As I noticed the bright light fading away behind my closed eyelids, I slowly opened them back up.
A man was standing in front of me, about 10 feet away.
"Welcome Prince Maruma." he said with a bow.
The man could not be described as anything other than majestic. He had a feminine face, but with subtle masculine features that gave away his gender. He had long light blue hair that went down to the middle of his back, light brown eyes, and no facial hair. He wore the traditional teachers outfit of the Royal Academy that fit snugly to his skinny frame.
I looked around myself to check my surroundings before responding.
I stood in a small classroom that had around 15 desks for students to sit in, a desk for the teacher up at the front, and a holo board on the wall at the front. The room was made of white bricks, but had white marble floors and a tiled ceiling.
"How do you know who I am?" I asked.
The man showed a little bit of shock before answering.
"Your father didn't tell you who I am?"
"No." I responded with a puzzled tone.
"Interesting, well I guess I should introduce myself." He said.
"My name is Professor Reemar, and I am a teacher from the Secret Slime Society, better known as the SSS."
It was my turn to be shocked.
I now remembered that my dad did say something about the SSS at breakfast this morning, but didn't explain anything about it.
Knowing that it stood for "Secret Slime Society" is what really shocked me. The implications of this name were grand.
"What is the Secret Slime Society?" I asked.
"Sigh. It seems your father didn't want you to know. This is normal with most families, so I don't blame him."
I frowned a little bit, but didn't interrupt Professor Reemar.
"Sit down, as this explanation might get long."
I did as he said and took up a seat in the first row, while he continued to stand at the front of the classroom.
"As I hope you already know, we slimes are born when a cluster of mana becomes compressed and forms a body and then a consciousness.
What you may not know is that because of this, slimes are very valuable to other people. We have a large concentration of mana within our bodies, meaning our bodies are great when used to create a mana core through absorbing us.
This obviously became a problem in the beginning stages of our species, as we didn't want to die by absorption, but other races wanted an easier way to create mana cores.
This caused many slimes to come together to fight alongside each other, as at the time we were weak. We didn't have the growth period that everyone else in this universe seemed to have, so we weren't able to use our powers to fight them off. However, when we banded together, we were finally able to learn more about ourselves and our powers. This was the star of the Secret Slime Society.
We have since stopped being hunted so much, as the SSS promises retaliation towards anyone who is caught absorbing a slime. We try to stay in the shadows as much as possible, because it isn't necessarily common knowledge anymore about slime's properties.
Our leaders figured if the general population is ignorant about us, it would stop the absorbing crisis, which it did.
I myself am obviously a slime as well. I am one of the thousands of mentors within our society.
My job is to find other slimes and teach them about their powers, alongside other things.
You are already registered into the society because of your father, but I will get a card delivered to you and help you with getting into the network today after class.
Do you have any questions?"
I paused for a second to think.
"Nope, I don't" I eventually said.
"Good, because I need to give you the standard student orientation before we really start class."
"Where is everyone else?" I asked.
"The Elementalist class is extremely rare and can only be obtained from either being born with it or through a class quest, so it's normal that you are the only one in the class."
I nodded my head in understanding.
"Okay, first things first, let's go over your schedule.
You will have my class from 9:00 am to 12:00 pm everyday, 12:00 pm to 1:00 pm is lunch, 1:00 pm to 3:00 pm is general education class, then from 3:00 pm to 5:00 pm is combat class.
Combat and general education will be with other students, but my class will be just you and me.
After 5:00 pm is free time, and 11:00 pm is curfew.
I will lead you to the dorms at the end of the day today, so don't worry about that.
Any questions?"
"No, sir."
"Alright then. Let's get started with the lesson for today.
I understand there is not much mana on your planet yet since you do not have a planetary core. It is honestly a miracle that enough mana was able to clump up and give birth to you, but I digress.
Stand up, and we will begin your training."
"Yes, sir."
I stood up as Professor Reemar instructed me to do.
He brought his hand up and snapped his fingers.
I began to understand that a snapping of the fingers usually meant a scenery change or something of that nature was imminent, so I closed my eyes in anticipation.
I was correct to assume so, and my preemptive measures saved my eyes from being burned once again by the bright light.
I opened them again a second or two later to see we were now standing outside, or at least what seemed like it.
We currently stood in an area of just hard rocks with no grass, but there was a river nearby that had grass around it, and in the distance were mountains surrounding what looked like a volcano.
"This is the training space your planet has built for elementalists." Reemar said.
