Chapter 20 - From the Train to a Boat

For three days, they waited in the cargo car. For food and water, they relied on Alexander to create it. They mostly just did simple training to pass the time while they waited for the train to reach their destination.

Mary stood on Shu's shoulders to look outside and see where they were.

"What are you seeing?"

Shu asked as he avoided looking up.

Mary jumped down and started talking.

"Okay. Everyone get ready to jump out when the train stops!"

Mary shouted to everyone to be heard over the sounds of the train.

"What did you see?"

Dam repeated Shu's question out of curiosity.

"We are almost at the station."

Mary answered.

The train started slowing down, and the moment it stopped, they jumped out.

"Azor otam!"

One of the guards at the station shouted to the others as he noticed them.

The guards who noticed them opened their hands. A ring that each one wore glowed for a moment, and then spears appeared in their hands.

The guards ran and thrust their spears at the group.

Mary unsheathed her sword and tried to cut one of the spears, but the wood was too strong to be sliced.

The spear's edge hit her sword and slid quickly toward her head. At the sight of the sharp object moving fast toward her face, she froze with fear and didn't know what to do.

"Mary, snap out of it!"

Shu shouted to her face as he jumped in front of her face and used his immense strength to break the spear by grabbing it tightly until it snapped.

She looked at him with a shocked expression, and the sight of his eyes glowing bright yellow through his mask snapped her out of her shocked state.

"Use the ancestral sword!"

Shu said as he fought the guard at a closer range.

The guard unsheathed a sword and swiped at Shu.

Still reluctant to use the ancestral sword, Mary sighed and unsheathed it.

One of the guards lifted his hand, and all the guards surrounding them jumped back, still pointing their weapons at the group.

"Shinuy safa."

The guard, with his hand up, chanted.

"Why are you here?! How do you have that sword?!"

The guard shouted at them.

They were surprised that he used their language, but they quickly realized that he was using a translating enchantment.

This guard's armor was different than the others.

He was the only one to have a shield. And on that shield, there was the Redfox symbol.

Shu stepped forward and removed his mask so the guard would see that his ears weren't a part of the mask. So the guard would recognize him as a family member.

"Whose son are you?"

The guard asked Shu as he recognized him as a member of the Redfox family.

"Can we go somewhere else? And please tell your people to stop aiming their weapons at my allies."

Shu requested, and the head guard agreed.

They entered a room in one of the buildings of the station.

"Okay, I'm Akainari Redfox. Commander of the South Sea station. Who are you?"

The guard asked.

"I'm Shual Adom of the Redfox family."

Shu answered.

"Why do you have the ancestral sword?"

The guard asked with an annoyed expression.

"The family head told me I'm the only direct descendent of the family and asked me to take the sword."

Shu answered. He was worried that a wrong answer might get them in trouble.

"How are you a direct descendent of the Redfox family if Adom is your family name?"

The guard asked with confusion.

"I was given away to the Yokai god as a tribute and raised by people outside the family. I only heard about the family more or less three years ago."

Shu answered.

"Understood."

The guard said and wrote some notes. Then, he stared at Mary for about a minute before he asked his next question.

"Why her, though? She doesn't look that good and seems reluctant to use the sword... Are you sure about your relationship?"

The guard asked Shu with the assumption she was his lover.

The other four chuckled at Mary and Shu's red faces.

"We are not in that type of relationship. The family head told me that I could give it to any one of my allies."

Shu answered, and the sight of his embarrassment made even the guards in the room chuckle.

"Why are you here?"

Akainari asked, trying not to chuckle at the pitiful scene.

"We are on our way to the new lands. And this is the closest port city to where we were."

Shu answered.

"Okay! You will pay the fees for the train ride! And I will help you get a boat. Men, go back to your jobs! I will take care of things from here."

Akainari said with a loud tone to everyone in the room.

*********

They went to the port, and Akainari paid one of the sailor teams there to bring the group to the new lands as soon as possible.

"Captain, sir. How fast can you get us to the new lands?"

Mary asked the captain of the sailors.

"How fast do you need us to get there?"

The captain asked with a smile that seemed to be asking for a challenge.

"If possible, no more than two and a half weeks."

Mary answered politely, as she didn't want to ask for the impossible.

"One and a half weeks it is!"

The captain roared excitedly, and his crew cheered.

At the pace they were going, it was clear that they would never be able to get there in such a short amount of time, but after five minutes of the boat shacking, they learned why the captain was so confident about their travel time.

The boat's speed increased, and while they couldn't see the cause, the results were evident. They will get to the new lands faster than expected.

"Hey, captain! Who are ya?"

Shí Hóu asked out of curiosity.

Not many people could own a ship that can increase its speed.

Mary, Emilia, and Alexander looked around and noticed that even the captain's crewmates seemed to be waiting for his answer.

"Me? Well, I'm just an old man."

The captain answered and chuckled a little.

While it was clear that the captain was an old man, they all felt like there was something more to him, and everyone in the audience was disappointed at his answer.

The captain was an old demon with red eyes and brown hair. He wore a typical captain's uniform and had a sword attached to his belt.

That sword looked completely normal, though even though it was unsheathed, the sword emitted unsettling vibes that no one could figure out their cause.

Alexander was uncharacteristically the first to break under his curiosity, and all the others shot surprised looks at him as he sighed and approached the captain.

Alexander summoned a sword in his hand, aimed it at the captain, and asked.

"Who are you?"

The captain shot one quick look at his opponent before he answered.

"God's sword, a gifted with no divinity nor magic, all I have is the unbeatable skills that I was born with, and no mortal can copy."

The captain sighed as he answered.

"Now, please lower your sword and wait. I don't want to use force to subdue you."

The captain added, and Alexander, who felt insulted, thrust his sword at the captain.

The captain didn't budge, but the sword was still met with resistance, and with the sound of a metallic clang, the sword was knocked to the side.

"What is this? You said you have no magic!"

Alexander protested at the inexplainable situation.

"This is what's called an inaccurate explanation of my powers."

The captain said with the same unfazed tone he had throughout this exchange.

"We will get to the new lands in a week and a half, so just wait with all your friends."

The captain said, and Alexander just went quietly back to the others. He was honestly scared of what that old captain could do.

"Yo, Alex. You know that not everyone wants to reveal their full capabilities. That's why you shouldn't go into fights so easily without thinking first. That goes for you too."

Emilia said with an amused expression. What she said was targeted at everyone in their group since too many of them are people who would probably go into a fight they cannot win based on their emotions.
