Chapter 20 - Aimee's mom

We snuggled up next to each other on top of the water tank, feeling the warmth of one another. We conversed and cracked occasional small jokes. Being with someone was such a wonderful feeling. while I was holding her waist with one hand. I thought to myself as I enjoyed how comfortable being with her was because she appeared frail and her attractive slim figure and gentle touch made me want to protect her at all costs. Up until this point, I didn't care about anyone, but a girl I met a few days ago made me feel compelled to protect her at all costs, which I found odd.

I was lost in thought when Aimee's head shifted away from my chest and she asked, "Didn't your dad call you for cooking classes?" I was still staring at the dark sky with various space stations circling it. My body tensed up as soon as I heard what Aimee asked, and I stammered, "W-what time is it?" to her. She revealed the time by removing her holographic phone from her pocket. The time was 7:15 p.m. We both jumped to our feet in a panic when we realised the time and ran to Aimee's apartment. We were 15 minutes late, so I asked Aimee as we were moving.

"Our delay is 15 minutes. What do you suppose your mother will think of me? Do you think she might demand that we break up or something along those lines?" Aimee paused after hearing my question and responded, "She is very proactive for me and my sister, but I don't think she would force us to break up." When I heard this, I calmed down a little as we dashed towards Aimee's apartment.

Inside Aimee's Apartment

"Do you believe she'll be okay?" She's late. We ought to go look for her, maybe. " A female voice could be heard as she moved from one side of the room to the other. This is Emma Walls, Aimee's mother. "Emma, believe me, she will be fine. They are only 15 minutes late, and I believe the kid. She will be safe with him.

Jack said as he settled onto the couch. "How are you so sure, Jack? They are teenagers. You are aware of how young children today are,". A worried-sounding Emma said she cared deeply for her daughters and would stop at nothing to protect them. Jack stood from the couch and gave Emma a bear hug, saying, "Oh, come on, Emma, you know we were like this when we were young too."

When Emma heard that, she gave Jack a small chest-punch while blushing slightly and said, "That's different." Jack laughed when he heard what his wife had said and inquired, "How so?" Just as Emma was about to respond, they heard the door open and Amiee walk in, head in hand, with Steven behind her. Steven asked Jack awkwardly, "Ahm, did we intrude?" as soon as he realized what was going on.

Jack tried to hide his red face behind his dry cough and said, "Ahm, no need, you kids can come in." Aimee entered the room without making any noise. She was embarrassed in front of her parents, and I knew it. "Hello mam, my name is Steven," I said as I introduced myself to Aimee's mother. As soon as Aimee's mother accepted my handshake and spoke up, "Emma Walls" gave me a menacing look, as if her eyes could see right through my soul.

But soon after, a little angel appeared and rescued me from this awkward situation. "BIG BWRDER!" Arinn arrived in a hurry from the opposite direction. Her eyes were still partially closed, so it was obvious that she had just woken up from a nap. She jumped at me as soon as she was within my reach, and when I saw this, I quickly coughed her and muttered, "Why do you always jump on me like this?" Arinn heard my question and responded, "Because big bwrder will catch me," in a sleepy voice. After saying this, it was obvious that she had fallen asleep, so I allowed her to fall asleep on me. On the other hand, Emma was quite shocked by her baby's actions.

It was the first time her baby had behaved in front of her in this way. When she realised this, she turned to face Jack, who was simply grinning at Arinn's actions. As she watched her husband's expression, Emma wondered how much she had missed out on due to her job.

Then, after the incident with Arinn, we walked to the sofa. Soon we were conversing, or perhaps I should say Emma was questioning me, asking, "So what do you do for a living?" "I work as an investigator," I replied to Emma. I gave her the same lie I told Aimee as my response. "How do you conduct your investigations?" She asked me once more. "We investigate crimes, learn about the offenders, and alert the local law enforcement to their whereabouts." "I see, so how much do you earn from this job?" she asked. "If you can't make enough money, you can't have my daughter," she asked me with a look that suggested as much. When I heard this, I said, "The payment depends on the individual." in a serious voice.

"We're keeping an eye on things. We are compensated more for the information we give the authorities if the subject is a large terrorist or a man with a lot of money in his head." Emma remained silent as I wrapped up. She was reflecting on Stevens' remarks.

Emma realised that Steven was working a dangerous job to make money. "How about your parents, then? Perhaps they reside in a different city. " She asked me to change the subject from my job to something else.

When I heard this question, I gave her a sad smile and said, "My parents died during the Star Fall." After hearing my answer, everyone in the room went silent. It was well known that there were a lot of causalities during star fall. It was hard for Emma to continue the talk, so Jack took over and said, "Alright enough with the questions, kid, lets go. It's time for your cooking classes. " As soon as I heard this, I passed Arinn to Aimee and followed Jack to the kitchen.
