Chapter 17 - Newbie

Lin Chen began the process by waving his arm over the man in black's face as a purple circle with mysterious runic alphabets written all over it appeared above the corpse's forehead.

[ Do you want my help? ]

"Just a little.." Lin Chen nodded. "We don't have to rush with the process like last time. Let's take it slow."

[ Alright, I got it. ]

The boar demon replied, and as soon as he did so, powerful waves of demonic energy began rushing into Lin Chen's body, and his pupils began to expand until his eye turned completely black.

Lin Chen began to mutter softly under his breath, and as he did so, his surroundings began to warp and distort, even changing its shape and colour as though they had somehow been teleported into a dream world.

Whoosh!

The purple circle began expanding in size as it started to glow with a faint white light, and small purple beams began to shoot out from inside of it in a chaotic manner.

Swoosh!

As Li Chen continued to chant mantras, a powerful gust of wind began enveloping him and the corpse in front of him, and he began to levitate in the air. As this was happening, another purple circle with runic symbols appeared below the dead body, lining up perfectly with Lin Chen's hand which was positioned right above the corpse's body.

Whoosh!

The gust of wind continued to get more and more powerful, and as Lin Chen continued to chant incoherent mantras loudly, the two purple circles began to move closer and closer onto the man in black's dead body, eventually coming into contact with it.

WHOOM!

A loud booming sound echoed throughout the surroundings as the two circles began assimilating into the body, which began to glow with a faint purple light, and just a second later, a dark light beam shot down from the sky and collided with the dead body, as the surroundings turned to white.

"Hah…" Lin Chen let out a long sigh as his gaze then shifted to the corpse that was lying right next to his feet. His eyes had changed back to looking normal and the surroundings had retained their original state, no longer possessing the dream-like appearance.

[ How did you like returning to the basics of necromancy? Starting to feel like a newbie once again? ]

The boar demon spirit asked with a playful tone, and Lin Chen shook his head and let out a short chuckle before leaning back and stretching out both his arms. "I guess I really am a newbie now. I just can't believe it… It's been so long since I've actually had to chant a spell." Lin Chen let out a yawn and wiped the drool off his mouth before continuing, "It is a lot more tiring than I remember."

[ Of course. I may have helped you last time by lending you my powers, but this time, you had to rely on your poor abilities in order to resurrect this corpse. Obviously, you couldn't handle the high ranking spells on your own. You may have been an A-Tier Necromancer in your previous life, but you're still an E-Tier in this world. So you better get used to chanting a lot more, newbie! ]

The boar demon roared loudly, and his voice began echoing in Lin Chen's mind, making him irritated. "Alright, alright! I got it! Jeez.." He said as he pressed his hands against his forehead. "Why do you always have to yell so loudly.."

[ What did you say, punk? ]

The boar demon roared once again, and Lin Chen shook his head. "Nothing, nothing!"

His gaze then shifted over to the corpse on the ground, and he raised his eyebrows.

[ You have to verbally give orders, punk! You're a newbie, remember? ]

The boar demon reminded him once again, and Lin Chen slapped himself on the forehead as he realized his mistake. "Right, right! Got it. My mistake."

Lin Chen then turned to look at the corpse again and whispered, "Arise."

Swoosh!

The room suddenly became a lot colder as he spoke, and the man in black's dead body began to tremble slightly. Lin Chen watched with calm eyes as the corpse that was lying right next to his feet suddenly got up from the floor as though it had just woken up from sleep.

Swoosh!

The corpse turned to face Lin Chen as it slowly opened its eyes, revealing a golden coloured pupil.

"Bow." Lin Chen ordered the undead, and it immediately listened to him, doing a short and graceful now in front of Lin Chen, who nodded his head as though he was a judge in a reality show.

[ Does he know how to talk? ]

"Yes. I did use the Expolinum Advanced spell, so he does possess the ability to reply verbally," Lin Chen nodded his head and then snapped his fingers at the undead. "What's your real name?"

"G-Gerald… Wil- Wil- Wilson…" The undead spoke with a stutter, clearly having trouble forming words, and Lin Chen coughed before explaining, "Ehem! Well, I am still a newbie when it comes to the dark arts, so this is the best spell that I could use."

[ … I'm not mad, I'm just disappointed. ]

"Hey! He can talk, alright! He just said his name. Gerald Wilson!" Lin Chen spoke with an expression of annoyance on his face as he placed his hand on Gerald's shoulder. He then looked at the undead and asked, "Oh, yeah! Forgot to ask, but who was the one who asked you to teach me a lesson?"

"Qin Xiao." The undead, Gerald Wilson, responded with a monotone voice, and Lin Chen's eyes widened for a second before turning cold. "... I see. So it was that bastard who's behind this."

[ Qin Xiao. If I remember correctly, he's a model who's working in the same modelling agency as your girlfriend, right? Her senior? ]

"Ex-girlfriend." Lin Chen clarified. "And yes. That's the guy. He's the one who sent these goons to beat me up."

[ So, what do you plan on doing? ]

Boar demon sounded curious. And also a little bit excited. A sinister smile formed on Lin Chen's face as he whispered, "What else? Of course, since he decided to teach us a lesson, it's only fair that we returned the favor!"
