I went onto autopilot as I arrived at the auditorium. I had already been called by Glynda and given the directions of what I was supposed to do. I stood on the backside of the stage with the teachers. The students were given a brief speech about where they would be staying for the night, and what would be done tomorrow.
It didn't even take more then 20 minutes. Why did all the teachers even gather here in the first place? An old man patted me on the back, "So you are Glynda's new assistant teacher?"
"Eh, yeah. I'm Mars by the way."
"Ha! I know that much, I am Professor Port for introductions sake."
I shook his hand and the man standing next to him put out his hand as well. "I am Professor Oobleck, but do you mind me asking what made you want to work here Mars?"
"Ah, To give a summary, after discovering my semblance could do way more than I thought it could. I thought it would be a good idea to help future huntsman also achieve greater control and understanding of their own semblances."
"How noble! Though I must say starting as an assistant teacher under Ms. Goodwitch will be a challenging task."
I raised an eyebrow, "How so..." I had my guess why obviously, I wanted to know his reasoning though.
Port spoke first, "Well if you met her you may know she is a tad strict. Its great for the students..."
"But?"
"She tends to treat everyone with the same level of discipline."
Oobleck cut in adding to Port's example. "She also tends to be busy for most of the day and I suspect you are going to have a fair bit of work."
An older lady joined the conversation. "At least she doesn't go on lectures about the good times with the students."
Both men winced at the old lady's words. It seemed they had a tendency to ramble. Would be good for info gathering maybe depending on how tight lipped they were. The old lady looked at me and nodded. "I am Gaz, I work as the historian."
She leaned in close whispering, "*You may want to avoid Sir Hendrick. He is the fellow in the yellow coat.*"
I raised an eyebrow and the two men nodded with Gaz's statement. "Why?"
"He tends to be a little righteous about certain cultures."
I mimicked an Oh of understanding. The guy didn't like Faunus, I suppose when teaching warriors it didn't matter about people's personal opinions. I had faced plenty of discrimination in my old life for that same fact. It was always looked down upon, but in the end work is still work.
"What are the names of the other teachers? If you could tell me."
Gaz nodded, "Well there is Madam Malt, she is in the black. She's a noble from Cotova. You have Dean he is in the Denim, he has a truly terrible fashion taste. Then finally there is Mica he is the giant. Oh and technically there is another assistant, but he mostly does personal work for Ozpin outside the Academy. His name is Qrow and let's just say you'll know him if you see him."
I nodded along giving almost faux interest. I mean I didn't really care about the color commentary about Dean's fashion sense or how tall Mica was. However my interest was peaked with the note about Malt being a noble from Cotova. That place wasn't in my second hand memories I would need to look it up.
Not to mention Qrow again. Maybe I could ask Glynda about it some round about way. She likely wouldn't say much, but with the note You know him when you see him and the strictness of Glynda. Perhaps info could be gotten because Qrow doesn't have the same level of discipline of Glynda.
"Well Thanks for talking to me. I have to admit I was slightly nervous about meeting the teachers. You never know with people."
The two men had smiles of no problem and Gaz gave a grandmotherly look of sorrow. It seemed I got some pity from her do to me being a Faunus. There was a story there and I could dig it up later. For now I could play the role of the slightly distrusting individual. Then give a slow warming up to them.
Port stretched out, "Well I suppose we should be heading out to our rooms. Mars do you know where the Teacher's Dorms are?"
I nodded, "Yea Glynda gave me a map of the Academy and the instructions to get to where i'll be staying."
"Well then Righto! I'll be heading off." Oobleck nodded, "I will be as well, I am beginning to run out of caffeine and i am much too tired to do much else."
I turned to Gaz and she spoke, "I can join you walking to your new place. After all I assume you have questions?"
"Thank you so much Gaz. I do have questions about some things."
I would ask her about the student classes and how the schedules are planned out. Knowing when I could do things was important.
