When we got to the rooftop, my jaw dropped. It was so beautiful. If only I had known that there was a place like this in school, I would have come everyday.
I could also see the look on Sebastian's face. I wasn't the only one that was happy to be here.
Watching him carefully, I said, "This must be your favorite spot in the school."
He simply smiled.
"So, what are we doing here exactly?" I asked and almost immediately, he turned to me.
"I really missed you." He breathed, taking several steps towards me, causing me to walk backward quickly before he could come close to me.
What the hell did he mean when he said he missed me?
I lifted my hand to ward him off. "Stay back and don't come close." But it was like he didn't hear the words. He kept coming towards me with an intense look on his face. "I.... I have a boyfriend and he is really protective of me, so don't you dare try anything stupid."
To complement the words, I raised my fist, telling him with my eyes that I was going to use it on him if he came closer.
That made him stop, then he laughed.
"I'm not gonna hurt you, I was just joking, okay?" He took a step back. "Please, don't be scared of me. Please. You're really precious to me."
Fear shone in his eyes as he uttered the words. Fear and something a lot like longing. And it rocked me because it didn't make sense. We had only just met each other recently. What the hell was he talking about?
"Have we met before? Do you know me? Did we attend the same school before?" I asked him, curious as hell.
"No, I have not met you before. I got to know you three days ago." He answered with a smile.
"Then why are you saying all these things?" I asked, frustrated. "You keep talking about how I'm precious to you. Why do you say that when you don't know me?"
"You are precious because—you... came... here. Yes, because you came here." He was visibly pleased with his answer and for some reason, that pissed me off even more.
"You are saying all this because I came here? You're a really weird person." I shook my head and turned to leave, but he stopped me by holding onto my hand.
"Let me go." I yelled and yanked my hand away from him.
His eyes were pleading. "Please don't go. Stay with me."
There was just something off about him that I just couldn't quite place my finger on. The sadness in his voice, the fear in his eyes.
Why was he doing this? I mean, I wasn't the most likeable person. Why was he doing all these? Why was he acting like he had known me all his life? Like we had met before? Sometimes, I thought that his voice sounded familiar, but sometimes...
I just couldn't stop thinking.
"I don't know why you are acting strangely, but let me tell you, don't you ever grab my hand like that again. Don't talk to me, don't wink at me and don't even think about us being friends, until you tell me why you are acting this way." I breathed in anger, then stormed out.
This time, he didn't even bother to stop me. He just stood there, staring after me. I guess this time I really hurt him. But unlike last time, I didn't care.
I found myself outside the school. I didn't even know where I was going. All I could think about his how strange Sebastian was and how Zachary still hadn't called me.
Maybe I should call him. Bringing my phone out of my pocket, I proceeded to call Zachary , but I was so distracted by the noise I heard coming from behind me.
From the sounds of it, two people were in a heated argument for reasons best known to them. I turned to leave, but then I heard Zachary's name. Had I heard correctly?
Discreetly, I drew closer to where the people were so that I could hear them clearly and I was so shocked by the scene that I walked in on. So shocked, that I froze.
Standing before me, was Zachary and he had his arms around her in a hug. They looked really cozy and he appeared to be patting her back.
"Zachary!" I yelled and he was so shocked to see me, he flew away from her. "What are you doing with her?"
I walked closer to them. Trust me, I wasn't hurt or jealousy or anything like that. I just wasn't happy that he was the reason someone was crying.
"It's not what you think, I promise." He said and if possible, became even more scared. The girl had stopped crying at this point and she just stood there, staring at the both of us.
I folded my hands. "Explain yourself, then. Tell me why you left me all alone today and tell me why she is crying."
I expected nothing but the truth from him. That was how much I trusted him.
"I was in a hurry because I wanted to complete my assignment. I forgot to finish it yesterday. I slept off, so I rushed to school this morning to get it done." He stammered through every word he said and right before my eyes, his fear grew stronger which only made me suspicious of him.
Why was he stammering?
"And what about her?" I pointed at the girl. "Why is she with you?"
She opened her mouth to speak, but Zachary interrupted her.
He smiled, speaking calmly. "She is my friend and she is going through a lot right now. I just felt bad for her. I only came here to give her my support."
I couldn't believe the words that came out of my mouth. "That's a nice to do."
She smiled at me. "Thank you." Then she turned to Zachary, "I should get going. I feel a lot better."
With that, she left.
"Have you eaten yet?" Zachary asked me once we were alone.
"Yes, I have." I lied.
"Let's go in then. Lunch time is almost over." He said and I just nodded, then we both walked inside.
