Chapter 33 - New Home

Chan arrived at the real estate office, "Realtor Sa go," Chan read the sign outside of the building.

"Ha, so the sign is just his name," Chan said to himself as he opened the door.

( Creak! )

"Welcome to my real estate office, how could I help you?" said a man behind the counter as Chan walked in.

The man behind the counter had a mole by his left nostril and had a bowl cut.

Looking around first, Chan then told the man behind the counter, "Yea, I'm looking to buy a house.".

"Ok, are you looking to outright buy a house in full or are you going to use a loan from a bank?" the man behind the counter asked.

"Well I do have some gold coins, so how much is a house?" Chan asked back.

"The lowest price for a house in Mas is around 15 gold." said the man behind the counter.

"15 gold?? I only have about 6." Chan replied after hearing the price of a home.

"Pffft," The man behind the counter trying to hold in his laughter from hearing the amount Chan had.

Chan looked the man dead in the eye and wasn't smiling or laughing.

"Sorry about that, I didn't mean to laugh, but if you have 6 gold coins, I have a home in Dia that only cost about 4 gold coins," said the man after he immediately stopped laughing.

"Dia? Where is Dia?" Chan asked.

"Dia is a town only an hour away from Mas. So would you like to go check out the house?" The man behind the counter told Chan.

"Sure, we can go check it out," Chan replied.

Getting off his stool the man behind the counter went in the back for while before coming back with 2 sheets of paper and told Chan, "Now let's go get a carriage to take us there.".

Standing on the stool, Chan thought the man was taller, but following behind him as he led the way to go find a coachman willing to take them to Dia, Chan noticed how short the man was. The man was only 5'1, although Chan wasn't the tallest as he only stood at 5'11, he was still significantly taller than the man in front of him.

Heading to the stable and finding a willing coachman, Chan and the man sat in the back of a wagon instead of a carriage, as the man with Chan was too cheap to pay for a carriage.

With nothing to do, Chan sparked a conversation with the man next to him. Talking with the man, the man introduced himself as Sa Go.

"So, Sa Go what do you like to do in your free time?" Chan asked.

"Make money," Sa Go answered.

"Well, anything else other than making money?" Asked Chan as he was dissatisfied with the first answer.

"What else is there to do than make money," Sa Go replied.

Continuing to converse with Sa Go, Chan found out Sa Go had no family of his own but had a mother and father who lives in another city. He moved out to make his own money as he had a bad relationship with his father.

( Clop! Clop! )

"We have arrived in Dia," said the coachman.

"Alright, we'll be back," Sa Go told the coachman.

"Don't take too long as I also charge by the hour," the coachman replied.

"You don't have to tell me," said Sa Go, annoyed.

Walking to the house, Chan noticed how peaceful the town was compared to the capital. Unlike the capitals filled with mostly adults, the roads in Dia were filled mostly with kids, running around and playing.

The atmosphere reminded him of Busin, the town next to his old home back in Kan.

A sudden rush of negative emotions swarmed Chan's mind, he felt sad and angry as he remembered the night that his family was killed.

"Everything alright?" Sa Go asked Chan, as he noticed Chan's eye become watery.

"Yea, some dust just flew in my eyes, haha," said Chan hiding his true feelings.

( Thump! Thump! )

"Here it is," said Sa Go as the two made it to the house.

The house from the outside was an ok size for a house. The house wasn't the biggest as it only had 1 room, one bathroom, and a kitchen.

In the backyard of the house had a well to fetch water. "There is also a river not too far down from here also," Sa Go told Chan.

The house was located near the heart of town as there were other houses near. Most of the neighbor was outside of their house watching Chan as he received his house tour.

Chan waved at the little kids staring at him.

The little kids quickly hid from Chan. He smiled as he remembered that he used to be like those kids.

After finishing the tour, Sa Go asked Chan, "So what do you think, do you want to buy it?".

Not wanting to stay at an inn anymore, after what happened last night. Chan agreed to buy the house, "Yea, I'll take it.".

"Good, I just need you to sign these 2 papers and…" Sa Go reached his right hand out with his palm facing up.

"What?" Chan asked, confused as to what Sa Go is doing.

"Cough, Cough. The 4 gold coins please," Sa Go told Chan.

"Oh yea, give me a second," said Chan as he reached in his coin pouch and took out 4 gold coins. "Here you go," Chan handed the 4 gold coins to Sa Go.

"Thank you, now just sign here and here," Sa Go instructed Chan where to sign on the papers.

( Scratch! Scratch! )

Chan signed the papers then Sa Go told him, "the house is now officially yours," before heading back to the coachman.

Not following Sa Go back because he had already brought all of his stuff, Chan went to settle in his new home.

( Creak! )

Opening the front door of the home, there was an area to remove his shoes. After removing his shoes the first room he was met with was the kitchen. Opening the door on his left through the kitchen lead him to two 2 doors on each side, the left door was the bathroom and the right door was his bedroom. The bedroom was quite spacious while the bathroom was normal-sized. His new bedroom was a little bit bigger than his childhood room back in the Ibu's estate.

Setting his stuff down in his room. Chan had no bed nor furniture in the house, leaving all of his things except his house key and coin pouch, Chan made his way into town.

Chan went around the town, going from store to store. From the woodworking store, he ordered a table and a desk. From the mattress store, he ordered a decent size mattress that would fit two people.

Walking around the town still, Chan stopped in his tracks when he smelled something delicious in the air.

( Sniff! Sniff! )

( Growl! )

"I really haven't eaten all day, let's see where that smell is coming from," Chan told himself as he was led by his nose.

Making his way to a food stall. The visual and smell all hit Chan at the same time, causing his mouth to water.

( Sizzle! Crackle! )

He could see the roasted ducks hanging on a pole and could see the chefs chop up the roasted duck. He could also hear and smell the fat of the duck drip down onto the wood burning underneath them.

The line in front of him was short so he waited in line before ordering a whole duck for himself.

"Would you also like some liquor with your duck?" the male cashier asked Chan.

"Sure why not, how much would that be in total?" Chan asked.

"The duck plus a bottle of liquor would cost you 38 copper," the cashier told Chan.

Handing the cashier the exact change, Chan received his plaque and sat at an open table as he waited for his food.

"Here you are sir," said the female server as she brought out his roasted duck and bottle of liquor.

The skin of the roasted duck was glistening. Ripping off the leg of the duck, Chan took a bite.

( Crutch! )

The crispy duck skin with the juicy tender meat made Chan very happy as he had a big smile on his face.

"Now let's try some liquor," said Chan as he poured himself a cup.

Filling up his shot-sized cup, Chan down his first-ever shot of liquor.

"Kuuah!" Chan let out a sound as he felt like the liquor burned his throat.

Looking around and seeing the others eat and drink as though it was the best thing ever, Chan decided to take a bite of the duck meat and then drink another shot.

Pouring himself another cup, Chan took a bite from the duck leg and then immediately gulped down the liquor, Chan thought to himself, "Ok that was actually kinda good.". Doing the same action of taking a bite then drinking a cup, he finished his roasted duck and bottle of liquor.

"Oh, I don't feel *hiccup* nor– *hiccup* normal," Chan said to himself.

Chan left the food stall and quickly made his way home. Stumbling and tumbling, somehow he still made it back home.

( Thump! )

Laying on the floor next to the shoe area, Chan quickly fell asleep.
