Chapter 28 - Death March

The meeting day had come and Chan went to the recruiting site in the afternoon.

Before he had reached the testing site he could hear many voices chatting and whispering to each other.

Reaching the testing site he was met with many men standing around, just waiting to hear their orders from the higher-ups in the army.

Being alone and not coming with anyone else, Chan had no group of people to converse with so he sat down on the ground by himself. He looked around to get a gauge on the number of people there. He counted about 62 people there. All of the people there were men.

Sitting down by himself, Chan waited a while until a man in armor, on top of a horse came with a group of men, also on a horse and in armor.

The man leading the group had black armor on with light green accents, while the rest all had light green armor.

"Pass out their markings," said the man in black armor to his men around him.

Looking over at the crowd of people, he told them, "After you put on your markings, get ready to head off as we're marching to Wiki, our battle site is a city of Sotu."

The man in black armor stopped talking as his men passed around a light green cloth. The man in light green armor told everyone that the cloth was for them to know who is an ally and that they should tie it somewhere visible.

Putting on their marking, the group including Chan set off for Wiki.

Wiki was a city close to the Biyou border and was a 2 weeks trip for the group.

During the 2 weeks of continuous marching, Chan was by himself most of the time and would eavesdrop on other conversations to get an idea of the situation as there were some veterans in the group.

Hearing the others talk, Chan concluded that they were marching and would eventually meet up with the other groups that were also marching and they would form an army. Chan also found out the guy in black armor's name and role, his name was Boyo Tu and he was a 300-man squad leader. The men from Chan's recruiting site were gonna be extra bodies to include with his 300 personally trained soldiers.

Now only 2 days away, Chan and his group meet up with the other groups. Including Boyo's group and the others, the total amount of soldiers was 8,000. Biyou and 3 other kingdoms' expansion operations had to be a little smaller than usual as they had Vin: the largest kingdom, bordering their kingdoms, so they had to be careful if they weren't planning to invade Vin.

Marching 8,000 strong, the Biyou expansion army made it to Wiki. Wiki was informed of the invasion as the religion of the continent made it where they had to warn the city that they were planning to invade or else they would be cursed by the father of death. The superstitious continued to live on as one time an army marched into a town without any warning and lost to a town defended by only townspeople.

The sun was about to set as Boyo instructed everyone, "Set up camp as we will rest for tonight and proceed to do battle tomorrow, pray to see those that you love again while you can as tomorrow will be a bloody day.". After giving his instructions, Boyo set off to meet with the other higher-ups at their campsite.

Before Chan had joined the army, he read up on the generals of Biyou. Biyou had 4 generals: Wa Gi, Nen Wu, Qin Ma, and Min Spo.

Min Spo was one of the recruiters that Chan meet 11 years ago in Biyou, working his way up in the army Min Spo was rewarded with a general role in the army.

Other than Min Spo, Chan had no idea how the other generals look.

Growing up in a General's family, Chan knew the ranking of the military: Infantry, squad leaders, captains, lieutenants, and lastly generals.

Infantry was just another soldier in an army and could only up to 50 people in special cases where they get called up to be an infantry leader, a squad leader is split into 4: 100, 200, 300, and 400-man squads, a captain can lead 500 plus people and would cap off at 900, a lieutenant can lead 1,000 people and cap off at 9,000, and lastly, a general can lead as many people as he wants.

( Crackle! )

Sitting around the campfire, Chan was mentally preparing himself for the day that was to come.

Praying to whoever would listen, Chan hoped to make it back not only to see those he had cared about but for him to have the strength to last long enough where he can one day fulfilled his goal of revenging his family's death.

"Omah!" Chan said to conclude his prayers as that was the phrase "amen" for the world that he was in.

"Omah".

Chan could hear others finish their prayers also.

( Clop! Clop! )

Making his way to the leader of the invasion, Boyo was to meet up with En Spo, the leader of the invasion. En Spo was Min Spo's lieutenant and younger brother by 4 years.

Standing outside of the tent doorway Boyo said, "Boyo Tu here, I'm here to greet and strategize with the head commander of the invasion."

"Come in," said one of the voices in the tent.

Getting past the curtains for a door of the tent, Boyo could see the other squad commanders with En.

In the middle of the tent laid a map of the layout of the city, kingdoms would send spies to every city and they would make a layout of the city and pass it over to their higher-ups.

The group of men conversed and came up with revisions of the original plan to invade the city until they all came to an agreement of hitting the walls from different sides and hoping to have a group that can climb up the wall and somehow gets the door open. Most of the men in the squads led by their leaders are somewhat able to use ki and could use it to climb the walls, therefore those who couldn't use ki are pretty much used as meat shields for those who are able to use ki. Also, most of the men trying to breach the city gate was going to be used as a distraction and should only be filled with expandable soldiers.

The original plan was for the soldiers to rush the front gate and protect the battering ram used to force open the gate, instead after looking over the plan with the map they found the doorway to the compartment for opening and closing the front gate.

The discussions ended and each squad leader and captains are to go back to camp and inform their men of the plan for the upcoming battle.

Boyo rode back to inform Chan's camp. He went on the explain the plan and how he was going to lead them to breach the city gate. Even if the plan called for them to be a distraction, Boyo still didn't care and would still lead his men as best as he could, "Everyone here if you don't have a shield, you should get one from the equipment room as we are going to be showered with arrows as we proceed to force the door open, those with big bodies and are confident with their strengths come up here as you will play a vital role."

All of the big and stocky guys went to the front of the campsite as Boyo informed them they were the ones who will help push the battering ram.

"Everyone else will push forwards towards the gate and try to climb up and get rid of anyone who dares try to stop you, once you are on the wall hold as long as you can while the others try to destroy the gate. That is all for the plan, get some rest, as of right as the sun comes up tomorrow we are heading into hell.".

Boyo walked back into his tent and Chan could hear the whispers of the others.

"I knew we were going to die whenever we had Boyo as our leader."

"Why is that?"

"Don't you know he is infamous for leading plenty of soldiers to their death as he always leads the soldiers with the most dangerous roles,"

Chan kept hearing the same name come from all of the conversations that were being had and that was, "Boyo "The Suicidal" Tu".
