A splitting headache woke me up from my uncomfortable sleep. I found myself in my room which I couldn't recall getting into last night. I tried getting up and organizing my thoughts. That was when it hit me.
The realization that I kissed my best friend, but as if that was not enough, I wanted more than just a kiss. Jadon surprisingly didn't resist. I, at the very least, wanted him to slap and tell me I was drunk. I was, but that was never an excuse for my actions. Even his crying face gave me a hard on. This is very wrong.
The urgent thing was how was I going to face him now. I don't think friends kiss and call it a day. I couldn't think straight with the headache I was having. I rose and found hangover relief medicine and a bottle of water on the side of my bed. I took it while checking my clock. It was almost midday.
I remember today was an important event. I was burying my mother this evening. I didn't have many thoughts on it.
I went to the kitchen where I found Jadon with a cup of coffee and working on his laptop. I approached him to see what he was doing. He had dark circles as if he hadn't slept at all. He was still in his pajamas. I went and hugged him from behind. He didn't say anything. I rarely got to see him this quiet, it was concerning as it was interesting.
I looked at the screen to see what he was looking at so intently. The news report of the day. It mentioned a company I knew of all too well. I was in my uncle's management sector. The news mentioned that they did a tax evaluation and overall management and maintenance of the company. Of course, the results were obvious.
The company was guilty. The discovery of illegal businesses set fire to the flames. The government decision was to confiscate a percentage of the property if not spend years in prison. My prideful uncle's choice was also obvious. I was satisfied with the results. I don't think he would be welcomed to the main family anymore, not when he made such a loss and ruined the family's reputation.
I only realized that the whole time Jade had been staring at me. I couldn't help but feel embarrassed.
"What do you think? Have they suffered enough?" The sudden question caught me off guard.
"Who? Uncle? Then no. I'll take care of him soon enough." I responded.
"If you say so." He seemed uninterested afterwards.
Sheesh! Jadon's mood swings were no joke.
"Didn't you get to sleep yesterday?" I was curious.
"No. I was working on something and by the time I was done it was morning. I couldn't let you wake up to no one, now, could I?" It made me more guilty.
"I see. Will you go with me to some place in the evening?" 'Let's keep the conversation going.' I repeated in my head over and over again.
"Yes." He responded.
"The funeral is today. I wanted you to attend with me." I finally explained.
"If you'll have me."
"Totally. Thanks bud." Jade was the best.
"Yeah. I'll take a nap, so wake me up before it's time."
"Kay."
