Chapter 4 - Nightmare

Chapter 4.

'Does it matter where power comes from?'

'Mystics are hailed as heroes, protectors of Haven and yet, they use the power of humanities enemies, the monsters. So does that also make them monsters?'

'Or am I asking myself the wrong question?'

'Does it only matter what I do with my powers and not where originated from?'

'No matter what question I ask myself I can only come up with one answer.'

'I am a monster.'

'My power will originate from the corpse of my mother and a monster.'

'My goal is to kill all the enemies of my mother which will definitely be gruesome and I might even become a criminal.'

'Then I plan to exterminate all the monsters outside Haven.'

'Despite them being monster I can't help, but ask myself.'

'Do they have families?'

'Is the a reason why they attack us?'

'Maybe some of them never killed a person, but I will kill them just because of their species.'

'Would that be considered as killing the innocent?'

'I don't know.'

'Maybe it doesn't matter how others would view me as long as I h-'

"It's done Adonis." A familiar voice spoke making Adonis open his eyes.

In front of him was his father, Cyrus, dressed in a white lab coat wearing thick glasses.

"How do you feel?" Cyrus asked.

Adonis clenched his hand before standing up and jumping. He started to do a quick 1-minute stretch focusing on all parts of his body, but frowned at the end.

"I don't feel any different." Adonis replied.

"Well that makes sense you're only in the Initial Adaptation Stage." Cyrus muttered.

"What's that?" Adonis asked while grabbing his clothes and scarf since he was in his underwear.

"The Initial Adaptation Stage is the stage everyone who gets a Mystic Core starts at, I don't really no much about the rest of them though since that information is hard to get." Cyrus scratched his head.

"If that's so then why did you ask me how I felt?" Adonis asked.

"Well everyone's different and I don't have a Mystic core so I wouldn't know how it feels." Cyrus chuckled while briefly looking at the scar over Adonis' heart before it was covered by his shirt. "Then there also the case about you being infected by a inferno and then getting an Mystic Core coming from one. Although the core that a monster comes from doesn't really matter because of the artificial process I still had some worries, but it seemed like they were for nothing."

"Right." Adonis said. "About that father, how do you know how to implant a Mystic Core, and also all the information you told me about them earlier."

Cyrus froze and his expression went stiff, Adonis didn't see however, because his back was towards his father while he looked around the room.

"Your mother told me about it." Cyrus responded, but Adonis wasn't convinced.

"Although I was young I still remember mother's personality like the back of my hand. She would never bring information about work home since she used most of her time creating memoires with us, since she couldn't spent a lot of time with us because of work." Adonis said catching Cyrus in a lie.

The room was silent as Cyrus couldn't replied and Adonis was waiting for an answer, but eventually Adonis sighed while heading towards the door.

"You know what it's fine father you don't have to tell me. I know, just like mother, you have your own secrets. I going to go to sleep early today so I can visit the village tomorrow. I heard that the Haven Military will be visiting sometime in two months to recruit." Adonis waved with his back facing Cyrus.

"Son wait." Cyrus shouted making Adonis stop. "I can't tell you anything about this, but it's for your own good."

"Alright." Adonis responded

"Also check the floor board underneath your bed, it something your mother left for you incase she... fell during duty. I was waiting to give it to you after I gave you your core." Cyrus sighed.

"Thanks I'll go check it out now then." Adonis said going past the door a walking up the stairs.

Behind his scarf he was frowning at the fact that his father lied to him, but he decided to put his feelings aside and focus on the thing that his mother left for him upstairs.

'Hmm, I wasn't expecting this.' Adonis thought looking at the rectangular crate in front of him. After a few minutes of searching he found it hidden in a small compartment underneath his bed.

He tried opening it, but the crate wouldn't open no matter how hard he tried. There wasn't a lock on it either making Adonis confused on what he should do next.

"Should I break it?" He muttered before shaking his head. "No I don't knw what's inside and it would be bad if I broke anything."

Just as he was about to get up to ask his father for help, Adonis felt something vibrate on his finger. Looking at his hand he realize that his mother's ring was moving. Like it was trying to get off of his hand, and the red gen was dimly glowing. Adonis eyes moved from his hand and back to the crate examining it carefully.

"So, there is a lock and I guess this is the key." Adonis smirked as he took off the ring and brought it to the front of the crate. Once Adonis let go off the ring, it started floating before going towards the crate where it fit perfectly in a ring like hole.

"Interesting." Adonis eyes lit up after hearing a 'click' and the crate opening up.

When Adonis saw the contents within the crate he smiled. Taking the ring and putting it back on his finger he closed the crate and decided to leave it for tomorrow when he left.

Adonis turned out the candle and went to sleep shortly after.

-----

Black flames raged everywhere aiming to consume everything in it's path, but was stopped by walls of ice that manifested.

Hordes monster passed through the flames only to die instantly while others climbed the ten-meter tall ice walls.

"Everyone Run!" A valiant silver haired woman shouted as she fought three abyssal black humanoid creatures with a sword in one hand and a spear in the other. At the same time she was conjuring ice walls to protect civilians who were almost pounces on by other monsters. The woman and monsters aura's felt like Gods.

Like him, most people could only stand frozen, paralyzed in fear while others ran for their lives.

Not everyone was saved as some of the luckier ones died in one attack from the monsters. Others not so much as they were tortured, watched their family die, betrayed by people they knew, or raped by some of the lustful monsters who didn't discriminate against gender.

Despite everything happening right now, he knew that no one should be alive right now. The clash from the woman and three creatures should have wiped everything out, but every time a shockwave was created, it was somehow contained in a three-meter radius. Like the shockwaves from the attacks were stuck in that space.

'Run' That's all that replayed in his mind, yet he couldn't move. He wanted to run, or at least doing something, but he couldn't.

His pants were already soiled and he knew the moment he opened his mouth vomit would come out from seeing all the gore, yet his body was like a statue. As for the monsters they passed him like he didn't exist, simple irrelevant to their eyes.

Shriekkkkkkkkkk.

One of the black monsters screamed in pain as the left side of it's body had been cut off by the woman's sword. Even though the monster was missing half of it's face and body, all the way to it's thigh it was still alive.

"Adonis run!" The woman shouted with sweat dripping down her face. She seemed to be at her limit as the amounts of ice walls conjured lessened and more people died.

Adonis who looked around could only see fear, anger, and devastation, but when he looked at his mother who was trying her hardest he could see something else. Loneliness. She was battling, protecting, and surviving alone.

'You have to help her!' A voice inside his head said and he moved.

Soon the secrecy change. Adonis felt warm and lighter as burden had been lifted of his chest. In front of him was his mother, Freya, dressed in her battle armor with a katana in her right hand and a spear in her left.

Adonis looked down away from his mother and saw on his chest a large vertical gash that was so deep he could see his organs and even his heart. His heart wasn't red, but pure black just like the skin of the inferno's.

At his feet the tip of his mother's white spear dripped with blood, his blood.

"Wake up, Adonis." Adonis looked up as he heard her sweat voice.

"Ha... ha... ha... haaa." Adonis panted as he suddenly woke up on his bed. 'It was just a nightmare.' He thought and sighed.

His body was covered in sweat making his clothes stick to his body outlining his chiseled muscles, but also making his white shirt see-through.

"It felt, just like back then. Well except for the last part." Adonis muttered while placing his hand over his heart. He felt it beat like normally making him sigh with relief. "Maybe it was a side affect of having mom and the inferno's core implanted inside me."

"Oh well, I just tell dad about it later." Adonis said while looking outside the window. It was still dark outside and when he looked at the clock he saw that it was only half-past 2. He went back to sleep fortunately not receiving another nightmare.
