Chapter 23 - 22. Who could have done it??...

>>>Rookie's POV<<<

You know how hard it is to jog and breathe at the same time? Yeah, it's extremely hard. Almost as hard as trying to breath from your mouth while sticking your tongue out, it's just hard. That's exactly how I always feel when I'm in the same car with my Super-Sexy Goddess-looking Captain Empress.

And that is exactly how I'm feeling now. It's just so hard to focus and drive when we are in such a tight space. I try not to stare, but she keeps pulling my gaze, and all she's doing is just sitting there quietly.

Her perfection coupled with my imperfections would just be a great combination. I'm just hoping and holding on till that day when she will finally see me in that light.

"What are you doing?" she asks, snapping me out of my daydreams. "Ma?" I raise my brows at her wondering what she was talking about.

"You just passed the building?" she says. "Kents Tech... You just passed Kents Tech." She repeats, and I look at the navigation on the screen, and... "OH!!, I'm sorry ma'am, I'm so sorry. I didn't..."

"Rookie, if you keep this up, I'd have to send you somewhere else." She threatens. Of course it broke my heart to hear her say this, I know she wasn't kidding. I'm just her junior, she could replace me any day anytime with someone else... I just... I just hoped that she... *Sigh*

"I'm really sorry ma'am." I simply say, driving up front a little before turning the car around. I parked in the right spot, and she instantly jumps out of it, with me tailing behind her as usual.

"Yes ma'am? What's your business here?"

"PCPD" She flashes her badge at the security guard, he clearly eyed her from her head down to her boots. I really didn't like the way his lips twitched as he eyed her. He let's her in.

"PCPD" she flashes her badge to thee receptionist. "Gordon Richards, Head of Department X got into an accident, I need to ask some questions." she simply says, clearly not in thee mood to say more.

"31st floor." Thee receptionist obviously got the memo, as she didn't ask any further questions.

Tirelessly following behind her, we go all the way up to the 31st floor, the elevator ride was a lot more exhausting today, so I was thankful to God when the door flew open.

Matching into the department like she naturally owned the place, she was her own boss where ever she stepped. Nothing intimidated her. Absolutely nothing.

"Who do I need to talk to in this place?" she asks nobody in particular, the question was more like a self-spoken opinion.

"Do you need something ma'am." a lady walks up to us and asks. "After Gordon Richards, who is the next in line?" she bluntly asks, without even the slightest intro to the lady.

"MA?" she stretches. "are you here to see someone, just tell me who you're here for and I'll..."

"PCPD" she flashes her badge, and the lady flinched in shock. "Where is your boss?" she instantly asks.

"W_W_Well he... he..." why was she faltering so much, almost like she was guilty about something.

"Miss, where is your boss?" Captain asks again, in a more stern voice this time, and the lady trembled even more...

"I swear I didn't mean to do it, I didn't mean to dk it." She suddenly burst out crying and saying some useless stuff. "I swear, I didn't mean to do it, I just couldn't help it." She begged.

"Miss, what did..."

"just let me off this once, I promise I'll never do it again." She says, rubbing her palms together. I think we'd be leaving here sooner than later, we would not even have to do so much questioning. The culprit is already confessing... Well, this is what I thought.

" I promise I'll never fart in front of him again. I swear it will never happen again." I know i was shocked, but my Captain just stood there watching her like a TV. It wasn't even close to what I'd thought.

"He had said he'd lock me away if I ever did it again, but I didn't think he'd really do it, I just really couldn't control it. I'm really sorry. Please forgive me."

"Look here, Miss..." Captain called.

"I really didn't mean to fart again, I just..."

"MISS!!" Captain yelled, drawing the attention of everyone around. The Fart lady was finally silent, and just looked at my Captain with wary eyes.

"Miss.," she sighs. "Nobody cares about your bowel issues, so just get me the person who comes after Gordon Richards in this department." She calmly says., and adds at the end. "Because even if he wanted to lock you up for your fart problems, he can't do that anymore."

"Ehn? W_What do you mean he can't do that anymore?" she faltered.

"I mean Gordon Richards is dead." Damn she could be as direct and sharp as a two-edged sword.

IN the next minutes, we had the whole department gathered in one place, we'd learnt that they were divided into two teams, A and B. She asked for the next in line to Gordon, and the two teams had their own leaders so...

"Since there is no typical assistant head..."

"What do you mean there's no assistant head?" the one who seemed like the team leader of team B says, stepping forward a bit. "I'm here. Well, there's no actual title like that in our department, but since my team is the more successful between the two of us," he points at the other team leader. That one looked rather tired of the whole thing. Probably tired of the whole life itself. But then again, there was something in his eyes, something I just could not put a pin on. Like... I don't know, but there's something weirdly strange.

"I think I can as well be called the assistant Head of the department." He ended his long story.

"okay fine. Even though I don't need you anymore." She bluntly says. "Now, like I already said, the body of Gordon Richards, or let's just say what's left of him was found this morning in his car parked in Edge of Tomorrow." they all gasped, some shocked, some just blank expressions, they mumbled and murmured.

"I need to do my job and question each and everyone of you, so your cooperation is needed." it wasn't a request, it was an order. One that neither of them was bold enough to refuse.

"So tell me, you saw Mr Richards yesterday?" we started the investigation in their meeting room.

"Yes, I really can't believe this has happened. I was with him in this office yesterday."the guy who claimed to be the next in line said. I must say, I don't like him.

"were you guys close?"

"Of course, he loved me a lot. He so much cherished me." the man said.

"is that so? Then did he tell you about any enemies? Someone who might want to hurt him? Anything? Or is there someone in particular that you feel like has a grudge against Mr. Richards?"

" Well... tsksss" he hissed... "there is one person that comes to mind..."

The other staffs that were questioned just went like this>>>

Captain: do you think there's any body who might want to hurt or harm Mr Richards in this company, this department maybe?"

Worker A: I can't really say, but there is one person...

Worker B: No, no one comes to mind...

Worker C: of course, there's only one person who has that much grudge against Mr Richards...

Worker D: Let's be honest, the man is a piece of trash, a lot of people probably wants him gone...

Worker E:. I Just started working here yesterday, so I'm not really sure.

Worker F: It's definitely that person...

Worker G: only him has that much grudge against Mr Richards...

Worker H: The one who hates Mr Richards the most? Well it has to be that person...

Worker I: No one gets insulted by Mr Richards than that person...

Worker J: Mr Richards always talked bad against him, so he's the only one who would hate Mr Richards to that extent...

About a dozen more staff members were asked and almost all of them felt the same way, and when asked who this person was, they all had the same answer...

Captain: Who is the person?

Almost All Workers: BRUCE KENT!!!
