Melrose's last words were directed to Lord Lewis. Although she didn't have the heart to push him to his death by exposing his crime, it didn't mean she would act as if it was nothing. She thought he was someone who valued honor before excellence but she was wrong. It was all a pretense. The discovery only widened the gap between them even more.
"I am done with my breakfast, father. Please go home early if possible. There is something I want to discuss with you."
Lord Lewis noticed something about his daughter. Her usual tone was cold and distant, but today there was a different kind of firmness in her words. He watched her step out of the dining hall, his eyes narrowing.
That afternoon, the weather was nice without the dark clouds that loomed over the horizon yesterday. What Melrose said to Lord Lewis was just an alibi, but she went to the palace regardless. She figured she should talk with the King first.
