"Good morning dad." Kate greeted her father, but he didn't answer. Probably his attention was on his phone. Kate happens to be the only daughter of her parents, but unfortunately, she lost her mom when she was still a kid. Her father was counted as one of the billionaires in America, which helped him to raise Kate without any stress.
Though Kate and her father were the only ones living in the big mansion, the mansion was also filled with servants like a hotel.
"All these things don't matter to me, all I need is freedom." Kate will always murmur, but nothing she could do about it, only to wait until the day her father decides to give her this freedom. Freedom of life is her problem.
"Why does he deprive me of my joy?
Why can't he allow me to live a free life? Can a good father ever do this to his daughter? Why can't he see that I am not a kid anymore?"
All these rhetorical questions keep repeating themselves in her brain anytime she's alone.
Alone?
Yes, alone. Completely alone. No one to speak with. Social media sometimes seems so annoying. She will read her books and get tired, watch movies on her plasma television and get tired. Sporadically, everything will just get boring. It seems like a prison. More than a prison with annoying house servants. Everything just seems meaningless around the mansion, including the people.
And her father, Mr. Smith, never cares.
"Good morning dad." She greeted him once more with a smile.
"Oh. Sorry, Kate, my attention was on the phone. How are you?" Mr. Smith responded.
"I'm a fine dad." Kate shyly replied as if she was blushing for him.
"Kate, what's happening?" Mr. Smith asked when he saw the smile on her face.
"Dad, I don't understand. What do you mean?" She asked, looking confused.
"The smile on your face." Mr. Smith said as he tried to figure out what was happening. It has been a long time since he saw that wide smile on his beautiful daughter's face.
"Nothing happened dad," Kate responded as the smile disappeared.
Mr. Smith didn't believe what she was saying, and he asked, "Are you sure?"
"Yeah."
Kate assured him that she was fine and nothing happened. Even she can't say where the happiness was coming from. All she could remember was the joy she had after congratulating one of the players in yesterday's football match, but why the joy?
That's another question she has been asking herself since yesterday, but couldn't answer.
"Dad, are we going out today?" Kate asked as she lazily took one step away from where she was standing.
"Why do you want to go out?" Mr. Smith asked back, and that's where the problem always comes from. He likes asking this particular question anytime she asks such a question.
But it surprised her that he took her to the football field just to watch a match. Well, he loves football, but it wasn't something that looked interesting to her.
Now, she has finally fallen in love with football because of yesterday's experience. "The handsome boy she saw." That was a remarkable day for her. She finally got the joy she has lost in the past few years.
"Sir. Your breakfast is ready." A lady wearing a kitchen outfit said as she slightly bowed to Mr. Smith. He nodded without uttering a word to the lady.
"Good morning, madam." She turned to Kate and greeted her.
"Good morning," Kate responded with a faint smile.
"Are you joining your dad for breakfast?" She asked Kate hastily. There was a visible smile on the chef's face.
"What does she take me for? A baby or what?
Kate thought to herself as she glared at the chef. Though she was older than Kate, Kate never considered it. She was only angry at her father now.
"No. I'm not." Kate finally answered.
"Alright. I will appreciate it if you inform me when you are done." The chef said.
"Okay. I will." Kate responded as she crossed her arms over her chest.
The chef disappeared from the scene, but Kate stood there contemplating what to tell her father so that he could take her out.
"Kate, why aren't you eating now?" Mr. Smith finally broke the silence.
"I'm yet to brush my mouth." She replied.
"Aren't you going to brush now?" Mr. Smith asked, But she shook her head and then nodded.
"Which one are we going for? Is it the yes or the no?" Mr. Smith asked as he buried his eyes on her face. Kate nodded again.
"Well, I can see you're not in the mood to talk now. Nevertheless, all I can say is, if you are done, come and join me at the dining table." Mr. Smith muttered as he stood up from the seat. He headed to the dining table and sat on one of the dining chairs.
Kate went back to her room. "This is a sign of another boring weekend." She mumbled.
Kate entered her bathroom, brushed her teeth, and took a shower.
She came out with a towel wrapped around her chest. She glanced at her phone screen.
"Why is the phone screen light on?" She asked herself rhetorically. Kate moved closer and discovered that It was a call, and the phone was on silent.
"Oh. Jessica." She said,
Kate picked up the call. Surprisingly, it was a video call, but she didn't notice it.
"Wait! Was it a video call?" Kate asked Jessica as she saw her appear on her phone's screen like a ghost.
"Yeah. Didn't you check it?" Jessica, who happens to be the caller, responded.
"Not at all. But I am half-naked. Let me dress up and we would talk later. Okay?" Kate said to Jessica.
"Okay. No problem." Jessica responded as she tried to hang up the call.
"Wait… Wait… Wait." Kate quickly said, but it was too late.
"Did I just see the boy I saw yesterday on the football field passing Jessica? If yes, then where will Jessica be right now?" Kate got confused and decided to call Jessica back with a voice call.
"Hello, sweetie." Jessica's voice echoed from the phone.
"Jessica, please…" before Kate could finish her statement, Jessica cut in and said,
"I thought you said you would call me with a video call."
"Yeah, but that should be later, dear," Kate replied with a calm voice.
"Alright, what is it that you want to ask me?" Jessica asked.
"Jessica, somebody just passed behind you, and he's wearing a red shirt, but I couldn't see his trousers. Please, do you know him?" Kate consciously asked.
"But I didn't see him, so how am I supposed to know whether I know him or not?" Jessica smirked.
"He's a bit taller than you with a handsome face, probably with long hair if I am not mistaken," Kate explained.
"Huh! Kate, sincerely speaking, I haven't come across any guy like that," Jessica responded.
"Okay… Okay… Where are you now? Kate asked.
"In a shopping mall," Jessica answered.
"Which of the shopping malls?" Curiosity took over, which made her inquire more.
"Gold bill shopping mall," Jessica answered.
"Alright, let me talk to my father if he will allow me to come over," Kate said.
"Believe me, Kate, your father won't allow you and even if he does, you and I know that you won't come alone," Jessica said.
"It's true, but let me try my luck," Kate responded.
"Okay, sweetie. Good luck." Jessica said in a caring voice.
"Thanks." Kate appreciated
"Yeah."
Kate hung up the call and dressed up.
Immediately after she stepped out of her room, her father sighted her.
"You look cute in that dress." Mr. Smith praised her dress.
"Thank you, dad." Kate appreciates it.
"Welcome. Come over and sit down and enjoy your breakfast." Mr. Smith called her over even when he knew that she was coming.
"Thanks, dad," Kate responded and walked up to the dining table. The chef was called by one of the security men.
After eating, Jessica finally spoke up.
"Dad, I want to go to the Gold bill shopping mall for shopping." She said as she lowered her gaze to the floor.
"Not today. I will take you there tomorrow." He replied.
"But dad…"
"I said tomorrow. Please let me enjoy my peace." Mr. Smith angrily replied.
"Okay, dad," Kate answered and left the dining table for her room.
Jessica later called her, but she ignored the call and texted her, "I'm not in the mood."
