Chereads / A Game of Gods / Chapter 27 - Let There Be Chaos

Chapter 27 - Let There Be Chaos

It was in an instant. None could predict it, nor could they have stopped it from happening.

In a flash of light, a spear of lightning pierced through the demon god's heart, and reality, in its entirety, started trembling.

"liVin m' I."

Every being could hear it, from the plain of the dead to the many realms in the mortal plane and even the immortal plane. The sound of an ancient deity returning was heard, and even though the sound was incomprehensible, they all understood its meaning.

"{I'm alive}"

Everyone in the battle froze.

Alexander looked around and saw his master, Mira, shuddering and shaking in fear.

"Great master, what's wro..."

He wanted to know what was happening, but the look she shot at him was pure fear, and he lost all his words.

Then there was rumbling again, and something appeared in the center of the battlefield.

It was indescribable, it had a shape, but that shape changed continually without stopping.

Sometimes, it changed into a person with constantly shifting body parts, other times. It changed into places and concepts. Things that the brain can't even comprehend. It was pure chaos.

"{Conscious beings, I am Chaos.}"

They all felt the rumbling, and the information was fed into their brains in a truly unnatural way. It was clearer than before, though it was even less clear how they could understand it.

"{I was there at the beginning. I am the beginning.}"

The being kept communicating.

"Chaos, I am your humble servant! I resurrected you by killing the fiend who controlled your creation!"

Antony shouted at the uncanny being.

"{Boredom! I'm bored. Where are my children? I am so bored.}"

The being said and reality shook even more. He didn't even seem to note Antony's existence.

Suddenly, random soldiers gained buffs and became giant, stronger, and smarter. Their weapons became sharper, and many strange things happened out of nowhere.

Antony's troops didn't waste a second. Their attacks increased, and nothing could be done to stop them.

Mary looked around and stared at the 'being.' It was like looking at a living contradiction, and she felt like she would die from prolonged exposure, so she averted her eyes and looked the other way. She saw Shu, his fur was standing, and she could see the yellow glow of his eyes moving frantically through his mask.

He was beating all his enemies and moving with speed and precision that she had never seen him do before.

"Shu!"

She shouted at him.

He looked at her, and the glow in his eyes seemed dimmer than a moment earlier.

Then, out of nowhere, he dashed toward her and punched an enemy that almost got her from behind. The glow was completely turned off, and his eyes looked completely normal at that point.

"{I'm bored}"

A giant beam of energy landed from the sky and almost killed Mary, but Shu pushed her at the last second.

"Chaos! What is this thing?!"

Dam shouted.

"This is Chaos The First. Mine and Danny's ancestor. The first being!"

Chaos explained shortly, and now the gods' despair was finally cleared. It is an unbeatable being. A primal force beyond anything they could ever hope to comprehend.

The land around them shifted and changed continuously. It was volcanic, aquatic, field, cave, mountain, gravitationless, and whatnot.

"Chaos, Danny is out of the fight, and we can't beat him! What should we do?"

Momotaro asked. His expression was full of shame. He is a long-time rival of Chaos and always avoided fully relying on him. This was the biggest show of weakness in his life.

Chaos didn't take it much better than him. If Danny was unable to battle and Momotaro put his life in Chaos' hands, it must truly be the end times.

The fight raged on in conditions that were not conditions, the battlefield constantly shifted, and no one could rely on their powers to help them, not 'the demon god's company' and not Antony's soldiers, because the ancient deity was 'bored.' It was truly a limitless fight where one's adaptability was put to the test.

"Chaos! Why Don't you answer me?!"

Antony shouted in anger.

He stood a few meters from Mary and Shu in a direct line to Chaos The First.

Chaos The First seemed to have shifted his eyes toward Antony for less than a second and said.

"{You are boring. I'm bored.}"

A massive beam of energy was shot in that same direct line Shu, Mary, and Antony were in.

Antony's body was vaporized in less than a second, but the beam didn't stop. It continued moving forward toward the two of them.

The beam seemed to have stopped when it hit a protective shield made by Alexander.

Alexander needed to put a lot of energy and concentration into the shield and was unable to defend himself when one of the soldiers pierced him with a spear.

"Alexander!"

Shu shouted at his fallen comrade.

What can he do? He can't see the future right now. What can HE do if he cannot see the future?

The shield shattered into pieces and started evaporating.

On instinct alone, Shu put his right arm forward and punched the beam with his brass knuckle. That action could only buy him another five seconds, at most, in which they could do nothing.

Sparks flew everywhere, and he did his best to hold on.

One of the sparks flew and destroyed his mask.

He looked at Mary with a wide grin and chuckled. He recalled what Ishtar asked and looked into Mary's eyes. She really was the one he wanted to protect most.

"I guess our contract is over now."

He said, and tears started converging in his eyes.

"I want to renew it."

Mary said as tears went down her face.

A mere instant later, they both died, but what is this? She could still see things. It was as if she was looking at things through a window.

[ALL REQUIREMENTS FOR USAGE OF GOD'S PAST WERE MET]

[WOULD YOU LIKE TO PROCEED TO THE MAIN HUB? YES/NO]

Written words appeared in front of her face. And no matter where she looked, the messages didn't disappear.

"Yes?"

Mary answered. She was very confused, but she remembered that basta... No, he is dead. She should respect him at least a little. She remembered Danniel saying something about her having a gift that let her go back in time. She had to use it. She couldn't let everyone die.

She appeared at the end of a green hallway facing a wall.

"This wall is the moment when you died."

A voice from behind her said, and she turned around quickly.

It was an old man in a green suit. The shade of his clothes matched the background quite well.

"Who are you?"

She asked, still unsure of what was going on.

"I am Tempus, the greatest master of time to ever live! Chanter was only barely able to stop time, but I- I found a way to send your memories back! I am the greatest god!"

The old man claimed loudly. He looked at her and saw how desperate she was to fix everything.

"Do you want to go back and fix everything?"

"Please, I'll do anything. Just help me. Please!"

Mary bowed down, and tears started flowing out of her eyes.

"All right, no need to cry. How far back do you wanna go?"

The old man said with a caring smile that only sort of put her at ease.

"To my first meeting with Shu."

Mary answered with determination in her eyes.

"A boy, eh? Alright."

The old man said, and Mary's face turned red.

He snapped his fingers, and she fell through the floor.
