Ariana."
"Ariana."
I could hear the voices in my head, but I couldn't respond because I was too tired.
"Ariana."
The voice sounded more annoyed now and I did try my best to respond. Yet, I couldn't move my body. Maybe I was having another sleep paralysis. I was having them a lot more lately.
The annoyance in the voice was clear. "Wake up, dear, or you'll be late."
Lazily, I opened my eyes and saw my mom standing in front of me, staring at me warily.
She folded her hands. "Why bother setting an alarm if you aren't gonna wake up to it?"
Apparently my alarm had been going off for about thirty minutes now and I hadn't even heard it.
Yes, that was the excuse I was giving.
"Mom, you know I've been busy with school and all. It's impossible for me to not get tired." I murmured.
Her forehead creased with worry. "Are you alright?"
I just told her that I was tired and she was asking me if I was okay. Did she not hear a thing I just said?
"No, I'm not fine. I don't want to go to school today." I said, trying to get out of bed.
"Honey, are you sick?" She tried to help me up from the bed, then her hand drifted to my forehead. "Oh my God, you're burning up."
"I think I'm sick." I sounded even more tired than usual. Maybe I got sick from over thinking things that happened at school and everything that was going on with me right now.
Mom sat down on the bed, watching me carefully. "I will call the family nurse to examine you."
"No, you don't have to." I opposed. I didn't want a nurse. I hated anything related to the hospital so a nurse was a complete no for me.
"Why not? We need to know what's wrong with you." She insisted, grabbing her phone and typing away on it.
"No, mom, just make me porridge. I know I'll feel just fine." I said in a last ditch effort to get her to listen to me, but too late, she was already calling the nurse. The last statement from their conversation was that the nurse was on her way.
"Relax. The nurse will be here shortly."
How could I escape this? Going to school was a lot better than being examined by a nurse.
I looked up and saw Dad walking into my room. "How is my baby feeling now?"
"She has a high fever." Mom wasted no time in delivering.
"Have you called the family nurse?"
"Yeah, I've called her already."
Dad came over to hug my seated form. "You will be fine in no time."
All I could think about was the nurse. If only there was a way she could turn back around or cancel at the last minute that something had come up. God. I really didn't want to see her.
"The nurse is here." Mister announced then turned to me with a worried look. "Are you alright, my dear?"
"Hello, Mrs Lopez." The nurse said to Mom with a big smile on her face, "Nice to meet you again."
She was a very young lady. I knew that she was in her late twenties but she looked way younger with her silky hair and great body. Even in her nurse's uniform, you could tell she worked out a lot.
"Nice to meet you, Miss Grace." Mom greeted her.
"My beautiful baby, how are you doing?" The nurse said, successfully bringing all attention to me.
"How are you feeling now?" After some examination with some equipments, she concluded. "It's just a slight fever."
I gave my parents a look. Didn't I tell my parents already that it was nothing serious?
"Just get the drugs for her and she will be fine after she is fully rested." The nurse said and I breathed out a sigh of relief.
"Thanks a lot, nurse. We will get the medication for her and make sure that she's well rested." Mom assured her.
The nurse waved to me before Mister walked her to the door. "Take good care of yourself, Ariana."
I fell back on my bed. "Mom, I told you it wasn't anything serious, didn't I?"
"Sweetheart, we love and care about you so much, so it is completely normal for us to act this way." Dad said with a faint smile.
"Mister has gone to get your medication and as you requested, I'll make porridge for you. The sooner you recover, the better." Mom added.
"I want to rest now." I murmured, closing my eyes. The last thing I heard before I fell asleep, was sleep tight.
