Little Kora cried her eyes out as she watched her mother's unmoving body, no matter how much she shook her mother, she would not wake up which made her cries get even louder as time passed slowly.
The black wolf that saved her walked away into the woods and a man with dark hair and dark brown eyes came out shortly after and knelt in front of Kora and pulled her away from her mother. After his return, his two companions left as well to shift and get changed. They didn't want to shift and stand naked before a little girl.
The man pulled her away and close to himself as he held both of her tiny hands in his large ones and made her look at him. He looked at her wordlessly, he did not know what to say to her. Heck, he didn't even know why he came to save her, there was something about her that pulled him to her.
The pull was so strong that it was almost as strong as the mate bond. She could not be his mate. He has his mate. What was it about her that pulled him so strongly?
"Stop crying," he said to Kora. He tried to sound stern but ended up sounding like a plea to the little girl. Kora couldn't care less about that, she had lost everything. She lost both her Mommy and Papa in one day.
She may be little, but she knew what death was. I meant that she won't be seeing them ever again and that broke her little heart to pieces.
"Stop crying or you will get sick." the man said to her as if what he said had gotten to her, her cries paused for a moment as if contemplating. Then she said, "I won't fall sick," and started crying all over again.
Frustrated, he stood up from his kneeling position and stares at the girl. "How do you know you won't fall sick?" he asked her.
"I just know," Kora replied. "How do you know I will fall sick?"
"Because that is the way it is," he answered as he looked at the little girl who was now wiping her cheeks to clean her tears. "What is your name?"
Kora raised her head and looked at him and then said, "First, you are wrong that is not the way it is. Two, why do you want to know my name? I don't know yours."
The man looked at her indifferently. "I am Lazarus, now what is your name?" he asked and the two people who were playing the role of the spectators looked at him with weird expressions.
"Is that your real name?" she asked and a simple "yes" was all he gave to her. "I am Kora."
"Good, you are coming with us," Lazarus said and turned around to walk away.
"No. " Kora said, firmly.
"Are sure you are five years old? " one of the men with Lazarus asked, squinting his eyes as he looked at the girl." You don't sound like one."
"Lazarus, Why should I go with you?" Kora asked, ignoring the other man completely.
"You will die if you stay here alone," Lazarus replied. Kora gasped as soon as she heard him.
"True, but where are you taking me?" She asked.
"To my pack. " Lazarus answered, curtly.
"Which one?" Kora asked again.
"Why so many questions little girl, do you prefer staying here to die?" the second man asked. They were getting really tired and fed up with the little girl and her questions. Though she looked little, she sounded like an old and annoying person in their ears. They did not even know why Lazarus cared about her. She was plain annoying.
"What difference does it make if I follow you to a place that I don't know and die there?" she retorted.
"You little...." before he could he was interrupted.
"Blood moon pack," Lazarus said. Kora snapped her head towards him with a frown.
"Papa said I should not go there," Kora said as she looked at Lazarus. "Is that your pack?"
"Your papa taught you well. Now, come let's go." Lazarus said as he started walking away from her. The two other men did the same while Kora tried walking but her legs felt numb. "I can't walk," she said with a pout." My legs are tired."
"Were you not the one crying here without being tired?" the second of the two men who spoke to her before, asked her.
"I have been running before that so of course, I will get tired. What do you think I am?" Kora asked.
"You.... "
"Raven!" Lazarus called stopping him from arguing more with her. "That is enough. Now pick her up we need to leave and not overstay our welcome here."
Raven winced as he heard the order to carry the little girl. "Why should I pick her up? Why should it be me?"
On the other hand, Kora did not want to be touched by him at all and she hurriedly said, "I can walk." and started running with obviously painful steps to stand beside Lazarus. "I don't want him to touch me. He is weird," she said and Raven glared at her in annoyance.
"Can you shift?" Lazarus asked.
"No, I can't shift I have no Wolf," Kora replied. "Mommy said she will come soon, though."
"Let Ezra carry you, we will move faster that way," Lazarus said.
"Okay, I will let him carry me even though he looks funny." and raised her hands in front of Ezra asking to be carried. He bents a little and carries her.
"Why are you bringing her with us?" Raven asked Lazarus after he matched his step with his. "We should just kill her, she doesn't even have a wolf."
"No." Came Lazarus's rejection. "You will not harm her, do you understand?" he asked, looking sternly at Raven. "There is something about her, I am not sure yet, but I intend to find out."
Raven glanced at the girl who was now asleep in Ezra's arms with a frown and turned again. "How long will it take for you to find out what it is? Whatever it is will only truly show if she has a wolf but she doesn't."
"It doesn't matter, I will find a way," Lazarus said.
