The class was its normal low whisper. I clapped my hands, getting the students attention. "As you know many of you have gotten a group or individual project in your other classes. Well my class is no different!"
The small amount of hope that some students had died. Ruby seemed to react the most. I could understand why, leader of her team, feelings of being not worthy, and the tension she feels due to the recent events.
I gave the class a broad smile, "Velvet will pass out your assignments. Some of you will have it harder than others. Some will have it easier, for those who don't know their semblances you will have two projects."
Jaune seemed to relax, he had unlocked his semblance, he just didn't understand it. The other students who lacked a semblance though seemed to lower their heads. I could see one even tear up. It seemed some of the other classes might have weighed on them.
"Don't be too worried if you lack a semblance. One project is about how to apply a semblance. You will have a explanation of a semblance and your job is to make a creative use for it." The semblance was my own, I wanted to see what other people would come up with for it. Maybe use their ideas...
I continued with a smile, "The second is just some exercises to see if you unlock your semblance. If those fail." I let my words lingered before smiling, "You will be pushed off a cliff and other more extreme measures under Ms. Goodwitch's observation."
The kid who was crying slammed his head against the desk. While others like Cardin seemed relaxed. He still believed he had the method to unlock his semblance. When he came to me it would come full circle. For now however I wanted to work on some of the students.
My activities with Glynda made me want to taste them. I was holding back though, I couldn't just do what I did in my old life. Semblances, the Grim, and some other more worrying things prevent me from going to the extreme, at least for now.
I took a step back, "If you have questions, talk to me after class. The rest of class you can think about what you might need to do for your projects."
Once I sat back down at my desk, all the students began whispering. I made eye contact with Weiss who's face was in a full scowl. Her assignment was entirely based on her summoning. I wanted to see how close her semblance could mimic mine. However Glynda wanted something else from Weiss.
I would need some research on her family. I pulled up my scroll and started digging. It didn't take long to find her sister and her military service. Her life was well documented and she was likely the role model Weiss aspired to be. Interesting, but meaningless. The mother of Weiss was a little more interesting. She had served once in the Draconis expedition. So she must have been a huntress or worked for the Atlas military at one point.
Now however the woman just seemed to be a hot drunk milf. Her husband seemed to slander her as a drunken whore. Though that wasn't how he described her. He seemed to be the haughty type that I tended to avoid or used and threw away in my old life.
Weiss's grandfather was a little more interesting. He set up the Schnee dust company and was a relatively good man other than his treatment of Faunus. He never exploited them as bad as his son-in-law did. However he never treated them like the human employees. I rubbed my chin in thought though. His semblance wasn't Glyphs.
A hereditary semblance... I looked up Weiss's brother. Sure enough the kids semblance was not glyphs. Could it be only passed down through the women of the Schnee family? I looked up Weiss's grandmother, but found nothing. So I looked up her great-grandfather. Sure enough he existed, but he seemed extra-ordinary. His wife shared his averageness. In fact they were both Dust Miners of a company later bought by the Schnee Dust company.
I looked back at Weiss and she was hard at work. I needed more information that I couldn't get from the web. It was clearly Weiss's grandmother that first gained the glyph semblance. However she didn't seem to exist in normal records. I would need to question Weiss about this.
I scanned the class again, my eyes drifting to Pyrrha. She had essentially mastered her Semblance. Her skill was also well documented to the school, it was as if she was being prepared for something. The documentation of her skills was almost all positive. I had looked at it before, but looking again made me roll my eyes.
Glynda didn't give me any requirements for expanding her abilities. Teaching her to be greater! To put it simply, they expected nothing. It irked me, it annoyed me in a way I never felt before. I did have a method to increase Pyrrha's strength though.
Remnant was rather advance, but I came from a life where beings traveled the stars. I wasn't an engineer, but I used enough magnetic weapons to have an intimate understanding of them. I expected Pyrrha to come to me first after class. However I raised an eyebrow when Nora Valkyrie lingered.
When other students left I looked to her, "Yes, Nora?"
She gave a smile, "So you remember me after all, Mr. Mars!"
I gave her a laugh, "How could I forget my brief travel companions. If you and Ren hadn't helped me travel to Beacon I might have gotten lost."
She blushed slightly and gave a laugh of her own. "Well, anyway... I uh..."
I pushed forward for her. "You wish to talk about your project?"
Nora nodded, "Yes, you see, my semblance only works if I get a shock. How am I supposed to find and raise my capacity?"
That was one of Glynda's requirement for Nora. I nodded, "Some students will have materials acquired for them if necessary. In your case something is being made. So don't worry too much about it."
Nora blinked, "Really? Something is being made for me?"
I had long since thought about Nora's abilities. "To improve your semblance, you simply need new equipment Nora. A semblance like yours is simple, more electricity, the stronger you get. The only new application you can preform with it is to use the electricity."
Nora seemed to be fired up by the thought of using the electricity. "That would be so cool! Like shooting lightning from my eyes!"
I looked at her with confusion. Where did it evolve to that? "More like stunning enemies with lightning as you clobber them with super strength. Something like Thor actually..."
She looked at me weirdly, "Thor? Who is that? A famous huntsman?"
I shook my head, "No just a character from a story. He used lightning and a hammer. Anyway, I will have your new equipment ready soon." I waved her away, "Don't worry to much and head to your lunch."
She nodded, "Understood! See ya later, Sir."
She marched out of the classroom leaving me to wait for the next student. If Pyrrha doesn't show up I will find her. My guess is she will be trying to help others with their projects.
