Chapter 30 - Regret 2 (Gina)

Family was the most valuable assets. Gina only recently realized this. She took steps to forgive and begin a new chapter in her life while closing the old one.

Gina awoke early in the morning to prepare for school. Meanwhile, Modesty was still sleeping because she had gotten insomnia the night before. The phone's alarm failed to awaken her. She squirmed briefly before falling back asleep. Gina avoided bothering her.

Her favorite red gown had encircled her slim figure. Her long golden-blonde hair was left down. She went to the kitchen after getting dressed. She quickly made sandwiches and banana smoothies for breakfast.

"Morning, Gina."  Her little sister's gentle voice distracted her from the blender in her hand.

"Hey, morning. You've awoken. Have you cleaned your face and brushed your teeth?"

Modesty nodded slowly. "Yeah, why didn't you wake me up?"

"You looked like you had a good sleep. Besides, you don't need to get up early and go to school."

"Yeah, but mom says sleeping in the morning isn't healthy." Modesty pulled up a chair and sat down at the pantry table.

"Yeah, she's right." Gina poured the smoothie into the glass after the bananas and milk had been thoroughly blended and mixed. She then served it with a sandwich on the pantry table.

"Thank you for the food." Modesty ate the sandwich on her plate right away.

"Today there is an art party at the academy. Would you like to see it?" Gina asked.

"Could I come? But I'm not a college student yet."

"I'm not sure actually. As far as I know, this art party is for the students at the Art Academy. But I suppose I can do something."

"Really? I'd love to come!" Modesty said excitedly.

"Oh, but..."

Gina suddenly remembered the attack at the art party preparations the day before. She began to question whether the campus was safe. However, the same creature broke into her home too. So, no places can be considered the safest.

"But what?" Modesty inquired.

"Oh, it's okay." Gina shook her head. "It's just that I'm afraid someone will come in and disturb us. But don't worry, there are plenty of guards on duty," she explained.

Modesty's expression changed instantly. Her eyelids drooped, as her hand which was still holding the last bite of sandwich lay on the table.

"If you want to stay home, then that's fine," Gina said.

"But I want to come." Modesty insisted.

"Okay. Finish your food and get ready."

Modesty ate her last bite of bread before finishing the smoothie to the very last drop.

"Hm, the breakfast is so good. Thank you, Gina."

"No problem."

The younger sister quickly left the pantry table, then cleaned up and washed the dirty dishes.

After finishing, Gina sat back down in front of the pantry table, then she opened her phone. A text message just arrived.

"Good morning. Would you come to the art party today?" The text was sent by Zeryon Drax.

A smile immediately appeared on her lips.  She typed a reply message. "Morning. Yes, I'd love to come. But May I ask something?"

"Yes, ask anything," Zeryon replied.

Without hesitation, Gina asked him for help. "Can I bring my sister with me? She'll be home alone. So I wanted to take her to the art party."

A response arrived a split second later. "Of course. You can take her. You are free to take her. If you want, I'll formally ask the Academy Head later."

"Oh, thank you so much!"

"No problem. I'd be happy if I could see you in the art party."

"Me too." Gina ended her message.

She got up and headed for the room.  Modesty appeared to be standing in front of a mirror.  She wore a loose t-shirt and knee-length jeans.

After they had gotten ready, they immediately went to the campus on foot. It was not bad to save eight dollars instead of taking the electric train or bus.

Modesty looked very happy, even if they had only gone by walking.

A few minutes later, they arrived in front of the San Francisco Art Academy. Gina found out Zeryon was standing in front of the gate. He immediately greeted her and Gina introduced him to her thirteen-year-old sister.

They walked to the venue. Many students have arrived. A variety of art works were neatly displayed.

"Please go to my stand first, okay?" Zeryon inquired.

"Sure."

Gina and Modesty trailed after him. As usual, Zeryon looked stunning. His bluish black hair fluttered in the breeze. Under the light of the sun, his golden sunkist skin glistened.

Zeryon spoke briefly about the artwork he displayed. The walls were covered in paintings. Others have blank canvases standing on top of the vessels.

Gina and the other students were given free use of the blank canvases by Zeryon. They gratefully accepted it. Modesty appeared content, despite the fact that she had only used any color on her canvas.

"What kind of painting did you make?" Modesty was approached by Zeryon.

"It's an abstract painting with a genuine heart for anyone who can read it."

"Oh wow, cool, keep going." He smiled.

The two sisters didn't want to miss any of the entertainment or games, so they went to different stands. They had fun at the party.

After a day of playing, Modesty felt quite tired and started to get bored. Gina, on the other hand, thoroughly enjoyed the event. She wouldn't be bored while the man she idolizes was with her.

"Gina, can I have an ice cream please?" Modesty asked.

"Sure, you can buy it by yourself. But, please, don't go too far." Gina took a dollar from her bag and gave it to her sister.

"Thank you! You're the best! I will come back soon." Modesty made her way to the gate. There are numerous stores and ice cream parlors right in front of campus.

Gina was still busy with her painting. Occasionally, she turned arround to make sure Modesty didn't go too far. She found her standing in front of the ice cream shop. She flashed her a smile.

After buying the ice cream, Modesty's face suddenly changed. The scowl this morning had disappeared. By holding both ice cream, she took a step towards Gina.

Suddenly, there was a screech of car tires, then a booming sound broke into the air.  It surprised everyone who heard it.

"Ginaaa!"

Modesty's scream was deafening, making Gina's blood freeze instantly. She turned arround to see what had happened.

After seeing what was in front of her, her knees felt weak, as if she didn't have any bones inside. Her vision became blurred, and she collapsed to the ground.
