Chereads / To love William Carter / Chapter 7 - Finally being Kind of useful

Chapter 7 - Finally being Kind of useful

I returned home with a melancholic face and a broken heart.

My parents and Brittany were drinking wine when I walked in.

They were having a heated conversation. Something related to the law I guess.

"You are back already?" My mom said.

I sigh. "He wouldn't make it" I slumped into the couch and took the glass of wine from Brittany and gulped it down.

She said nothing and went for another glass.

"You should invite the young man to dinner soon," My dad said.

A swallowed hard.

"Sure," I said glancing at Brittany. She gave me a calm look. Okay she got my back.

I relaxed.

"Your father as an announcement." My mom tells me unexpectedly.

"Wait you didn't? do the announcement?" I asked with surprise. I am always excluded from things like that since I don't show interest in any of my father's achievements.

Like when he won the biggest case of his life. A high-profile murder trial. I wasn't there when they celebrated because I didn't give a shit about it.

"I can't make the announcement without you around." My dad said making a warm feeling spur through my chest.

I always feel left out but today my parent has made me feel like I belong.

I had to just dress nice enough and pretend to be dating the senator's son to make that happen.

I pretend I like being different from my family. But I have come to realize how badly I want their acceptance.

"I am running for governor of New York ." My dad announced.

"What?" My glass fell from out of my hand.

With the look, my mother is giving me I bet she wishes I was a maid so she can fire me for breaking that glass.

Too bad I am her daughter.

"Governor" I blinked.

"Yes"

This is a nightmare. My parents being the owners of one of the biggest, most powerful law firms in the country Pierce & Mackenzie law firm comes with a whole lot of restrictions. Now, this. I don't think I can survive.

My parents are co-partners of the law firm. Pierce is my dad's surname of course. My mother's middle name is Makenzie.

So they name the law firm Pierce & Makenzie. And they have dominated the law field for over 20 years, winning high-profile cases together.

My dad and mom are called the sharks in the field of law for a reason.

They are the best criminal defense lawyers in the country.

You can be the world's most dangerous serial killer with a lot of evidence against you, but my mom and dad will find a way to make you escape the punishment of the law.

They are damn good. Sometimes I feel proud to be their daughter.

Brittany is also good. She is following their footsteps but I don't think she can live up to their achievement.

She is too kind and moral to reach their level of achievement. She needs to be ruthless like them and do away with her beliefs and morals to be like them.

And now my dad wants to become a governor. This is going to be a nightmare. My restrictions are going to double.

A maid came to get rid of the broken glass shattered on the floor.

"That's great," Brittany said excitedly.

"Wow," I said dryly. I have to act way too perfect now like Brittany. Since we are going to be famous in New York now.

"We are having dinner tonight with the former governor and his grandson." My mom said.

I grimace. I hate when my parent friends and associates come over for dinner. They always intend to ask the adoption question.

My parents and siblings are blonde and I am a brunette that's weird to people.

I got my brown chestnut hair from my grandpa Lucas, my dad's father. My grandma is also blonde. My dad got his blonde hair from her.

I actually look like my dad. I got his brown eyes and some of his facial features except his blonde hair of course. But that doesn't stop people from asking if I was adopted.

"I am off to my room." I just want to curl up in bed and cry over not being able to meet William.

I stood up to leave.

"I need the former governor's endorsement to win the election. And to secure that I will need your help, Adeline." My father said to me.

I furrowed my brow up and frown. "huh? Me dad?"

"Yes, you are going to play the Violin. The former governor loves Classical music."

"Brittany can play the piano, That's also classical music," I suggested.

"His late wife used to play the Violin. It's best if we give him that nostalgic feeling."

I sunk back into the couch and slumped my head on the couch. Stiff neck for days here I come. I rubbed my neck.

One thing I hate about playing the Violin is, that a stiff neck is unavoidable.

It's been ages since I played the violin. I use to love playing every day but I developed love for dancing so I started playing it less.

"Fine" I stood up again.

"I need to start practicing then."

"Don't let us down darling" My mom said softly.

"I won't," I said and climbed the spiral stairs, heading straight to my room.
