Viola's Perspective-
I hope Veronica's okay with me exiting the ship. I shouldn't have any doubts or worries in such a dangerous environment, but I can't help it. She looks just like my mother did every time father left home to battle in the Mineral Wars. Our people, the Victorians are a race of space warmongers. We have an innate drive to battle and to use our power of the Vector. For some reason my mother was different. She didn't care much for it and quite frankly was against violence. She was gentle and her link with the Vector was quite weak. Every time father left home, he would have to calm her down. I just mimicked father when dealing with Veronica.
The crackling of the electricity around me was enough to get my heart pumping. Truly an exciting environment. A battle here would be most difficult, but the victory would be most sweet. Luckily my suit and tether were insulated so I wasn't fully exposed to the harshness of my surroundings but still even with the suit it was still dangerously windy. One strong gust and I'd be done for. Sure, I could use the power of the Vector to blitz through the atmosphere, but I don't think the suit could withstand the force. Enough battle hungry thoughts for now I have to get ship's battery charged.
I carefully maneuvered to the front of the ship and lifted the hood. With the press of a button a cable came out of the battery. I tossed the cable into a thunder cloud. I then pressed another button on the battery which began siphoning the electricity from the thunder clouds. This was a free and not so easy way to get power for ships. Much cheaper than stopping at a charging station on a habitable planet. Once it finished charging, I hit the same button that let out the cable which sucked it back into the battery. As I put the hood back down the only thing that caught my eyes was Veronica staring blankly through the front window, teary eyed. I did a thumbs up and it was if I wasn't there. I clearly wasn't being ignored. It was as if she was in a trance. I began to tap the glass. I got a little worried. I could just maneuver back on but her pressing the button is quicker and safer. I kept tapping the glass until eventually I saw her eyes get some life back into them. I cracked a smile and continued giving the thumps up and she pressed the button. I was pulled back in. As I was pulled back in, I thought about what I should say to her. She seemed distressed so maybe some encouraging words would help. I'll tell her words dear to me. I'll tell her something I've always wanted to hear. As I got back in the ship, I slowly approached her. She started blabbering as if she completely messed up. I didn't really care because I'm safe and she's also safe. There was nothing to make a fuss about. I just approached her and patted her on her head, and I said,
"It's okay, you were perfect."
Veronica's Perspective-
I should have thought of her actions as corny and funny, like a scene right out of a bad shoujo but I couldn't bring myself to think like that. It felt genuine, it was genuine. It helped me feel better. I just wiped my tears and nodded.
After that she set the coordinates of the ship to our destination. She knew the planet due to it actually being her home world. The fact she knew from my lack luster description was astonishing to say the least. I questioned her about it and her response was quite complex.
"My home world dedicated most of its budget and resources on space travel and technology, so infrastructure and architecture are basic and simple."
Essentially it was a planet of mud houses, but the technology was advanced.
"If he's located on your home-world, why didn't you just search there first."
"My home-world is the last place I expected him to be, especially after the Mineral Wars ended."
"The Mineral Wars!?"
The Mineral Wars was an intergalactic battle for minerals. The most sought-after mineral of them all was salt. There were barely any planets in the universe with an abundance of it and so planets throughout the galaxy sought after it. The war began before I made a connection with alien life, so no one knew of Earth's existence. Salt is a key component in the creation of Veral-Ions. Veral Ions lock off Veral Waves. Veral waves are the most common used radio waves in the cosmos and so the ability to shut down enemy communication is vital in wars and combat. It's also the reason earth wasn't discovered sooner. The earth is the universes largest salt manufacturer and seller. Quite literally being surrounded by an ocean of it. This blocked off the Veral waves. The war came to an end 5 years after I discovered alien life. 5 years later and I was educated in the Cosmos' history and intergalactic conflicts and famous diplomatic struggles.
Apparently, her dad fought in said war. I asked her why her dad wouldn't be there, but she just gave a nervous smile and said,
"Reasons."
I accepted that response. It wasn't my place to pry, and she didn't ask me why I was afraid of electricity, so I respected her privacy. After that I went to take a nap.
I woke up to the sound of Viola training. I got up to go watch her. As I peered through the hall into her training room, she wasn't geared out in her usual outfit. She was wearing something akin to a training bra and tight shorts. It really complimented her figure I must say. God, I hope she can't read minds. She noticed me and signaled for me to come over.
"So my home world is full of strong guys, some almost as strong as me, almost."
"So?"
"I'm going to train you a bit."
"Alright, so I'm assuming you're gonna teach me some defensive techniques against your people?"
"Precisely."
We both got into positions for a spar.
"3,2,1, Go!"
She immediately used her race's super speed ability and went in for a punch. Using my eyes I was able to react and so I went in for a defensive block. Sadly blocking wasn't enough and I was punched into a wall.
"Blocking isn't enough, you have to respond back."
"How you guys have the speed and the reaction time while I only have the reaction time."
"Just do what I did against that guy back in the space station."
She was right. If I'm going against someone with incredible speed the best course of action would be to use that speed against them. Whether it be mentally or physically. We got back into positions and commenced the countdown. Once the countdown ended, she went in for a punch again. This time I blocked again. Viola looked angry but that's exactly what I wanted. I blocked until the very last second. I went in for an elbow the moment she was in range. I thought I had her, but she just responded with an uppercut to my elbow. If she were a normal person an elbow would mess, her fist up but sadly she wasn't normal. Instead, I felt the brunt of that force and I passed out from the pain. After a while I came to, and Viola was sitting waiting for me to get back up.
"Finally you're awake."
"How long was I out?"
"About an hour but that's okay you did great."
"Not perfect though, right?"
I giggled after saying that and intern she laughed right back.
"Exactly, if you were perfect you would of actually landed that elbow on my neck."
"I'll get you next time for sure!"
"Glad to see your spirit still isn't broken but we should do it again later"
I nodded and headed to the dining room. Viola followed and we both had a post training meal.
