Chapter 18 - A NORMAL DAY!

I began experimenting with abyssal gaze as my curiosity overcame the excitement of learning a new skill. As I was experimenting, I discovered that it was quite noticeable to other people because they might notice my eyes turning completely black and might freak out.

I therefore made an effort to narrow my focus in order to lessen the skill's effectiveness. During this process, I discovered that if I concentrate on something, it will become transparent while the surroundings will stay the same. Although it was a good thing that I could narrow the skill's application range, this also meant that the skill would become less practical.

My eyes did not completely go black when I reduced the skill's range; instead, only the red pupils did. This was a really positive development because it meant I would attract less attention rather than my entire eyes turning black when I used the skill without any limitations. And to be perfectly honest, it was quite horrifying to see my entire eyeball turn black.

After finishing the experiments, it was already 3 p.m.+, and I was starting to get hungry. I decided to leave my room and go eat at Jack's restaurant. I continued attempting to use abyssal gaze while moving there in order to observe the results of the movement. Walking was very difficult when you could see things that weren't there. I ran into a wall as I was moving because I was unable to distinguish it from the path I was walking. I realized as I was walking to the restaurant that I still needed to practice using the skill correctly.

When I got to the restaurant, Jack was busy serving some other patrons, so I just waited there in my usual seat. When Jack became available, he came and took my order, and we chatted while I ate. Jack mainly talked about Arinn and the absurd and adorable things she did. I was about to leave after eating when Jack reminded me to stop by his place for some cooking lessons today.

As I made my way back to my apartment, I tried to pay attention to various aspects of my body and my surroundings one at a time as I continued to advance in the use of abyssal gaze. When I turned around to head back to my apartment, I noticed a recognizable figure following me. "Are you just going to follow me?" I called out as soon as I felt the familiar presence. I heard some footsteps approaching me. I didn't turn around instead, I just kept awake, albeit a little more slowly as the footsteps approached. Right beside me, I noticed Aimee's adorable pouting face.

"How did you know who was following you?" As soon as she arrived, she questioned me. "Who knows?" I said in a low tone to annoy her a little. She frowned when she heard my response and asked, "So how was work?" rather than asking the original question again. When she asked me this, I kind of froze for a second, but I recomposed myself as I matched my pace with Aimee's while walking and answered, "It was nice, it didn't take that long." Although it was for her benefit, I felt bad for lying to her. If she knew that her boyfriend was killing people for a living, what would she think?

I asked her again, "How was your day?" "How are things at school?" She began describing her experiences at school and with her friends after I asked her this.

I really wish I could study at a school or some other institution. Since I couldn't attend any school and it was already too late for me to start attending, I knew it was a pointless thought. I had no reason to attend school because it would not help me in any way. It would be challenging to catch up to those who had spent their entire lives studying those topics. As a teenager, I had few options for how to live my life and make a living, so joining the army was the only way to improve my situation. Earning money would be difficult, even for a bounty hunter.

It would be difficult to make money, and what would happen if I lost my ability to go out and hunt people? Bounty hunting wasn't all that profitable in the long run.

We approached the front of my apartment as we were speaking. I opened the door to my apartment and entered, but I soon realised that Aimee wasn't doing the same. I asked her, "Are you not coming in?" when I turned around to see her standing in the hallway outside. When she heard this, she smiled and said, "I have homework to do. I'll come over when I'm finished, and you'll be having dinner at my house anyway. " She spoke with a smug expression as she finished. I sighed and said, "OK, come back when you are finished with your work,"

After saying goodbye to each other, I entered my living room, sat on the sofa, and set an alarm for six o'clock in the evening. At first, I intended to meditate while thinking about the skills I might acquire, but that thought quickly vanished when I realised that I would be meeting Aimee's mother later this evening. This worry had been nagging at the back of my mind, but I put it aside as I focused on the circulation of my mana throughout my body.
