Chapter 3 - CARTER

I was struggling to free myself from the annoying woman that had decided to drag me to the boardroom like I weighed nothing.

"Get your hands off me, Crystal."

I barked with irritation, attempting to shake her off but my efforts were hopeless. Only a crazy woman can be as strong as her.

"Just one more minute. One more minute and I will happily release you. Trust me I have better things to do with my hand than laying it on you."

She said rudely but calmly, probably to sooth the insult she just threw in my face.

I scoffed. My father's love for this ill-mannered red hair has really gotten into her brain. She thinks she has the right to talk to me anyhow because my dad favours her. What does she think of herself? I see nothing but an insolent broke girl with brains that my dad picked from the slum.

"I refuse to believe that. Laying your ugly looking hand on my body must be a dream come through for you." I stated.

What girl in California doesn't want her hands on me , even if it is for a second? Manicured hands that belong to pretty models and ballerinas always struggle to hold the famous Carter Dixon.

You think I'm proud?

No I'm not. It's a known fact.

. Even the press always want a piece of me….a piece of my life for their front pages and headlines. If they are unable to do that, then they are nothing but outdated.

"I don't blame you at all Carter. Everyone on planet earth tends to talk about their greatest achievements. So, I'm guessing your body, your whoring activities and having girls all over you are yours. Feel free to boast about them sir."

Bella said, staring straight into my eyes as she finally stopped dragging me.

I was conscious of the truth that she wasn't complimenting me with those words. That was plainly an act of mockery. I sneer at her mediocre mentality.

"The five minutes he pleaded for are up because of your nonsense. How dare you put him in the position to beg his partners? I hate you to the moon and back."

Bella murmured under her breath, like I wasn't meant to hear that. Her audacity and choice of words makes my head hot. Always. She gets under my skin without effort. If I don't know better, I would say she was born to piss me off.

"That isn't for me right?" I asked to clarify.

"I'm not sure you can handle this but kindly try to look as apologetic as you can, sir. Be dramatic. You might be nonchalant but your father's neck is on the line. Please act well. We are here." She explains, ignoring my question.

"Don't tell me what to do, dummy." I shoved her out of my way and walked into the boardroom with a stern face.

My dad was about to address the obvious groans of distress but I saved him with my entrance. I scanned the room and noticed that we had guests.

Oh no. How did I forget that? A bit of me felt sorry for forgetting but the bigger part killed it immediately after I glanced at my dad's face to apologize but he wasn't looking at me. He was gazing affectionately and worriedly at Bella who was right behind me.

Of course, he doesn't care about me. He should just go ahead to adopt his stray dog. My own dad doesn't care about me but he showers his personal assistant with all the love he denied me and Bella swims in that pool of love biologically meant for me.

Usually,Personal Assistants don't have much power in the company but my dad modified the position just for Bella. She handles a lot of important stuff and projects including my dad's top secret. You want to know the next thing about Lithe Technology and my dad? Ask Bella.

I smirked wickedly. A perfect idea to punish them both dropped into my mind. She asked me to be dramatic right? I will in an amusing way. I don't care whose neck is on the line.

"Ladies and Gentlemen. Permit me to tender my heartfelt apology for keeping you all waiting for so long. Please pardon my selfish decision to tend to myself first as I got involved in a minor accident on my way to work. But not to worry, Miss Smith here volunteered to handle the presentation I was charged with to relieve me of further stress. I'm sorry and thank you for your patience."

I said, addressing the issue in my own way.

My facial expression when I said that would have made me laugh if I was staring at a mirror and I noticed Edward smith, my father's best friend shaking his head angrily at me. He of all people knows that I lied. He hates me but I like him because despite sharing the same surname with Bella, his obvious hatred for her matches mine perfectly.

I ignored the outburst that followed my speech and sat beside my dad who did a good job with his anger. I knew he was shaking with a lot of it but he calmed his nerves and smiled at Bella.

"Please save me Bella dear."

My dad's looks practically screamed for help and Bella nodded like she could also understand what he was trying to say to her. She should, after all she knows him too well.

Bella walked confidently to carry her laptop and proceeded to the podium majestically like she knew what to do. But I didn't miss the frequent tug she gave her lower lips with her teeth and her rapid breath. Serves her right for crossing me. I find pleasure in her misfortune but I won't mind getting more from her in the bedroom. Anyone's bedroom but not mine.
