It's been a couple of months since that night I spent on the porch with Amy, it's been relatively the same but Amy seemed distracted with something. I didn't understand why she was being distant but then I had an idea, "Why don't I invite her and everyone to a party for Halloween party, customs and treats would be a great idea for that too." I said out loud and James heard it and offered to help me out if I wanted to close the Cafe early on Friday. I saw it was Thursday and Halloween was this Friday, "Maybe we can close it for the holiday weekend and just invite people to the ranch for the party?" I suggested it to James and he agreed that might be a great idea, so we closed the Cafe around noon and I went to get the party stuff.
I called my dad and random people I thought I could use to make this party huge, I even invited a couple of people I knew who sang to play at the party. Then I remembered I had Kenny's number from that concert I was at over the summer. I texted, "Hey we are having a Halloween party at my parent's ranch hoping you'd come and enjoy a night out over here." I messaged him the detail and I got a thumbs up from his reply, I then went home after ordering everything I needed for tomorrow. when I was about to take my shower I had forgotten to invite Amy the one person I wanted there for sure.
I called her and she didn't answer so I left a message for her, "Hey it's Jacob, I'm having a party for Halloween tomorrow I'd love it if you'd come and enjoy the festivities with me. We are all dressing up somewhat so keep that in mind too, have a goodnight, Amy." I hung up the phone and then I went to bed, while I slept that night I didn't have a dream. It was just blank then my alarm for noon rang out to me and I woke up in a sweat. I jumped up and headed to the bathroom to get a shower, I took one a bit too long and the hot water turned cold. Mom was mad since she was about to do some laundry, I apologized then I went out to where dad was setting up for the party.
We had this firepit area about forty yards from the ranch house, there was a small building that kept a few things like wood and a riding lawnmower. Dad turned that whole area into a part spot like no other, he had tables in neat spots and a fire waiting to be lit when the sun goes down. I saw he needed the grill yet and a couple of benches yet. I was about to offer to help when James and his sister Mary came down the driveway. They jumped right in and help my Dad set up the grill area and extra things.
I saw the medium-sized flatbed trailer and thought it would make a good spot for a small stage. I had Dad put it about twenty yards from the pit and I grabbed a couple of speakers I had ordered, I placed them on either side then hooked everything up. "Son, do you have a band or something coming to the party?" Dad asked me and I smiled, "That and a surprise if they make it here on time, we just have to see when the music starts." Dad looked at me confused as if I was up to no good, the smile I gave him didn't help.
After about three hours of setting up the sun was directly above and I saw the rest of the order I placed the day before arrived. I had Mary and James bring the food into the house and dad put ice in the giant-sized tea jugs. I started to make all the food for the party and the siblings brought the food out as the guests started to show up. I heard my brother and cousins outside wondering where I was. They came in to see me just getting done with the last of the food, "Hey you seem to be done now, and there's a guy here who said you invited him but he brought a friend."
I whipped my hands and I grabbed a couple of beers and my cigar, as I put the cigar in my mouth I saw it was Kenny and another famous country singer. I was Tim Mcgraw, the other guy, I was star-struck for a moment and I offered them a beer. Both of them took my offer and we went to the party which was hopping with the band I invited jammed on the stage. Tim and Kenny looked at each other and loved this small town party that was just screaming through the farmland. "You guys can go enjoy your time while I step inside the house for a moment.
I went upstairs and I put on my somewhat of a custom, dressed up like every other country music singer from the 90s. I had the tight black short sleeve shirt, tight blue jeans with a golden belt buckle, and a pair of black and gold snakeskin boots. Then I put on my cowboy straw hat that looked like Kenny's hat from his early albums. I came out and I grabbed a beer from the cooler when the music legends saw my custom. They both smiled then Kenny yelled, "Jacob go up there and sing a good party song for us!"
I hesitated then I saw Amy arrive at the party when the sun began to sink over the horizon. I walked up to the band and asked if they knew how to play, One of them Girls by Lee Brice? They shook their heads, yes and the music started, Then I began to sing it and the whole crowd chimed in with me. Amy was watching me then Kenny came up and we sang his song I go back when the tempo of the party was right. Everyone was getting tired and I could tell they were enjoying their time at the party. So when people were going to leave I cut the music for a moment to give a speech for the end of the party.
"Hello everyone," Everyone stopped and turned to the stage, "Thank you all for coming to my party, I wasn't sure if anyone was going to be here but we have about half the town here. How is everyone doing tonight?" I said to the crowd and everyone screamed with cheers towards the stage, it was almost deafening. "Wow, I've never heard that from a few hundred people before, that almost a volume in a stadium." Kenny said behind me laughing, "Well thank you all for this wonderful time and I hope all the drinks and food were decent, and for next year I hope to do this again. I also hope that Kenny and Tim here bring more friends since you've loved this so much." Everyone waited for me as I paused for a moment.
"With the last few months of me returning home after the sad passing of my Grandparents. They've been the healing hand of this town forever and not having them around really sucks. We can move past that and take their teachings and become the best nurturing town in the state of Wisconsin and possibly the world. Like them I want all of you to pay kindness forward as they have, now everyone enjoys your night." Dad lit the firepit and everyone who wanted to stay longer moved over to the pit.
The only ones that were left were my family, brother cousins dad, and mom, Amy stayed and so did Kenny and Tim for an hour. We sat around the fire sharing stories of the fun times like we always did. A couple of times we had the Counrty singers dying on the ground from laughter with the stories I had with my Brother and Cousins. Kenny was to my right and my brother was to my left when Kenny said after seeing Amy blushing when she looked at me. "Kid I see you have a beautiful woman over there, I can she love you pretty hard." I looked at him like he was crazy but when Bradley confirmed he had the same thought I could feel my heart race almost out of my chest.
You could see me blush from space even if it was daylight out, After that comment, everyone left the pit and it was just me and Amy. I sat next to her and we sat watching the fire for a while till it got too cold and she went to sleep on the couch. I went to my bed but I didn't sleep at all that night, having the thought of my best friend from childhood being more than that was strange.
