Chapter 14 - New Years

It's been a week and it was New Year's, and all I could think about was our plan for my wedding with Amy and the Cafe. It's been doing really well but nothing too overwhelming for my staff and me. I even experimented with a couple of new items for my regular customers, Amy came by when she was done at the store and tasted the new stuff with James and everyone. Jared and his Brother went by a lot and I asked him and Dom to be at the wedding with me. Both of them said yes and then I was told that there was a party for tonight at the city hall.

I headed home to change and I saw Amy coming home after her long day at her job, I told her about the party and she went to take a shower. I joined her and took up most of the hot water when she left to get dressed. I looked over at the closet and I walked to it, I pulled out a box marked X-mas, I opened it and saw it was my new suit I got from Amy. I took my Cafe clothes and I smiled like an idiot, "She might be mad that I'm changing into this gift from her for a party at city hall."

I was getting ready in the nice black suit that Amy got me for Christmas, It was for my Cafe when I worked but with nice sports, the jacket looked perfect as a formal suit. Amy wore a nice dress I got her on one of our outings. The dress was a deep dark red with black gemstones all over the dress. I brushed my hair back and trimmed a bit of my growing beard as Amy came up from behind me. She placed her hand on my face then she kissed me right on my lips then I said to her, "I love you so much Amy I can't imagine being with a different person than you."

We walked to the front door after that moment and we headed to the party, the snow was a bit slippery with it being extremely cold tonight. I saw Amy was about to fall and I caught her she pushed off of me and brushed her dress to make sure it still looked nice. We got into my truck and we went to city hall. When we got to the parking lot I saw everyone I knew was there, even my old friend Justin.

He was sitting at a table with his girlfriend drinking something hard, like a cocktail heavy on alcohol. I walked up to him and I sat in the empty seat next to him, "Justin it's been too long, why haven't you been by the Cafe I was inherited with?" I asked him and he smiled and told me, "I haven't been home for a while and I just got word about your grandparents, my brother. I'm sorry about that, I hope you've been ok?" I shrugged and showed him the ring on Amy's finger and he was surprised to see that. "I thought you both were just friends, I mean you guys were like siblings, not this close."

I looked at Amy and she blushed after Justin said, "Well, you see we've had feelings for each other it just took a push from my family to help express what I felt and feel about her." I kissed Amy on her cheek and we all talked till the dancing started. There I asked my future wife to dance with me while a nice slow song started to play. I brought Amy in close and we danced for what seemed like hours to the peacefully romantic song. I looked up for a moment and I saw everyone who had someone special dancing right next to us. This was a moment that will be one of my favorites forever, being with the one I want to be with is genuinely wonderful

.

Then the Mayor of the town came to the stage right behind us and gave out the yearly awards for businesses and people. One after another people were given their well-earned awards even my cousin Jared who ran a veterans charity. Then at the end of the awards was the town's citizen of the year award. They gave this to people who've done something or things to change the community for the better. I sat back in my chair expecting it to be someone I knew but the Mayor looked right at me "Mr. Jacob Hall, congrats on becoming the Citizen of the year."

I looked around and I felt a hand on my back, "Go on young man you've earned this one." Said one of my old teachers from high school, I got up and I walked to the stage still looking confused. When I shook the hand of the mayor I looked out to the crowd, "We award you this because of your cafe and the impact you had on everyone here in this little town. From throwing that Halloween party to being that heart for people who need someone to talk to. Everyone here voted for one person and that was you, my friend."

I looked over to the crowd again then I asked if I could say something to everyone, the Mayor waved his hand and let me to the microphone. "Hello everyone, I don't really have to say who I am since I received this award. I don't feel right holding this in my hands," I held up the little trophy while I looked at's gold paint. "I haven't been home for a year yet and all I've been doing since I arrived in spring is keeping that Cafe running for people who need a spot to chill and relax. I wonder what the next year will bring us with me still being here, here's to us." I said to the crowd as I rose a glass of wine into the air.

That night ended with a conversation with the Mayor on planning the spring fair and a bunch of events throughout the next year. After that, I went home with Amy and I fell asleep right as I hit the pillow even before I could change into my sleeping clothes. Amy saw me sound asleep and she giggled a bit then she took my shirt and pants off and throw them over our blanket and she crawled right next to me laying her head on my chest.
