Chapter 26 - Suspicious 2 (Gina)

The car was speeding through the streets of the city of San Fierro. Gina took a deep breath to calm her bad feelings. Her heart was racing.

Arriving in front of the house, she immediately got out of the car and ran towards the front door.

Yesiba and Bryn followed her from behind. They were worried. Since they were in the car they had tried to calm Gina down.

She kept calling Modesty's name and pounding on the door, but she couldn't hear any response.

She pulled the zipper of the bag, then rummaged through it's contents. Her hands trembled as she took the key and opened the door.

"Modesty! Modesty! Where are you? Modest—"

The door was opened. She ran into the house, her gaze sweeping across the room. She found Modesty sat in front of the sofa. Her face was expressionless and flat. Her attention was drawn to the unlit fireplace.

"Modesty! What happened? Why did you call me as if you were dying?"

Gina approached her sister. Her hand grabbed her shoulder and shook her.

"Modesty, it's me coming home." Gina looked at her sister's face intently.

"Gina..."

"Yes, I'm here."

Modesty immediately rushed to hug her. Then she cried. Gina could feel her sister's hand was shaking on her back.

"What is it?" Gina asked while she rubbing her sister's head. "You don't have to be afraid. I'm here now. I'll protect you," she convinced.

Gina looked up at Yesiba and Bryn who had just entered and stood in front of her. They just looked at each other without saying anything.

Modesty's voice starting to speak caught her attention. "I saw it. I saw it..."

Gina let go of her embrace, then looked at Modesty's face, who looked pale.

"What do you see?" Gina asked in a soft voice.

"There, he is there."

Modesty's head was down, but her index finger was raised in the air towards the room.

"Who?" Gina's eyes widen. "Is there a thief?" She asked in a low voice.

Modesty shook her head.

"There was a black figure. His body was huge. He has red torn and his eyes were red like burning fire. I was so scared seeing him suddeny appeared in front of me," Modesty explained.

Gina's chest skipped a beat. Her mind automatically repeated the events on campus earlier. She wondered if Modesty was talking about the same creature. But how did he get here? Or maybe it was someone else.

"You have to believe me, Gina. Really, I'm not lying. I really saw it," Modesty whined.

"I trust you. Then how did you get out of him?" Gina asked.

Modesty gave a small bottle to Gina. The pepper spray concoction which her mother gave her.

Her mother also gave Gina the same pepper spray. But she had always forgotten to bring it when she went outside. So far she didn't need it because she never left the house.

"Let me check into your room, Gina. May I? I'll break the bones of that freak who dared to disturb Modesty," Bryn said. He pulled his sleeves up, as if getting ready for a fight.

"Hey Bryn. Let's just report it to the police. I'll call 911." Yesiba suggested.

"Don't call the police, please," Gina said, "My mom will find out about everything later. I'll be in trouble," she continued.

Yesiba lowered her hand and responded, "Okay."

Gina's legs still felt weak from the shock, but she forced herself to get up.

"Let me check the state of the room."

"I'll be with you," Bryn offered.

Gina nodded slowly and walked into the room. She pulled the doorknob and opened it.

Gina immediately checked the entire room. She could smell the scent of burning hair, but there was no real person in her room.

"It looks like the freak man has returned to his cave. He has gone," Bryn said who was standing near the window. His hands parted the curtains and he fixed his gaze on the yard.

"Yes, thank goodness," Gina responded.

"Then I'm going to go home first. If there is something, feel free to call me. I'll rush to you like a gust of wind," Bryn stated.

Gina gave her a nod and thanked him.

The two of them went out of the room, then Gina explained to Modesty that she would be fine. The person big tall man she was mentioned was no longer in their house.

Since there was nothing to happen in Gina's house, Bryn and Yesiba said goodbye to go home.

Gina led Modesty into their room and asked her to lie down. In the meantime, she was making sandwiches for their lunch. She didn't forget to make Modesty a glass of warm milk.

She returned to the room when she was finished. She arranged the food on the table.

"Come on, Modesty, let's eat first," Gina suggested.

Modesty got out of bed and walked over to the study table. She took the sandwich and ate it voraciously.

Gina walked towards the two-door wardrobe, right next to her study table. With a little tiptoe she picked up an iron box, then lowered it.

She sat on the bed's edge. Then she took the box and opened it. She could see on the inside there were things she had when she was a kid. She took out the contents one by one.

There were some pictures of her when she was about three years old. She also took her birth certificate. She read the name slowly, "Giby."

Giby was her name until her mother change it into Gina Blitz whe she was five years old. At that time her mother brought the little Modesty to her.

With all the weird things she had seen, she began to wonder if her mother had been trying to imprison her all this time or if she truly wanted to protect her.

Guilt began to infiltrate her chest, as if she had made the wrong decision. Should she tell her mother right now? Perhaps she could wait until her mother returned home. Then she had time to fix and make things better first. But would her mother still accept her later?
