Hannah’s POV
I press my back against the wall and brace myself. He won’t be long. He said he was coming. I have to hold on a little bit longer.
My whole body is trembling, my head jumping back and forth between the past and my current situation. Holding my hands out, sometimes they are the hands I know, shaking and dirty, and other times they are smaller, still dirty, still shaking.
I barely heard Luke when he used the link. I wasn’t sure if it was real or not. I don’t know how long I’ve been in here. From the moment I woke up, the panic has been blinding and all-consuming.
I may have no memory of reaching the pit this time, but I remember when Kaden had tricked me. He had wanted to make amends and said he and his friends would be sneaking out into the secret forest, he didn’t think I’d go, but I knew the people he had named and figured even if I didn’t want to be around him and his friends, I could be with the others that I knew.
