Realizing that his only means of staying on this plane longer wasn't helping, he felt the urge to hit something. The system had been clear with the explanation, would why was this happening itself. The fact that it said he had levelled up made him believe this was like all those arcade video games teenagers would usually play. Although the rise in energy was a good thing, his time limit was still the same.
[Now that Host has become a Level 2 Undead, a new feature has been unlocked]
[Energy Pocket is a feature which allows you to assign as much energy you would need to remain in the living realm]
[Energy Pocket: N/A]
Reading the messages, Jim had gotten the just of it. By thinking of what he wanted to do, he was able to assign all his energy points into the feature.
Now, there was the issue of getting more time. The new feature didn't seem like a waste of a kill, since there were still two living boys present at the scene. Turning to face them, Jim noticed the other bully had started to run away, fortunately, he didn't go far, as a blade to the head had knocked him to the ground. Retrieving the knife, he proceeded to slay the innocent boy, before checking and assigning all his energy points into his Energy Pocket.
[Energy Pocket: 54]
This still wasn't enough. Walking further down the street, Jim had stumbled upon the Shadow Gang once again. This time, there were only five members present. It was still unclear what they were doing, but he didn't care too much about that.
Moving closer, he got ready to strike. Although the members carried flashlights, he was confident in his strength to ambush them off one after the other, and that he did. These appeared to be novice members sent on a scouting mission. It was normal for gangs to send out their weakest links to survey the area, before reporting back so the more power member can carry on with the gang's operations.
[A gang member has been killed]
[Due to himself not being a civilian, you will receive double energy points]
[100]
[100]
[100]
[100]
[100]
[Energy Pocket: 501]
It was already five in the morning, yet Jim wasn't making much progress.
[There is a faster way through which you can aquire points]
Jim felt that inch once again.
[Would you like me to show you?]
Frustrated, Jim replied yes.
It wasn't long since he had experienced time travel, but the rewards were good, so he assumed this would be the same. As his surroundings began to distort, he found himself in what he could only describe to be a dungeon.
There was a perpetual furnace blazing at the centre, blood marks on the floor and walls, and the pungent smell of rotten flesh. It it wasn't for him being an undead, he wasn't sure how he would have managed to hold in his stomach.
[As an Undead, there are many ways you can grow stronger, and one of those ways is by eating rotten flesh. However, eating the flesh of normal beings wouldn't do you much if you wish to gain more energy at a faster rate
[So here, you can both kill and consume the flesh of these creatures without generating much suspicion]
Jim had to admit that the system seemed to be thinking two steps ahead of him. Brandishing his kitchen knife, he took a battle stance, ready for whatever creature would appear trying to attack him. Although he found everything going on questionable, he didn't want to add his existence to the count so he zeroed his mind focusing only on the creature walking towards him.
There was only one. It had the appearance of the extinct sabertooth tiger on Earth, however, its skin glowed dark red along with its eyes. Dark mist would constantly come out of its nostrils, and lava dripped down from its mouth.
Normally, Jim would feel frightened upon witnessing something he would call a demon, but he status as an undead had nullified most of his emotions, giving him enough will power to face the demon.
During his time in school, he would constantly have to defend himself against boys twice his size by himself. Although he would mostly get beaten up, it had helped him hone his basic fighting skills to a good degree, allowing him not only to kill three people, but also allowed him to maneuver around the sabertooth demon.
Running in circles, his goal was to slowly cover the gap between he and the creature. However, the sabertooth demon didn't just stay out. Growling loudly, its voice bounced off the walls of the dungeon, shaking the room slightly, but Jim hadn't lost his focus. The creature then aimed to slice at the moving figure with its claws. Raising its front right paw, it performed a diagonal sweeping motion, only to miss by a few inches. It was clear the creature had some intelligence as it waited for Jim to be at a certain distance before choosing to strike. He was only able to realize this through his improved perception.
The furnace blazed profusely, releasing more smoke and heat into the fairly large room. Jim had no idea just how strong the demon was, but he had to consider the fact that the system had his best interest at heart. Why would it send him to his doom after helping him all this time?
Running towards the demon, he held the blade close to his chest, ready to slash at the creature's neck, while the demon raised its body, standing on its hibdkwgs ready to slam both its front legs down on the moving figure reducing him to nothing but mashed flesh and grinded bones.
However, Jim realized what was going just in time as he swiftly changed direction, going behind the creature as both its front paws slammed against the ground. A massive shockwave was produced that created a continuous crack across the floor, as well pieces of the ceiling began to fall down.
While the creature had its guard down, Jim used this opportunity to strike. Wasting no time, he got closer as he unleashed the blade against the creature's hide, splashing blood against his face and everywhere else, mixing in with the blood on the walls and the floor.
The demon screamed in pain as its body shook violently. Knowing full well he couldn't contest against the creature's strength, he let go of the knife, leaving it buried deep in the demon's behind as blood continuously oozed out of the stab wound.
It wasn't long until the creature's movements became sluggish, and once he realized this, he approached it carefully, pulling out the blade before beheading it to ensure it was truly dead. Not long after, a set of messages appeared, explaining that he had killed a Level 1 Demon, and the corresponding rewards for making the kill.
[Congratulations, you have killed a Level 1 Demon]
[Energy Points: 1000]
[Energy Pocket: 1492]
Jim was surprised by the fruits of his labour. He felt proud of himself for accomplishing such a feat, however, now wasn't the time for celebrating, as his surroundings suddenly changed, and he found himself in the open streets of Memph once again. Everywhere appeared to be dimly lit, making it clear it was nearly six in the morning. Not caring about assigning his energy points, he quickly made his way back home. Washing and placing back the blade in the kitchen cupboard, he then realized something.
He didn't seem tired after all that had happened. It seemed like being undead also meant he no longer required sleep, which he considered to be a good thing as he no longer had to do long loosing battles with one of his greatest enemies known as sleep.
Since the three murders which took place this morning couldn't he tracked down to him, he had nothing else to worry about for the next two days as he went about preparing for the day ahead of him.
Looking at his reflection in the mirror, he noticed a few district changes. For one, the injury over his right eye had been healed, but not only that, his skin appeared far clear than it was before. All the scars and blemishes on his skin had been wiped out, making him look dashingly handsome as he stared at his face in the mirror. He couldn't even believe it was him, but what other choice did he have?
