Chapter 40 - Chapter 40

Deep beneath the earth of Numen's Garden just below his mansion at the peak resides a large golden crystal, about the size of a large bus. Within that very crystal the once guardian of the Village of Lost Souls, Loe's, physical form was entrapped. Completely immobilized the only thing he could do was look out upon the dark room before him that he'd been placed within by Numen. His white eyes glowing bright as his soul called out for the last usher. Feeling that the usher was still within his control he pushed his connection to it further then he had ever gone before.

On the other end the little usher could read the directions from its master loud and clear. Getting up from where it had been napping on the rocks it made its way across the ground. Little body climbing up on top of Tyson's broad chest it gazed down at him. Entire body lighting up in a white glow it stood there. Below the small usher Tyson's body began to envelop in his own white light from head to toe.

From nearby a small blue orb floated in the direction of the usher. Pausing in front of it the usher seemed to stare the wandering soul down in silence. As if communicating with it the orb hesitated at the gaze of the little fox. Its blue eyes leaning in towards the orb as its nose gently tapped against the soul with care.

Beginning to land slowly with guidance from the usher the small blue orb was placed gently against Tyson's sleeping chest. Sinking down into his chest it evaporated into him. Sending a cold sensation throughout his body his mouth slowly opened. Exhaling a soft white cloud from his breath as he shivered just slightly.

The glow falling away from the both of them, they began to return to normal. Jumping from Tyson's chest onto the rocky ground the fox glanced back at him. Its long ears pinned back as its long whiskers blew about the breeze. Fulfilling the wish of its master it could return to its own rest.

Climbing up on top of Chi the usher curled itself into a ball. Wrapping its tail around itself it closed its eyes and began its nap once more. Listening to its surroundings carefully to ensure that no one had noticed its actions. It could still hear the calm voice of its master, Loe, on the other end.

Thank you. You've done well, my friend. I can not do much from my end but this old fool ain't completely worthless yet. Loe thought to himself. His eye slowly sweeping across the crystal in front of him until it landed on a faint crack in the crystal. If he could move he probably would have burst out laughing at how humorous he found it.

"Looking at you now almost saddens me.. Do you have any idea how long I've allowed you to walk about? I've certainly lost track. I never would have expected you of all people to disobey. Even my mansion's staff don't dare disrespect me so badly." Numen said as he walked over to the large crystal to stare at Loe. His long white hair dragging on the floor with each step.

"He can't respond so why are you trying to ask him questions?" The spectator asked as he kept his distance. Never being able to understand why Numen did things the way he had he could only stand back. Knowing well that if he tried to step in too far it would only end badly for himself.

"You think I don't know that about my own fuel?" Numen glared back at the spectator for a moment before returning his gaze onto the crystal that held Loe. Faintly laughing at the man in front of him being slowly drained away for the sake of his garden.

"I never did understand why you use them in such a manner." The spectator thought out loud. Being a lower god himself he knew the truth was Numen did not need to use the souls of the dead in order to power the dimension. He was powerful enough to run it purely in a cleaner manner if he desired to do so.

"I do it because I enjoy it. What other reasons do I need to justify myself?" Numen laughed loudly in front of them.

Clattering could be heard as the young girl walked in and dropped the tray of food she had been holding. She was use to seeing the large crystal but it was a first for her to see a soul have an actual physical form within it. Shaking she hurried to pick up her things that had scattered about the floor. She knew if she wasted too much time Numen would get angry with her.

"Worthless human." Numen muttered under his breath as he walked over to her. Coldly staring at her as he continued. "Pick it up quickly and remake it or you'll be the next one I turn to fuel."

Tears began to fill her eyes as she watched the god leave the room. Wiping her eyes dry she hurried to continue the clean up. She could hear the sounds of silent footsteps approaching her. Reaching out to quickly grab a piece of broken plate she found a hand halting her action. Lifting her eyes to see who it was her eyes locked onto the spectator's.

"He's not in the room anymore. If you rush too quickly you'll only hurt yourself." He said in a calm manner to the violet haired girl.

"Y-Yes.." She stuttered out a response to him.

Standing back up straight the spectator looked down at her a bit longer as she cleaned. She was not sure what he was looking at her for but the look in his eyes only made her wonder if he was simply pitying her. Being a god that watched over Numen only could make her expect him to be just as heartless as the one she was forced to serve under. As he walked away from the room she finished cleaning up and walked over to the large crystal. Looking up at Loe with tear filled eyes as she knew Numen would really put her in there if she did not do as he said.

Wanting to break the crystal she repeatedly hit her balled up fists against it. No matter how hard she hit it she could not leave a mark. Not even the man trapped inside of it could respond to her. She was not even sure whether or not Loe was dead or alive because she was not use to seeing anyone inside of it. There was no way for her to know if he was a living man or a spirit. She was only aware that he was being tortured just as she and many others were by the god.

"Tyson.." The girl cried out the name of the one person she desperately wanted to see again.

Tyson.. Loe repeated the name in his mind as he knew who she must be speaking of. His pupil-less white gaze slowly shifted back onto the crack in the crystal. The crack slowly enlarged a bit more.
