Night At Crescent Moon Pack,
"Run! Kora run!" Kora heard her mother tell her while holding her small hand.
"But mommy, I can't run anymore my legs are tired," Kora said in between her pants trying to run as fast as she could. She looked at her mother who was also having difficulty running. Her pregnancy was hindering her greatly and she was not able to shift as it would hurt her unborn child.
She would turn now and then to look behind them. She could hear loud growls approaching them. Fast. She felt useless being unable to shift if she was not pregnant then she would be able to protect her daughter she could only hope that her mate would find them in time.
"Mommy, where's Papa? Is he not coming with us? Why is he with those bad people? Does he not know that they are bad? Kora asked and stopped to look at her mother who was sweating profusely. Trying to catch her breath as her breathing has become heavy.
"Mommy, are you not...? Before could say more she was silenced by her mother.
"That's enough, Kora!" She looked at her daughter with a frown. Kora pouted her lips and looked down at her toes. "Let's go. We have wasted enough time here," she said grasping her hand and started running again.
Being the stubborn little girl that she was Kora pulled her hand from her mother's grip and sat on the ground with her hands folded across her chest. "I want Papa, something bad will happen to Papa if we leave him."
She could hear their pursuers drawing near and her daughter was being too stubborn to deal with them at the moment. She was only five years old but very stubborn when she wanted to be. She bent forward scooped her in her arms and started running again. "It's okay sweety, your Papa will be fine, he will come to find us later," she whispered, but the little girl was adamant about her father getting hurt.
"No Mommy, we should go back, Papa is not fine, he will get hurt if we leave him," she said, shaking her head at her mother.
To say that she was not worried would be a lie, especially when her daughter was saying things like this. She desperately wanted to go back but she knew that it would be foolish of her to do so. She could only hope and pray for her mate.
"Sweety, your Papa is fine. Nothing will happen to him, okay?" she said trying hard to ease her worry even when she was having a sick feeling within her.
Kora shook her head again and started crying " No Mommy, Papa is hurt we need to go back for Papa."
Right after she said that she heard her mother scream in agony and fell to her knees and dropped Kora immediately. She felt the mate bond snap and started rolling on the ground screaming. Kora looked at her mother in confusion as fear gripped her. Something was wrong with her mother and her Papa was not there to protect them. Her Papa and Mommy are hurt.
Kora walked to her mother and touched her, "Mommy, what's wrong? Are you hurt? Where do you feel pain?" Kora asked, trying to help her mother as much as she could but she just kept screaming and writhing all over the place.
Soon their pursuers had caught up with them. Seeing this, even a child could understand they were in danger.
"Mommy!" Kora screamed as soon as she saw the people approach them she knew them as those bad people that hurt her Papa. She did want to be near them. She did not want them to hurt her Mommy as well but her mommy was already hurt and she did not know why. "Mommy, get up those bad people are here. Mommy, please get up." She cried out while pulling in her mother's hands trying to make her stand up again.
But her mother was not responding, her breathing had become shallow. She was too tired from all the running and the pain from the snapped mate bond had rendered her completely vulnerable.
All she could think of was her daughter's safety but she was not able to move muscle. She was bleeding and knew for a fact that her child would not survive even if a miracle happened and she survived. She has lost her mate and unborn child and she knew that she would be joining soon. Her only prayer was that her daughter should be safe.
Her vision became blurry as she fought to stay conscious hearing her daughter crying and begging for her to get up. She didn't want to leave her daughter in a place like this. In the hands of these spiteful creatures.
Stretching out her hand for Kora which she gladly took, she pulled her and hugged her. Covering her from the eyes and claws of the creatures with her body. As long as she still had a little consciousness left in her, she would protect her daughter to the very last second.
"Kora sweety!" she called. Her voice was barely louder than a whisper. "Mommy and Papa love you very much, okay?" she said and Kora nodded against her chest. She could hear her mother clearly because she was talking right next to her ear.
"Mommy and Papa will always be up in the sky among the stars watching you, okay?" she said again. Kora was quiet for a little while contemplating her mother's words in her little head. After some seconds she shook her head and said, "No Mommy, I want you and Papa to be here with me not in the sky. I can't reach and touch you if you are up there."
"I know baby, mommy, and Papa will love that too, but you see, things are not the same anymore," she explained.
"Will anyone hurt you while you are up there?" Kora asked, she didn't want her Mommy and Papa hurt.
Her mother chuckles lightly. Even in a situation like that her daughter was still worried about her and her father getting hurt and not about herself. "No sweety, no one will hurt us up there," she replied.
"Then take me up there too. I want to be with you and Papa. Don't you and Papa want me anymore? " Kora said pushing lightly against her mother so she could look at her face. She buried her face back in her mother's chest when caught a glimpse of those bad people in fright.
She waited in her mother's arms for an answer but it never came. She was too weak to speak. She had lost too much blood and her consciousness was slowly slipping away from her. All she could do now was hold on to her daughter for comfort and pray silently that someone would come and save her.
Someone came over to them and forcefully yanked her arms away and took her daughter leaving her on the dirty ground with blood and dirt all over her. They did not bother with her because they knew no miracle could save her now. She could hear her little girl crying and heard the sound of a harsh slap ringing across her ears and the cries stopped immediately. She knew that it was her daughter who was slapped. Her heart sank even more at the knowledge.
A single tear rolled down her cheeks and cursed herself for not being able to protect her daughter. She prayed to the moon goddess to save her daughter.
As if her prayers were answered, she heard a loud growl coming from a direction that she was not sure of, this growl did not sound like what she had heard before but felt relieved nonetheless. Soon her consciousness faded away and darkness welcomed her.
A black beast leaped forward and attacked the man who was holding the little girl and soon others joined in. Within a few minutes, all that was left standing was little Kora who was a crying mess, and the black beast that saved her and the two people that came with him.
Kora ran back to her mother as she called, "Mommy! Mommy, you can stand up now, we're safe." Not getting any response from her mother, she cried even more as fear gripped her harder and she yelled.
"Mommy please wake up."
