The sound of the police's siren woke her up from her sleep.
Yang Ran looked around the place as the tragedy from last night reappeared in her mind. A faint sigh escaped her. She had not thought that she would be able to fall asleep after everything that happened.
She turned to her left and stared at Alice's sleeping face. Her heart was aching when she saw the tear marks on Alice's cheek. The girl continued to mumble in her sleep. Yang Ran wondered if the girl was having a nightmare.
Yang Ran stretched her hand to pat Alice's shoulder gently. Slowly, the girl stopped mumbling and her breathing turned even.
A faint smile turned on her lips.
Yang Ran woke out of bed and walked over to the window.
From where she was standing, she could see a few police cars passing by slowly.
A few people died last night. The police were probably patrolling the area to make the street safe.
Seeing that it was almost time for the sun to come out, Yang Ran walked into the bathroom to freshen up. Then, she wrote a note for Alice before she go out to look for their breakfast.
Yang Ran did not dare to go that far. She stopped at the first shop she found and brought back some breakfast for both of them.
She did not know if the food would suit Alice's appetite. But they could only make do for now.
As she waited for her order, Yang Ran looked around the street and saw that there were a few more policemen both uniformed and plain-clothed patrolling the area.
A deep frown appeared on her face upon realizing that there were a few military men around the area as well. She did not expect that last night's incident to get so big. Or could it be that there was something else that she did not know about?
Yang Ran lowered her head and tried to stay low.
When she returned to their room, Yang Ran pushed the door and saw that Alice was pointing a gun at her.
Seeing that it was a face that she recognized, Alice lowered the gun and heaved a sigh. "Sorry. I thought you were someone else. I didn't see you around. I got scared."
Yang Ran entered the room and closed the door behind her. "You're awake. That's good. Let's have our breakfast. Then, we can leave this place and figure out what we want to do next."
Alice put the gun back on the side table where Yang Ran had left her note. Then, they both sat on the musky carpet to eat their breakfast.
"Where did you buy this food?" Alice asked. She took out the scallion pancake from the paper bag and her stomach began to rumble. "The food smelled delicious."
"I didn't dare to go too far. I bought these pancakes from the first shop I saw," Yang Ran said. "Have a taste."
Yang Ran reached for the cup of hot coffee as she watched Alice take a bite of the pancake. Her lips turned into a smile when she saw that Alice seemed to be enjoying the food.
"Rachel, this is delicious." Her eyes lit up.
"Then, eat a little more," Yang Ran said. Seeing that Alice seemed to have regained herself made her relieved.
The two of them continued to eat their breakfast in silence. Once they have eaten their fill, Yang Ran gathered the paper bag and tossed them into the basket.
When she turned around again, Alice had her head low as she drank her coffee.
"Rachel, what are we going to do now?"
"Let's head over to the cyber cafe and see if we can find out anything from the footage."
"Alright." Alice nodded. She drank her coffee before she stood up, wanting to walk over to the bathroom to get change. However, her steps halted and she turned around to look at Yang Ran again.
"What's wrong?" Yang Ran asked when she saw that the girl has been hesitating for a long time.
Alice turned again. "Rachel, I've been thinking about what happened. Something is wrong. Even if our organization might make a few enemies, it shouldn't be easy for someone to pass our security and just kill everyone around. There are some traitors in our organization, right?"
Yang Ran pursed her lips. "This is what I thought too."
Her face turned gloomy.
Alice and her team was the person in charge of the security around their headquarter in F Country. She knew the security system well. If it was not because someone had betrayed them, there would be no way that their enemy would be able to harm them easily.
The thought that someone from her team had betrayed them made her heart heavy.
If she finds out who was that person, she will not hesitate to cut that person into pieces and feed them to fish.
The two leave the hotel and headed to the nearest cyber cafe. Yang Ran opted for a small cubicle away from the security camera before she let Alice sit down and do her work.
The moment Alice sat down, her fingers began to work her magic.
"The computer's spec isn't that great," Alice said. "It will probably take some time before we can look at the footage again."
Yang Ran nodded. "Just take your time." She did not understand much about computers and could only let the girl do her work.
Alice continued to tap her fingers rapidly on the keyboard. Because she was not familiar with this computer, there are a lot of things for her to do first.
It took her more than an hour before she could enter their storage memory in F Country.
"We're in." Alice moved aside to make space for Yang Ran.
Yang Ran slid into the space and wore her headphone. The moment Alice pressed the play button, Yang Ran began to watch everything closely.
These were the footage that she had watched yesterday. Seeing her brothers and sisters die again made her heart wrenched. This time, rather than feeling afraid for everyone, her heart was burning with hatred.
In the end, they did not get much useful information from the footage.
However, this confirmed what both Yang Ran and Alice had in mind. Someone from Alice's team had betrayed everyone else.
