A charity event is an activity I'm not particularly eager to attend.
Not that I hated anything about it. But it was one of the many things my parents enjoyed doing.
Later, I came to understand why giving to charities was a must. Being a mafia or an assassin didn't make one any different from the other.
Although the titles don't mean the same and how they work or their goals, both parties still kill mercilessly.
So, I saw no use in seeking justice like Margaux Cortez.
I remember her story from my mother. She retold significant bits about who she was and what she had done.
It was unfortunate that she didn't get to live and see the difference she had made.
The people she left behind revered her and held her memory dear.
I wish she had been reunited with her loved ones.
The wait for her lover might have taken longer, but that romance part was what I enjoyed the most.
Those closest to them said the man never loved any other woman after her. He had died peacefully when he became too weak to handle his frail body.
Although their romance was cut short with Margaux dying too soon, I hope they are together now, happily enjoying what they didn't while in mortality.
"Hey," Wizardo's voice jerked me away from my imagination. I wish I had that luxury. Maybe this mortal existence wouldn't feel so lonely to me.
But no.
I can't let myself be distracted as I had been just now.
Children battling cancer for half their life were in abundance inside the medical facility.
Some parents couldn't afford such expensive treatment.
Hence, either out of goodwill or political scheme, they were mostly the target for charitable events.
Alejandro Tyler held a bake sale to allow students of the baking school to practice their skills and, at the same time, have the money raised in the event go to the children who were admitted to the medical facility.
Those diagnosed with cancer had their one month of medicine for free.
He was hitting two birds with one stone.
I knew for a fact how he was aiming for a political position in the upcoming elections.
With the charity event, he had gained the public's trust by being a reliable servant that cared about them.
Even before he had eyed the seat, he had been doing good deeds and giving away donations to several institutions.
He had shown the people that he was capable of helping without the title of a public servant.
And truth be told, I don't think he even cared.
But gaining that position would allow him to be a vital member of the mafia.
Illegal operations could be hidden more securely once they helped Alejandro reach his goal.
To sweeten his public display of affection to people, Alejandro attended the events and talked to those present.
I wondered what they would think of him when they discovered his dirty little secret.
I'm not judgmental about his gender preference, but how he treated his lovers once he was done toying with them was outrageous.
Had I been friends or a sister to his exes, I'll personally cut his private part and let him scream in pain while I did it very slowly.
I couldn't share that thought with Wizardo.
It somehow felt weird having him imagine the scene with me. That kind of sent shivers to crawl on my skin.
"I'm here," I mumbled, smiling cheerfully while trying not to break character.
The uniform I had to put on was uncomfortable.
Although it was a decent blouse, blazer, and skirt, I'm having trouble fighting the cringe for agreeing to put it on for show.
Several cupcakes were on display by my table, and they came with colorfully designed cakes that either spelled happy birthday or enjoy your day.
Some cakes had no writing on them, reserved for customers who would want to customize them to their liking.
Honestly, I had considered baking before. But the amount of time I had to spend preparing and baking it made me take that thought back.
Buying ready-made goods were more efficient for me.
Seven taught me a few recipes when he was in a good mood. He said I should learn to cook myself a meal on rainy days or if I couldn't leave my apartment.
That occasion was rare.
I only stay in my apartment at night when I have nowhere to go. But most of the time, I was out. Either I was hunting my prey or warding off the memory of my parents and their deaths.
I prefer to stay inside, of course. People tend to make me feel suffocated sometimes.
"Stay alert. The target is coming to you. How long would it take for you to take him out?"
I scoffed, my eyes focused on the approaching figure. He was undoubtedly charming.
With a confident gait, Alejandro plastered a smile for my sake, doing a small wave before stopping right in front of me.
On his side, his security detail stared at me and let their gazes linger before concluding that I posed no threat to their master.
"I'm glad to have you come to our event, young lady. These delicious pieces looked appealing."
I lowered my head, hiding the smirk on my lips.
"Thank you for having me here, sir. I'm glad to have had this opportunity. I've never baked so many cakes since I started school. But thank you! I learned a lot during the process."
Alejandro chuckled, his eyes never leaving mine.
If I didn't know any better, I would assume that he took an interest in me. I was hiding under the guise of a student.
This will be finished in less than twenty minutes if all goes well.
"That's good," Alejandro eyed the closest cupcake on the table. I smiled broadly. "May I?"
"Of course. As a token of my appreciation, you and your companions can enjoy two each."
Alejandro let out a hearty laugh while I waited for him to take a bite.
He returned the smile, biting into the chocolate filling. His eyes looked at me with awe.
However, before he could say anything, the expression on his face shifted.
The cupcake in his hand fell to the ground as he began coughing uncontrollably. His security detail took action, catching Alejandro before he could fall.
There was chaos upon other people noticing what happened.
"Say I finished him in ten minutes. Would I get the same deal from you?" I whispered, feigning a panicked gasp as I watched Alejandro being attended to by several people.
He was carried away on a stretcher. There was a standby medical team, a precaution for emergencies like what happened to Alejandro a few seconds ago.
I heard a chuckle from the other end.
"No," Wizardo snickered. "Make it five."
I clicked my tongue.
"Alright then, it's show time."
