La Rue woke to heat from the fire and heat from Thyrious's body. All at once, she felt happiness, anxiety, fear, and confusion. Happiness he was here with her and what Sven had said was true. Anxiety for the future conversation she knew they were to have. Fear of how he would react when they both settled and for what could happen if she didn't get away from him in time. And confusion at why he was here with her instead of with his pack where he should be.
She lifted her head and glanced at his sleeping form behind her. When he was awake, she saw the concern and exhaustion straining his face. Now, he was peaceful and looked younger. One of his hands rested on her back, the other in front of her. She realized her breaths would have warmed it while she was sleeping.
Not wanting to wake him, she searched for food, but found none. Her stomach growled and she scowled, then whined.
