Chapter 5 - Adonis

Chapter 5.

A few hours later Adonis woke up to a familiar aroma. He jumped out of bed, took a shower, and put on the clothes he found yesterday in the crate before grabbing the metal crate and heading downstairs.

The aroma grew stronger each step downstairs he took, making his mouth salivate. When reached downstairs he saw the dinning table was full of breakfast. Pancakes, eggs, bacon, sausages, etc.

Cyrus went off with cooking today, but what confused Adonis was that his father was no where in sight.

"Father." He called out while walking to the table, but was met with silence. He guessed that his father was in the secret basement downstairs, but that changed as he saw the letter in the middle of the table.

===================

Donnie I will be going away for a while. I not sure exactly how long it will take before I return, but it will at least be three years. Sorry to tell you this on such a short notice, but I feel like I will become a burden for you just like I was for your mother. You don't have to worry about me though, despite how weak I may be I also have my strengths to allow me to survive. So continue on with your mission and don't hold back. I'll be waiting to hear stories when I return.

From Father

P.S. Don't try to look for me because you won't find me.

===================

Adonis' gaze harden as he read the letter. He read it over one more time just to make sure what he saw was true. After that he said nothing. He placed the crate down before walking over to the fireplace and throwing the letter into the fire.

He watched as the paper turned to ashes with an impassive face, but a single tear fell from his right eye. At that moment Adonis felt like the last family he had, abandoned him.

Why did he leave now?

Why didn't he wait until Adonis left first before leaving?

Nothing about his letter made sense.

The rest of his morning was silent, after eating all the breakfast his father prepared he did a light excise before turning off all the lights in the house and covering everything with blankets. No one would be in here for a long time and it would suck if he had to clean up all the dust.

'Well that's one letter down one more to go.' Adonis thought as he opened up the crate again and took the letter that was on top of the other items.

Unlike his father, his mother had left his something useful in the letter. There were instructions of a technique that Adonis could use to access the hidden powers of his Mystic Core. While she also explained much more about the core and details he didn't know about before.

Like his father said before he was in something called the Initial Adaptation Stage. This was the first stage of the Adaptation Rank and he wouldn't gain access to mana until he reached the next stage.

In order to reach the next stage which was the Basic Adaption Stage he needed to train. There were three types of training the body, the mind, and the spirit or inner world.

Adonis also realized how lucky he was to get his X-Grade core. Not only was it the best and most unique in the world, but it also saved him from being a common foot-solider. If he enlisted without a core, he would get one from the military, but the core he would get would depend on his talent, background, and first impression.

Being a commoner, even with Adonis' amazing talent he would be lucky if he got a C-Grade core unless someone sponsored him. While most commoners would only get E and F grade cores. Although you could always buy a higher grade core and switch it, that would cost a fortune.

Anyways back to training, in order to start training Adonis would have to practice a mana technique to increase his sensitivity to mana, once it was high enough he would then be able to reach the Basic Stage where he could start training his Body, Mind, or Spirt.

Those who reached a high enough level on their Body training were Warriors. The Mind training was for Mages and the Spirit training was for Sorcerers. The difference between the three was that a warrior would have enhanced physical abilities. A mage can make the surrounding mana do their bidding and a Sorcerer could use their spirit to affect reality.

Adonis was given clear instructions from his mother to train all three paths. Although he would be slower compared to his peers he would be stronger. Along with this she gave him a book which had training techniques for each path.

The last thing that Adonis learned was that he would gain an element. Well two elements, despite not being born with the ability to use mana, mana still affected humans. Everyone had an innate element they had an affinity with which was mostly dependent on the environment they grew up in and their personality. Then the second element comes from the element the owner of the monster core had before the user gained it.

It wasn't always perfect causing most people to only have one element their own, but there were some case where people had more than one sometimes even three.

"Seeing how I grew up in the winter domain and cold never affect me much maybe my element will have something to do with that," Adonis muttered. "But then there is also my core which is a combination of mothers and an Inferno, will I gain their powers too?"

Adonis put those thoughts to the side for now. The answers would all come in time after he join the military. For now he had something else to do.

Opening up the crate again he took out three items. One was black ring with golden inscriptions, the other was black gloves, and the last was red sheath sword.

He put the letter back inside deciding to start practicing once he reached the village before closing the case. He tapped the black ring on the case making it disappear. Adonis smiled seeing the crate being stored in the spatial ring. He put the ring on before covering it by putting the gloves over his finger.

Although people couldn't tell the differences between a spatial ring and a normal one, Adonis didn't want any question popping up. After all how could a commoner get something that only the upper nobility had.

After that he put his travel bag over his shoulders, which had items like food, money, and extra clothes before examining his sword.

The handle was dominantly red having a little bit of black and the scabbard was the same. Unsheathing the sword the one edge blade was entirely pitch black. The narrow blade was straight until the edge where it smoothly and sharply curved.

"Hmm, I'll call you Crimson Abyss." Adonis said before sheathing the sword and strapping it to his waist.

He turned around and took one last look at the inside of his house. Memories of his younger self resurfaced. Him running around the table while his mother chased him. Him and his father arm wrestling. His mother's attempt at making making chicken soup, but ended up making something which was a mix of purple and green.

"I'll miss you," Adonis said before walking out the door not knowing when the next time he would visit this house again. Maybe in the future if he has a family he'll visit here again with them.

Outside, the sun was shining high up in the sky. There was a cold breeze and no grey clouds in sight. It was a nice day.

Adonis looked towards the bottom of the tree where he saw his mothers grave, but also in front of it a familiar beautiful flowers. The flower was red, but it wasn't a rose.

"Red Adonis flowers, mothers favorite." Adonis mutter while picking up one of the flowers.

His mother used to tell him about the flower which she found in the spring domain. She said that she fell in love with it at first sight and named him after it.

"The flower symbolizes beauty, sorrowful memories, and remembrance, but also determination." Adonis said.

'Sometimes the most beautiful things have the most pain hidden inside them. Sometimes they might feel like giving up, but when that happens they need to do is remember all good things and positive memories in their life and use that as determination to strive forward.'

Freya's words resounded in Adonis' mind making him slightly smile. "It's almost as if she knew what was going to happen to me." He chuckled.

Putting the flower back down Adonis looked at the grave and mental promise that he wouldn't give up. He would make sure to avenge her, survive, and then return with a family that he would one day create.
