He, the senior boy did not come to the back row. He stopped at a desk one before the back row, pulled a chair out, and sat facing the class, took his book again, leaned on the wall, placed his leg on the other, looked at Lora, and looked at his book again.
The whole class had an eye on him except Lora. He was surprised that she did not even give a glance to him. She only looked at him when he asked her a question.
"Jacob?" One girl came to the class and called him. "What are you doing here?" She looked at him curiously. The girl who came, bothering the whole class was a famous girl at the college.
"Mr. Sebestian told me to look over the class." He did not bother to reply to her.
"Jacob--" Before she said something else he stood and walked to her. Everyone in the class looked at that drama without doing their assignment.
"I think you should go now." He said putting his hands in his trouser pockets.
"But Jacob we can go to the ground now. You don't have to stay here. If you want to stay I can stay with you." Smiling, she was about to enter the class but Jacob stopped her. He extended his hand blocking the entrance. Nataliya was frustrated with his behavior.
"I'm doing a duty here. You should go now!." He told her slowly but firmly. He is a man of law. Everyone knew that Jacob had dignity at the college.
Nataliya went away without uttering a word. She was frustrated and angry. Some girls in the classroom laughed at her silently. The whole college knew that Nataliya was trying so hard to win Jacob over. She was a famous girl at the college but she had competitors, more than half of the girls at the college. He was the crush of a lot of girls. Even Raluca was a competitor.
Jacob turned at the class, sighing. He straightly looked at Lora but she was not looking at him as everyone else. She was doing her assignment without lifting her head, She was busy. Lora loved literature so much that she did not care about anything.
Sighing, Jacob went to his seat again. The boy who was next to her saw that Jacob looked at her so he looked at Lora. She did not have any idea about what was going on. Her eyes were glued to her book. She was writing something so happily and calmly like drawing an art.
"Hey, umm.." The boy next to her tried to talk to her. Lora looked at him.
"Yeah?" She had never talked to anyone in this class. Practically, she talked with no one at the college except in any serious situation. She was not rude to anyone nor was friendly.
"Can I borrow an extra pen if you have one? I just saw mine is empty." He shows the empty ink pen to her. She did not say anything and looked through her pencil case.
"Here." She gave a pen she had to him. When she raised her head, she saw Jacob was looking at her and she had a questionable expression on her face. The boy next to her also looked through where she was looking and found Jacob staring at them. Jacob took his eyes off them and Lora shrugged her shoulder and began to do what she was doing. That boy looked at Lora again and started to write something.
After some time Lora stopped what she was writing and started to pack her things. For the whole time, Lora did not speak to anyone nor raise her head. Apart from the A4 sheet she used, there was nothing left on her desk. She stood up. Everyone looked at her but no one said anything. They knew Lora was interested in literature.
She walked up to Jacob and handed out the paper and said nothing. Jacob looked at her without taking the paper thinking she would say something but she did not open her mouth. He took the paper gently from her. As soon as Jacob grabbed the paper from her she walked out of the class.
"Unalike girl," Jacob mumbled and smiled. The boy next to her also packed his things and handed the paper to Jacob. He was surprised. He took it anyway saying nothing. The boy ran out of the class hurriedly behind Lora.
Jacob looked at both papers. He first took Lora's one. It was filled with so many tiny flowers around the paper. They were even colored with blue petrels. Yellow and white in the middle. It looked so lovely and calm, both paper and flowers. In the middle of the paper, she had drawn lines with a light blue pen. On that, she had written a poem and he read it.
"Forget Me Not.
When everything is unclear and confusing... When you want to give up on everything... When you don't feel like talking to me... When you get angry and feel you don't love me... When I died and my memory is fading... And almost lastly, When the world is ending... Forget me not... If you ever loved me... Forget me not...
Your Love."
On the back side of the paper, she had written her name. 'Lora S. Williams.' Jacob was stunned by her poem. He felt that it was somehow special and impressed by her talent. She did not take more than 20 minutes to complete and even had drawn flowers.
"Who is she?" He whispered.
The boy next to her followed Lora and touched her shoulder.
"Hey!" Lora was shocked and backed away. She had a confused and surprised face. The boy chuckled at her reaction.
"I'm sorry, didn't mean to shock you. I came to give you this." He showed her the pen.
"Oh!" Lora took it smiling a little bit and started to walk again.
"Um... Thank you." The boy said scratching his head and walking parallel to her.
"By the way, I'm Noah." He said.
"Oh!" She said only it. He looked at her chuckling.
"Aren't you going to introduce yourself?" He asked again.
"Why should I?" She asked looking front.
"I mean I know your name but isn't it a normal thing that people do when someone introduces them?" He was confused at Lora's answer. 'I know she is not that much talker but should not at least she says her name.' He thought to himself.
"You said you know my name." She said. "Then why bother to ask?" She blew away his mind. He scratched his head confusedly.
"Is this some kind of prank you do before being a friend with someone?" He was utterly confused. Poor boy!
"No! Do I look like joking or pranking to you?" She looked at her.
"No, but," He could not say anything. "Please don't do this. I'm trying to make new friends." He was scared somehow. Lora chuckled.
"I'm not doing anything." Lora stopped at turned to him crossing her arms.
"What is your intention?" He just sighed relaxing and Lora increased his pressure again.
"I don't have an intention. I'm just trying to be a friend of yours. I'm new to this college. And don't know anyone I saw you from the morning continuously and I felt you are some kind of person I could be friends with." He said without taking a breath.
"That's why I talked to you." He smiled slightly.
"I will think." Lora looked at him from head to bottom and went away. He stood there scratching his head again.
He felt lonely.
