"Hah… I guess that's enough for today," Lin Chen stretched out his hands and leaned back in his chair before looking at his watch. It was already evening, and Lin Chen had to get home quickly.
[ Are you planning on heading to the medicine store? ]
The boar demon asked, and Lin Chen nodded his head as he walked out of the building. "Well, I was planning on buying the Adritus powder as well as some supplements along with it. What's the matter?"
[ You should focus on improving your mana core as well. After all, you are more proficient in the dark arts than cultivation. ]
"You're right, boar demon…" Lin Chen spoke with a serious expression on his face as he walked on the sidewalk. He knew that ever since he was reincarnated, he had been focused on cultivation rather than magic, which was what he was more familiar with. "However, since my dream in this world is to get accepted into the Grand Central University, I'm afraid I have to prioritize practicing cultivation for the first few weeks."
[ I understand. ]
The boar demon spoke with a calm voice. "And you can always help me out when it comes to dark magic, can't you?" Lin Chen teased the boar demon, who let out a loud annoying grunt as his response.
Lin Chen laughed externally, but he knew that he had to train a lot harder if he even wished to become an A-Tier Necromancer as he once was in his previous life.
He had achieved A-Tier, even though he had a C-Grade talent, which was unheard of in his previous world.
'Although it wasn't that special within the Secret Subjects Sector, though..' Lin Chen smiled bitterly, as he thought of his previous life. The Secret Subjects Sector, through its brutal training, experimentation on subjects, along with forming contracts with demon spirits, had created a small army of supersoldiers. When compared to those monsters, Lin Chen was only a weak beast.
'I'm far weaker than my second life counterpart. But I am also younger as well, which means that I have more time to learn and get stronger..' Lin Chen thought to himself as he walked.
[ By the way, boy… ]
The boar demon whispered in his mind, and Lin Chen responded. "I know, boar demon. I can feel it as well.." He spoke with a serious expression on his face.
He could feel it. The presence of someone who was tailing him. Even though Lin Chen was a young man in this life, he had been trained to become a supersoldier in his previous life. He knew how to detect whether or not he was being followed, and this skill wasn't something that was related to his magical abilities. No, this simply relied on instinct.
'They've been tailing me from the moment that I left the internet cafe. But who could be responsible for assigning a tail on me?' Lin Chen squinted his eyes as he tried to think of people whom he had antagonized. 'The only people whom I've antagonized after returning are Jia and her sidekicks. But would they really try to kill me simply because I embarrassed them in front of the whole class?'
Lin Chen shook his head. 'No, no. Let's not get ahead of ourselves. We have no idea whether or not this person wants to kill me. For all I know, he could simply be following me with the intent of gathering some intel. And it's not certain that it's the girls who are responsible for this move.'
[ Boy, stop overthinking. You won't find any answers anyways. ]
"You're right," Lin Chen replied. "So, what do you propose?"
[ From what I can tell, there's a few more people who are following you, although I don't know if they're all working together or not. ]
"How many?" Lin Chen could feel that there were more than one tail, but he didn't know the exact number.
[ Six, from what I can tell. ]
The boar demon replied. Lin Chen bit his lips and thought for a few seconds before asking, "Do you think that I can take them?"
[ From the looks of it, five of them are just normal thugs, so you'll probably be able to beat them on your own. But the last one…]
"Is he going to be a problem?" Lin Chen was curious.
[ He might be a level higher than you when it comes to cultivation. It might be tricky for you to beat himI your current state. ]
'Intermediate realm cultivator?' Lin Chen clicked this tongue. This would be troublesome, he thought to himself. Cultivators in the intermediate realm weren't exactly strong. In fact, they were weaker than average when you compare them to other cultivators who were already adults. But to Lin Chen, who was still in the initial realm, fighting an intermediate would be troublesome.
'Screw it!' Lin Chen said to himself before turning his left and entering a small alleyway.
[ Are you sure about this? You're still weak. ]
The boar demon expressed its concerns. "I know. But I don't like acting cowardly either." Lin Chen gritted his teeth as he stopped walking. He then turned around only to find a man wearing all black standing a few feet away from him.
"What do you want?" Lin Chen asked the man with an annoyed expression on his face.
"You had noticed us. Impressive." The man spoke with an indifferent tone before snapping his fingers, and all of a sudden, five other men appeared instantly, surrounding him. "My client considers you an eyesore, and wants you to be taught a lesson. So, here I am. That is all."
"I don't remember asking for a tutor, though…" Lin Chen clenched his fists as he answered, and the man in black chuckled in response before rubbing his white beard, and continued, "You're funny. I like that. But a job is a job, and you're going to be taught a lesson, whether you like it or not."
"Are you going to kill me? Lin Chen asked, and a smile appeared on the man's face before replying. "Oh, no, no, no… I was simply assigned to teach you a lesson. Not to take care of you."
"Oh! Well, that's too bad, I guess.." Lin Chen replied with a cold expression as he cracked his shoulder blades. "Because I definitely am planning on killing you!"
