As long as Chastity worked out of town, Gina can't help but take on the chores. She rinsed the cooking pots that she had washed, wiped them, then put them on the shelf.
Her melodious voice gradually emerged. This time, no one stopped her from singing.
A strain similar to the Danse Macrabe wafted through the air, spreading throughout the room in a very soft and beautiful tone.
When she was younger, she was frequently exposed to that song. She didn't really remember who sang it. Then one day she never heard of it again. But the notes had been recorded in her memory. The forgotten song had returned.
"The darkness begins to creep in
The lost souls will be resurrected again
I'm restless in loneliness
Come with me, oh, the helpless
The night gives the hope in the sky
The cold wind will take you fly."
Suddenly, the wind swept across her face like a sword slash. Gina remained silent. The song stopped. Then she turned her gaze towards the window.
"Who's there?" Gina asked.
Silence enveloped the room. She took a handkerchief and wiped her hands, then she walked to the kitchen's window.
She kept her eyes peeled. Her gaze was drawn to a neighbor's peaceful green grassy yard. And no one is present there.
"It seems that Modesty forgot to close the window," Gina mumbled to herself as she tugged on the window, then closed it until it clicked.
She walked over to the pantry table. Dinner was served. Then she called her sister.
"Modesty! Come here! Dinner is ready."
Footsteps could soon be heard running from the other end of the room.
"I'm coming. What did you cook? Is it Flying Duthman burger again?" Modesty asked.
"Of course not. Eating fast food is not healthy."
"Ah it's not fun. You sounds like Mom, now." Modesty pursed her lips.
"Why don't you take a look at the food on the table first." Gina pulled up a chair and sat down.
Modesty lifted her face and opened the food on the table. The aroma of spices from the grilled chicken began to sting the senses of smell.
"Wow, my favorite foods!" Modesty said. Her face turned bright and her eyes lit up.
"Yes, grilled chicken and salad."
"Can I have it?"
"Of course. It's our dinner though."
Gina took the plate, then put two pieces of chicken on top and added a vegetable salad. Then she gave it to her sister.
Without saying much, Modesty ate her dinner voraciously.
"Is it good?" Gina asked as she picked up her plate.
"I hate to say it. But it is so good." Modesty responded and continued to eat.
A smile appeared on Gina's lips and she said, "Eat well but slowly so your food wont go to the wrong path."
"What are you bribing me for this time?"
"Why do you think I can't do anything sincerely?"
"I don't know. You're always mad at me."
"Like, yeah. But doesn't mean I never care about you."
"Really? Stop lying."
"I'm not lying but what ever."
After dinner, Modesty helped Gina in cleaning the kitchen. She started to believe that her sister was not as bad as she thought. Yes, her sister could be annoying at time. Maybe it was because they didn't communicate well. And Gina's heart was only filled with anger over her mother's attitude toward her.
When they were alone at home, in an atmosphere of mutual dependence, helping each other, she began to feel a sense of sisterhood that should have existed for a long time before.
"I'm done cleaning. I want to go to the bed now."
"Okay. Good night."
"Night night." Modesty stepped into the room.
Gina took off her apron and hung it on the wall. She made sure all the doors and windows were closed first, and then she headed to the bed room.
She found Modesty had already lying on her second bunk bed.
She hummed again. Singing the forgotten song in a soft tone.
"Jeez, you sounds so creepy," Modesty mumbled, then her voice was gone. It seemed like she had flown straight into the dreamland.
Suddenly a strong gust of wind hit her face again. She automatically glanced at the window.
"Why does Modesty always forget to close the window?" Gina sighed and took her steps.
After closing the window, she threw herself on the bed. She felt all of her bones in pains and tired after the whole day's activities. She wondered if this was how her mother felt when she worked all day, then she had to clean the house and take care of her two daughters. It felt so tiring.
The ringing of the phone caught Gina's attention. Her hand reached the nightstand table and grabbed the phone. Then she immediately checked it.
The phone almost slipped out of her hand when she saw the name on the short message. It was from Zeryon Drax.
"Are you ready for the class tomorrow?" he asked.
Gina swiftly typed a reply message, then sent it. "Yes, I'm so excited."
Then they started conversing with short messages that were exchanged with each other.
"Great. How was your day?"
"It's really good. And how was your seminar?"
"Going smoothly as usual. But it would be great if you were there."
Gina's heart suddenly pounded. "Is he really expecting me to come to his class?" Gina said to herself.
She returned to typing a reply message. "Yeah, unfortunatelly I couldn't attend it today. But I'll be attending your next seminar. No worries."
"Glad to hear it. See you tomorrow and I hope you have a goodnight."
"See you and goodnight."
The message ended. She then puts her phone on the bed.
"Oh my gosh! Oh my gosh!" Gina screamed as she patted her warm cheeks.
"Gina, stop making a fuss. You woke me up." Modesty's voice from the second bunk sounded like someone was gargling.
"I'm sorry. Go back to sleep."
Gina grabbed the pillow and bit the end. Her mind was churning at the nervousness mixed with the joy she was feeling.
The first message from someone he admires the most could make her so infatuated.
