Chereads / The Proselyte's POV / Chapter 30 - Intermezzo

Chapter 30 - Intermezzo

With that said, I still couldn't believe that Hans had just deliberately told a daring interviewer about his defeat. While this might fool a lot of people, especially for those who had been preaching the almighty Golden Beard like a deity.

But for those who had known the man long enough, it would only place a sheer doubt that cloud their judgment and opinion of the walking behemoth. After all, the Golden Beard himself could literally rival many Urban Dusk that exist within this District.

Streetlight Talon had only been nominated as Urban Dawn recently because of the burst of activity. If not for the teleportation technology that they had, the Streetlight Talon would probably have stood as an Urban Dusk since a long time ago.

"I can understand what you're feeling, chief." Lila nodded to herself. "Even I couldn't differentiate fantasy and reality after receiving the data of the report."

"Lies," Toronto disrupted, still with a stern face. "You looked both uncontrollably excited and asphyxiating as you tried to convince yourself that such a thing couldn't possibly happen."

"Still, but come on! Mr. Faust might be really strong and reliable in my opinion, but he is definitely not as strong as the Golden Beard who had taken down many Urban Hope in the span of a single year!"

Toronto placed his gloved hand on his chin, ignoring the flustered Lila who tried to come up with an argument regarding her embarrassment. "Regardless, even I, for once, had never seen Faust of the Hunter Gathering lost in a fight after these years. Then again, I have been rarely dispatched lately, so take my opinion with a grain of salt."

"That pinch of salt from your opinion doesn't change the fact that this man has fought with the Golden Beard in the slightest. In my opinion, your opinion is not really needed." Gilga playfully pointed at Toronto with a pained yet playful face.

Toronto's face didn't change in the slightest. "I'm sure that taking an opinion from a woman who hasn't slept for weeks is considered to be necessary."

While the two prominent figures of the Streetlight Talon were throwing jabs at each other, Lila slowly approached to my side and tip-toed as she leaned her face to my ear.

Lila then whispered, "Mr. Faust, how long have you been in relationships with Chief Gilga?"

I whispered back, "Six months."

"No way!"

"Of course not, we just had a proper interaction with each other today."

"You know." Gilga gave us the side eye as he held Toronto in the air by the neck. "I can hear both of you clearly."

"Huwaa!"

"Aside from that, I do think that we will uphold a deal with the Mediator of the Hunter Gathering over there in regard to the aforementioned offer." Toronto wasn't annoyed by the slightest even though he was still choked in the air. "But instead of a deal between me or Gilga, it would be with the entirety of the Streetlight Talon, meaning that we will pay you more than a mere 390,000 Solus for those future heads."

"Oh." I raised my index. "As a bonus to my offer, I won't be commencing the act with my own namesake. Instead, I want to suggest that I will temporarily wear the status of the Streetlight Talon in the time span of that activity."

Gilga unleashed her grip on Toronto's neck as the atmosphere leaned into a negotiative tone.

"That is some weird bonus we got. Though, it will benefit us the most in any way." Toronto coughed, probably because of the chokehold. "Does that mean you will wear our uniforms during the operation?"

"Bingo!" I gave a double finger-gun gesture. "Ten meaningless points for you~"

"With that, I'll handle our preparation." Toronto then darted his eyes onto the purple head and the tall green head. "As for you two, both of you can make a preparation before going to District 64. As an extra side mission, take your time to rendezvous with the third party agent at Shenqi Office when available."

"Riiiighht~" Gilga put on a cheerful tone as she dragged Lila out from the area. "I'll see you at the HQ."

"What are you saying, we all are moving now."

With that, the five of us went to the tall building under the large cavern chamber that looked like it was glitching into the underground. As we passed others all kinds of mannerisms of workers of the busy Streetlight Talon, we passed through the reception and went to the lower floor using a wide elevator.

The interior of the building looked very artistic in all kinds of sense with the hallway accompanied by a reddish brown color palette and the recurring patterns of golden hue tendrils in most of the decorations.

In fact, when I looked closer into it, I kinda just realized that their black mane-hooded jackets have some golden tendrils on the knitting edges and the zippers.

I also had the chance to see numerous sections and departments within the Streetlight Talon although not by much. And because of our long and weird destination, I met some of the people who knew my arse for coming to the Cassandra Tavern daily.

"Ey yo! How the hell did you get here!?"

It was the person who usually stood guard on the front door of the pub.

"I sneaked into the sacred place and these scary people are sending me to jail for committing trespassing."

"He is our new guy, although temporarily." Toronto gestured his thumb at me.

"Well shit, seems like it would be easier to find you for some business then."

"I'll treat ya to some stew later."

"Aight, pretty cool man!"

He then went on with his business.

"Does he know the news?" I nonchalantly struck a conversation.

"Nope, not at all." Toronto shrugged, albeit with no change in expression. "Not all get the privilege to be notified immediately of an ongoing change in the state of media from the Hives. They all will know eventually, through the passing rumors and gossip."

"Ay caramba indeed."

"So why do I need to follow you again?" Gilga asked with a raised eyebrow.

"The prototype, of course."

We then arrived at the reception to the workshop area.
