Chapter 6 - A Strange Dream

On a rainy night, the sound of thunder was crackling in the dark sky. The raindrops were falling heavily onto the ground.

A woman was seen running with a small child in her arms in the heavy rain. She entered a narrow alley nearby.

There was another woman in that alley who was hiding in a blind spot. As soon as she saw the other woman entering the alley with the child in her arms, she called out to her and pulled her into the blind spot.

The woman with the child in her arms looked at the child reluctantly, as if it was the last time she was going to see it. The two women talked for a short while, then the woman with the baby handed the small child to the other woman. The pain and agony in her eyes as she did so were so vivid that it couldn't be overlooked no matter what.

Amayah Young abruptly opened her eyes, her heartbeat a little more elevated than normal.

The morning sunlight shone in from the slight gap in between the curtains, right on to the side profile of her face, highlighting her fair skin. She had a lost look in her eyes as she blankly stared at the space in front of her.

She took a deep breath to calm herself down.

It was that strange dream again about the unknown woman and the child. She could not understand if it was a dream or a past memory.

In that cold, dark, and silent night, the woman was handing the baby to another person. The look of anguish in the woman's eyes while looking at the baby in the other person's arms; she could just not forget that. This is not the first time she's had this dream. She didn't even know that woman, nor the child from the dream, but every time she had the dream she would vividly remember the boundless love in the other woman's eyes as she looked at the baby, even after she woke up. It was as if she could just feel it right through the dream and into reality. She just couldn't figure it out.

Suddenly, the sound of her morning alarm took her mind away from the dream. She turned toward the bedside table and took the phone, turning off the annoying sound of the alarm. She looked at the screen of the phone and it was 7:00 in the morning.

She yawned and threw off her comfy blanket, getting off the bed. Putting on her slippers, she stepped onto the cold floor and headed straight to the bathroom.

A while later, she stepped out wearing a white eyelet embroidered puffy sleeved crop shirred top paired with tight-fitting black jeans. She dashed into the kitchen and chugged a glass of warm milk, then rushed out of her dorm, grabbing her nude-colored sling bag and putting on her pink Polo assn sneakers.

She was thinking deeply about something seemingly lost in her own world as she walked down the sidewalk. She had that look of helplessness on her face.

When she came onto the main street and was about to cross the road and walk on straight, she noticed a small, cute puppy running on the other lane of the main street on her left side. The light had already turned green and the traffic was about to move forward on that side, and the puppy was so small that the drivers of those cars might not even be able to see it from inside the car.

Worried about the puppy, she ran forward, ignoring the angry horns of the traffic, and picked up the cute little guy from the ground into her arms.

Unbeknownst to her, someone was watching her every move and expression from inside a car, observing her.

"Old Master."

It was none other than Old Master Emerson, inside a luxurious car amidst the traffic, watching Amayah, thinking deeply about something.

It was the day on which Old Master Emerson was to be discharged. They had just come out of the hospital and were on their way home to the Old Mansion when Assistant Jin noticed his indifferent old master looking out the window observing something.

Seeing this, he follows his old master's line of sight and notices a young girl walking back to the sidewalk from the middle of the road with a little dog in her arms. He was confused at first, but then he looked closely at the young girl's face, and then it dawned on him that he had previously seen this girl's face. It was the same girl who saved his old master on the day of the accident.

"Didn't you say that this young lady was struggling financially?"

Hearing this, he instantly replied, "Yes, old master, she is going to be in college, but she is having trouble paying for her college fees since she has no family to support her."

Assistant Jin was confused by this question, but then he thought that his old master might want to reward her for saving his life on that day.

Old Master Emerson kept observing her in the side mirror even after the car went past her. She was playing with the puppy in her arms with a sweet smile on her face.

Despite her difficulties, she was smiling.
