Chapter 12 - Winters coming

A month after I proposed to my future wife and lifelong friend I saw that Amy was selling her farm. I wouldn't say I liked that she was doing that so I asked her one day. "Amy why is it that you're selling your Grandpa's home, do you not want it anymore my love?" She looked at me weird when I said that and said, "I don't really want to sell it but I can't afford to keep it, the animals and that damn grain field is too much for me at the moment."

We were sitting in her or her Grandpa's house when I asked her that first question, she was across from me at the dinner table. This was when I asked my second question, "Would you be opposed to me buying this place or one to call our own. I mean I wouldn't want you to lose this place as well or I could even go buy a smaller ranch so.." She placed her finger on my lips and told me, "Don't try to fix everything, my dear."

I looked at her and I gently grabbed her face with my hand feeling the curves of her face. I could feel her blush when I said to her, "I'd do anything to see you smile and be happy, I'd conquer the whole world if that's what you wanted. I'm going to get a small ranch so we can live the way we want we don't have to keep this place if that's what you truly want." We talked for like an hour till we came up with a plan. I was to find a home for the two of us but room for a couple more, this was a strange option for the last part but what if we ended up having kids. That part made more sense the more I thought about that part.

I later went to the Cafe to get the shop ready for winter since it was just a month away, and it was never too early to be prepared. I went down to the basement and I insulated the pipes and adjusted the hot water to keep everything warm so nothing would freeze over. I then went up to see that James was doing some deep cleaning in the fridges. I coughed and scared him half to death, he fell to the ground and then started laughing. "Damn it, Jacob, don't do that to me I could have had a heart attack." He said to me and I just smiled at him, "Sorry I didn't see you there bud, I saw you cleaning right after I coughed." I said lying about not seeing him, I just wanted him to know I was there but ended up doing that to him.

He stopped cleaning and asked me, "what's on your mind sir, you seem to be distracted with something?" I sat down in a chair close to us and I had him sit right next to me as I told him everything. From me looking for my own home and what Amy wanted, though I didn't want her to lose the farm because she couldn't afford it. He brought up his cell phone and showed me a location that I might like, it wasn't that far from the Cafe and was pretty cheap for the amount of land it had.

I went after that to find the place and realized it was right behind the Cafe across the river. I saw the house and it was much like my parent's home with the way it was designed. I then saw the barn and saw it had a tractor, the land was nice and fertile too. "That's it I want this place, Amy can keep doing what she likes to do but make it her own, and being a half-mile from the Cafe is a bonus," I called the number on the for sale board and told the person on the other side that I wanted the house.

After a few days I bought the house and property, I took the key to the house and I gave it to Amy. She looked at the key and then at me with a surprised look on her face, "Did you really buy a house for us?" She asked me and I just smiled at her, I took her to the house and she looked it all over till she saw the barn with the Tractor in it. "I want you to keep doing what you love to do so we can restart smaller." She kissed my forehead then she took the key and went inside the house to see it still didn't have much into it.

For a couple of weeks after that, we moved all of our things into the house and Amy sold the farm for a huge profit from a company that wanted the land. Amy kept all the equipment and tractors but she only keep a few of the animals. I tended to my Cafe a few times a week so I had a lot of time to spend at my new home. I even made a couple of new recipes for chocolate drinks for the kids of the town. Then just like that, the snow came down and the wonderful little town began to slow down for the winter.

I set up the house so perfectly that I could sit in the living room and still see the land covered in the white stuff outside. It was much like a home now, I didn't have to hear my mother or dad making fun of me still living with them and I was with Amy full time now with no distractions. Tonight was our first month fully in the house and it was nice and warm. Amy and I sat in the living room watching her favorite movie when she looked at me. She then picked my arm up and we went into the bedroom, I closed the door right behind me.
