Chapter 5 - Chapter 5 The Great Chang Family

After pouring out everything on her heart, Lydia eventually leaves the hospital. Then she goes to the pawn shop and takes her watch to compensate for her father's hospitalization costs. When Lydia finished all the processing and returned to the ward, she realized that Brooke was already gone.

Lydia sighed, all of a sudden she was lazy to investigate and find out where Brooke was going. She sat by Lewis' bed, took Lewis' hand, and put it on her face.

The warm hands of Lewis, Lydia father finally reassured her.

Lydia could no longer hold back and began to cry, murmuring, "Dad, I'm so tired. Can't you get up quickly. Please, talk to me, and let me know that I'm not alone? I really don't know if I'm doing it right, and I don't know if you'll agree on the path that I choose. But I really can't do anything else..."

Lydia lowered her head and gently touched her father's belly, facing Lewis, sobbing and saying, "I can only do this. I hope you're not upset with me and don't despise me like everyone else. I am your daughter, you can scold me, you can hit me, but don't look down on me."

Lydia looked up and held back her tears, then smiled at Lewis, "Look at me who is never grateful... I should be happy, I'll meet Madam Chang tomorrow, she'll sure keep her promise of helping our family. Everything will be all right. When you wake up, I will ensure that you see the Ahn Family stronger again..."

Lydia finished speaking, leaned down and lay beside Lewis' bed. She took a deep breath, closed her eyes, and fell asleep.

The following morning, the Chang family sent a car to take Lydia on time and drove to the Chang Family residence. Although Lydia was a wealthy person, the luxury of the Chang family home was beyond Lydia's imagination.

The first impression she had as she entered the house of the Chang family was that of a great noble house. The manor house resembled an ancient Korean and Western arrangement. After passing the castle, she saw the main house of the Chang Family. In comparison to the Korean-West mansion, their main home was more Korean in style. It looks traditional and old fashioned, like it's been there for years. Thus, this former main house showed the accumulated wealth of their family generations.

This magnificent mansion made Lydia feel a bit nervous, it took a long breath before she relaxed a bit the tension and got out of the car.

"Lydia, the Old Madam is waiting inside. Follow me." A man who looked like a butler approached Lydia and said in a polite manner.

Lydia nodded and replied in a low voice, "Alright, sorry for the trouble."

Entering Chang's house and seeing the simple and casual decoration of the room, Lydia fell relaxed a bit. Although the decorations of Chang's house didn't even seem as luxurious as the Ahn's, Lydia had some understanding of antiques. She knows that even the water vases used to arrange the flowers on the corners of the walls, were antiques of a few years which was enough to buy ten of her villas. And even though the whole decoration looks random, it shows an abstract ye elegant arrangement.

Along the way, Lydia trying her best to carefully pass through the precious antiques furniture. Entering the corridor, she saw an old woman with white hair sitting on the couch, and next to the old woman sitting a middle-aged woman wearing traditional Korean clothes.

Lydia never saw that white-haired old woman, but she did see the middle-aged woman. Her name was Maddison Chu and was the second wife of the Chang Family and William's aunt.

The Chang Family had two children, the first child was William's parents. But sadly, William's parents died a few years ago in a plane crash, and only William was left. The second child is Andrew. Andrew was William's second uncle, not Grandma Chang's biological son, but the illegitimate child left behind by Grandpa Chang.

After Grandpa Chang died, Andrew was picked up by Grandma Chang. Even though he was given the name of a descendant of the Chang Family, Andrew paid him no mind at all. Andrew's wife is Maddison. Lydia also heard that they had a son who was William's cousin, but this person never appeared.

Although Lydia had never met this old woman, but when she saw the woman who sits beside second wife of the Chang house, she couldn't help but admire her. Her name was Elizabeth, sitting with a respectful and graceful face. Lydia had already guessed that the old woman was the legendary old madam of the Chang house.

The old woman from this cold family is William's Grandma. Lydia only heard that she was from Kim Family, Elizabeth Kim. Widowed when she was young, she supported the entire Chang family with her own strength. She lost her middle-aged life, but she managed to keep the treasury of the Chang family that did not fall into the hands of others. Old Madam Chang's actions were gentle and cruel, and many men who claimed to be strong businessmen were defeated at her hands.

It was only after William grew up that Old Madam Chang was officially step down from her position as the head of Chang Family. Since then, she rarely appears in public. Lydia was also the first outsider to see Old Madam Chang after more than five years.

Lydia bowed slightly, to Old Madam Chang, and she said elegantly, "Greetings, Old Madam Chang."

Then Lydia turned to Maddison and said, "Hello, Second Madam Chang."

Old Madam Chang immediately smiled and said, "I've already heard the rumor. And it's seems that it was true, this girl is smart and lovely. Look, she doesn't need any introductions, but already knows who I am."

Maddison nodded with a smile and said gently, "Old Madam is always accurate at judging someone character."

Then, Maddison turned towards Lydia. She glanced at Lydia intently. Even though Maddison seemed like a gentle and elegant person, but Lydia could sense that Maddison didn't like her.
