DEVYN'S POV
Why is the rain so cold? I wrap my arms around my bare chest and rub my shivering arms. I run through the rain even though I cannot see anything until I am right in front of it. The rain is heavy and cold, so I search for a place to take refuge from the freezing element.
The faint outline of a protruding rock from a mountainside comes into view; I race towards it. I hug the back of the rock to escape the freezing rain. The rough surface opens the wounds in my back. It does not take long before the blood soaks through the already wet bandages and runs down my body.
I lean my head against the rock and catch my breath. My teeth begin to chatter as shivers run through my numb body. My rest is interrupted when a vague light appears through the heavy rain. I hold my breath as the light grows nearer. The hum of engines lets me know it is a moving vehicle. The vehicle hugs the side of the mountain so it does not get lost in the rain and quickly approaches my resting place.
I leave the shelter of the rock and run into the rain again as the light is about to come upon me. Unfamiliar with this alien planet, I run in a random direction. I think I may be running in the direction of the cave, but I am not certain, so I continue.
I spot the side of a mountain and run along it. I run for about a half mile before another light comes into view. Turning around to escape the vehicle, I stop in my tracks. To my horror, another light approaches me.
The heavy downpour masks the sounds of running footsteps. I prepare to leave the mountain as the lights grow closer. I take a step into the downpour as a figure appears in front of me through the rain. Hands grab my waist and pull me into a small cut-out I had not seen in the mountain directly behind me.
A hand is placed on my back to protect me from slamming into the rough rock while the other hand is wrapped around my waist securely. I look up to see grey eyes gazing down at me. A trail of blood stains the side of his face.
"Are you okay?" He asks.
I find myself holding onto his arms. Beads of water drip from his crimson hair. The lights pass each other outside and continue on their way.
How did he find me?
"Stay away from me!" I rip myself out of Denzyl's arms.
"Devyn-"
I rush out of the cut-out and back into the rain. I hear Denzyl chase after me, but I continue running. My feet are numb from the wet cold, and my heart is pounding. My body grows weak from loss of blood, but I do not stop.
"Devyn! Stop!" Denzyl calls after me.
Why does he sound so desperate? And why has he not caught up to me? He is a demon. He should be a lot faster and stronger. Why is he so weak? Oh..right....I stabbed him.
I do not see the edge until it is too late, and I stumble off the side of a cliff. The heavy rain beats down on me as I fall. I let out a surprised yelp as I break the surface of freezing water. My limbs become stiff as I try to swim to the surface. I try and try, but I cannot seem to break through.
A deathly cold seeps under my skin and creeps into my heart. My heartbeat slows, and my eyes close as my body stiffens until I am silently floating in the water.
Well...I guess this is it. My heart is at peace as I think of my parents. I am ready to see them again.
My thoughts of death are interrupted as a hand presses against my lower back. Another cradles the back of my head.
I open my eyes to see Denzyl holding me. His grey eyes sparkle in the clear water. A light shines behind him, surrounding him in a faint glow. Wow....he is so....
The demon pulls me closer and presses his forehead against mine. Eh? What is he doing? Denzyl closes his eyes, and warmth instantly floods my body. My body relaxes, and my eyes close as Denzyl kicks his legs and begins bringing me to the surface of the water.
