Chapter 10: Mark vs Abomination (2)
"Oh, you mean Abomination, right?"
Hearing Nick Fury's words, Mark instantly remembered the plot of the Hulk movie. "You mean that soldier, Blonsky? The one who saw the Hulk and decided he wanted to be a monster too?"
"You seem to know a lot," Nick Fury said, giving Mark a hard look. Fury was a man of secrets, and he didn't like being around someone who seemed to know everything.
He had a feeling Mark might even know about his secret research on the Tesseract.
"I don't think the military can handle this thing."
As if reading Fury's mind, Mark said, "You've got way better tech here than the military. You're not really going to just sit back and watch, are you?"
"...The military's coming up with a plan," Nick Fury said, glancing at Mark. "They're thinking about releasing the Hulk to fight this... Abomination, as you call it. But frankly, I don't have much faith in those military guys."
"So, if the military fails, can I step in?" Mark asked with a grin. "You're probably not willing to use those energy weapons just yet, right?"
"You know about that!"
Fury's one eye narrowed. He could let some things slide, but the Tesseract was important. "Who are you? What do you want?"
"I told you, I'm just your friendly neighborhood Stand user."
Mark rolled his eyes. "If I wanted the Space Stone, I would have dug my way down there and taken it already. Why would I wait?"
Mark wasn't kidding. He didn't know the exact location of the S.H.I.E.L.D. base, but he had the mini-map module. It had a cave-finding radar, and Nick Fury's underground lab for the Tesseract was huge. If Mark got close enough, it would show up on his map.
"The Space Stone? What's that?" Fury looked surprised. "Is that another name for the Tesseract?"
"If you don't trust me, why should I tell you?" Mark said dismissively.
"If things get out of hand, I can let you intervene, but only to contain the damage and protect civilians," Fury said. "But first, you have to tell me what you know about the Tesseract."
"It's actually called the Space Stone... and there are at least five more like it in the universe."
Mark clapped his hands together. "Okay, I'm done talking. By the way, aren't we there yet? Sounds like things are already getting crazy down there."
The helicopter was approaching Broadway now. They could see flames and smoke billowing into the sky from blocks away. People were running and screaming. They could hear gunshots and explosions in the distance. The military was already fighting, but it was hard to see what was happening through the smoke and debris.
Suddenly, an armored vehicle burst out of the smoke and crashed into a storefront with a loud bang.
"You said there are five more Space Stones?"
Fury frowned. "You called it a Space Stone. Does that mean it can teleport things? Open portals? Attract aliens...?"
But before Fury could finish his sentence, Mark vanished from his seat.
"Damn it!" Fury cursed.
Mark wasn't going to waste time arguing with Fury when there was a fight about to go down.
He used the Ender Hand's teleportation ability to get off the helicopter. He reappeared on a nearby rooftop, closer to the action.
From his vantage point, Mark could see the chaos below. People were running and screaming, cars were honking and crashing, and a huge yellow-green figure was smashing its way through the streets. Cars and people were being thrown aside like ragdolls. It was a terrifying scene.
Seeing it in person, Mark realized that Abomination was even more brutal than in the movie.
He wasn't just angry like the Hulk. He was cruel. Soldiers and police officers were trying to hold him back, to protect the civilians, but their bullets were just bouncing off his thick skin.
Abomination casually grabbed a soldier and ripped him in half. The soldier was still alive, screaming in agony as blood and guts splattered everywhere. Abomination just grinned.
This was the real Abomination.
A terrifying monster who enjoyed destruction.
Two soldiers fired rocket launchers at Abomination. The rockets whooshed through the air, heading straight for him.
But Abomination just reached up and caught the rockets in his hands. He squeezed, and there was a huge explosion. Flames engulfed him for a moment, then died down. Abomination was completely unharmed.
"Hehehe..."
He sneered at the soldiers. Then, in a flash, he charged forward, moving with the force of a runaway truck. Cars and debris flew through the air as he ran. The soldiers, terrified, reversed their armored vehicle and tried to get away.
It was clear that Abomination wasn't even trying that hard.
He was enjoying his power, toying with the soldiers like a cat with a mouse.
He'd kill them when he got bored.
The soldiers' armored vehicle got stuck in traffic.
Abomination grinned and stomped on a nearby taxi, flipping it over. He picked up the car with both hands and yelled at the camera on the front of the armored vehicle, "Come on! Bring me someone who can actually fight!"
Then he hurled the car towards them.
But suddenly, there was a flash of purple light.
"Are you sure about that?"
A voice echoed through the street, and the car stopped in mid-air.
Abomination was stunned. Then, to his surprise, the car flew back towards him, the tires slamming into his face.
Just as the car hit Abomination, there was a buzzing sound, and a swarm of purple particles exploded in front of him. A figure materialized out of thin air.
"Someone who can actually fight is here."
Mark's calm voice cut through the chaos.
