Total chaos…
I watched quietly as arguments, diverse ideas and differences rose among the board members. I tried to calm everyone down but it was a futile effort.
Few hours ago, all these angry faces were smiling and clapping for a job well done by me. Crazy how agreements can change to disagreements within a twinkle of an eye, if provoked with the right words.
The devil who fed these people with the right words which was the cause of this commotion was smiling victoriously at my misery.
Carter Dixon….how I wish Aaron would give me the go ahead to strangle his son to death and save us from all our troubles and nightmares.
How could he even do this to me… to us? Shouldn't he be grateful that I aced the presentation that he failed to do? A fricking party for engineers and investors? For fuck sake, I rescued his dumb ass but he lit up a fire and dumped me right in the middle of it.
The arguments started few hours ago as a result of the stupid party Carter suggested and since then none of us have been able to put an end to this energy draining meeting. I know board meetings are meant to be full of differences but this is becoming too much for me to handle.
Aaron has suggested several ways to resolve the differences but they were of no use. Everyone was frustrated but no one was giving in.
"Refreshments are here!"
A junior colleague announced, entering the boardroom with four others that were carrying trays of goodies.
I prayed silently in my mind that May the good lord bless the person that requested for refreshments. I was thirsty, tired from standing and hungry.
"I guessed we all must be tired and thirsty, so I ordered refreshments for everyone. There is coffee and tea for those who don't fancy coffee." Carter said sweetly.
As soon as I realized that he was behind the refreshments. I took back my prayer immediately. He doesn't deserve prayers but the opposite of it befits him.
"And yes, there are snacks to satisfy our stomachs." He added with the same sweet smile which he directed to those that sided with his party idea…..that ignited anger within me.
I went back to my seat to relax for a while before we continued the discussion. Sitting face to face with Carter rattled me up the most.
"Goodluck resolving this."
Carter bent towards me as he said those words to me, winking and referring to the mess he created. The urge to slap him escalated but I dare not… not in the middle of these.
I sipped the coffee that was placed in front of me and pondered on what could be done to put a stop to the unending arguments. Think Bella, think….
I stared into Carter's mischievous turquoise eyes attentively, trying to figure out the best solution. Carter must be thinking I was obsessed with him because why else would a woman focus her gaze on a man but I didn't care. I didn't bother to avert my eyes from his.
And suddenly an idea hit me with a banging force. I smiled at him with mischief too. Two can play the game Carter and I just developed the most suitable idea to get back at him for ruining my day.
Aaron noticed the staring contest between Carter and I and he pacified me, telling me he would resolve the mess.
"You don't have to appease me Aaron. I have got the perfect idea. Trust me." I said and cover his hand with mine reassuringly.
"What's the perfect idea of yours Miss Smith? We are dying to hear it." Carter said, teasing and taunting me.
Numerous Yes was chorused supporting Carter's stunt to embarrass me further.
"I want to kill him."
I muttered under my breath enough for anyone close to me to hear. Realizing I had to save the situation as I have always done in the past, I stood to address everyone.
"Ladies and gentlemen, I greet you once again. I'm sure we all are tired as we are out of energy therefore I urge us to help me put this to an end in order to get the rest we all deserve."
I said, praying for a miracle to happen even if I haven't been to church ever since I left home for college. But thankfully, I was lucky enough to get the attention and support needed for me to continue.
"Mr Carter mentioned a party and in his own words, a relaxing engineers' alone party. I agree. We need it."
The moment 'I agree' slipped out of my mouth, Carter fans applauded and roared happily but I couldn't deny the fact that I saw the shock on Aaron's and Carter's face.
"Are you guys joking?"
Mr Edward Smith boomed, anger showing clearly in his pupil. I also didn't miss the normal fire of hatred that dances in his eyes when he focused on me.
