"Calm down Mr Smith. We can put Mr Carter in charge of the party to make sure we get the ideal engineers alone party that he described and we deserve. I can guarantee you that Mr Carter wont let us down. Right Mr Carter?"
I said, throwing the bait into his laps.
"You flatter me Mrs Smith. There are certified and qualified event planners that can take care of that. Who am I to do a better job?"
Carter replied, Laughing at my suggestion and avoiding the responsibility thinking he succeeded in shoving me off his case.
You are so wrong, silly. I just started and you just took the bait.
"That is the point Mr Carter. Event planners usually plan normal parties but you should know that an engineers alone party won't be easy for them to plan without the guidance of a certified or experienced engineer who understands what we all need to relieve stress and how to infuse work into the party without ruining the fun. Luckily for us, you are here to shoulder the responsibilities with your years of experience as a guide."
I said. I made use of compliments he couldn't beat to deny as a tool to pull in into the ocean he created for me.
Right back at you Carter.
"You are right Miss Smith. We have to have fun but we can't abandon work. Such a beautiful way to combine both my dear." Aaron said, supporting me completely.
As if they were all waiting for Aaron to say something because afterwards, the whole room accepted and settled for my idea much to Carter's dissatisfaction or can I say misfortune?
The meeting ended soon after that and I literally stuck my tongue out at Carter when I walked past him on my way to Aaron's office with Aaron himself. Childish, I know but Carter has done worse to me.
"Thank you for saving the old man butt in there Bella." Aaron said to me, complimenting me and at the same time ignoring his son who we passed by.
The relationship between the duo stunned me. How can they be so close but yet so far from each other. Aaron hardly stops talking about Carter whenever we are together but he never shows that affectionate side of his to Carter. I haven't witnessed any affection between them and I have worked with them long enough to understand it doesn't occur.
"Anything for the forever young and handsome Mr Dixon." I responded, beaming at him like he just rewarded me with a candy.
"If I didn't know better, I would have assumed you were referring to my son. He is the young and handsome Mr Dixon, you know? Aaron replied teasingly.
"I know nothing about him but what I know and you know too is the unchanging fact that I won't be able to stop my desire to strangle him one of these days."
I stated truthfully, picturing my hands around Carter's neck. I would pay millions to watch his reaction to my hands which he had once called ugly.
"Please don't kill him before I have the opportunity to, darling."
He chuckled at his own words and we both had a good laugh which echoed through the long passageway that leads to our respective offices.
"You should retire for the day Christabella. If you agree, I will have my driver take you home. You must be too tired to drive yourself." Aaron said, patting my shoulders gently.
"I'll be fine Aaron plus I can't let anyone drive my new baby. She is all mine." I replied.
I was finally buoyant enough to buy my own car thanks to Aaron. He is my life saver and I'll never forget that.
We both departed at the front of his office and I walked to mine to drop off some things and to pick others that would be going home with me.
I couldn't wait to collapse on my bed. I kept stretching my arms as I walked towards the elevator but I stopped dead on my feet when I noticed Edward before Aaron's office. He stuck his ears to the door which was slightly opened and had this faraway look in his cunning eyes. What is he doing?
I gasped and he bolted away from the door, giving me a stern look before leaving.
It can't be…..I didn't want to believe he was eavesdropping on his best friend. It can't be.
I moved my feet to Aaron's door to talk to him but he was on the phone and he looked devastated. I made up my mind to do the talking later and I was about to close his door properly when I heard him say
"Six month?….. are you certain it isn't more than six months?... I know but I still have a lot to do…."
I closed his door, cutting him off but his worried voice followed me as I went towards the elevator . What is happening in six months?
I tried to forget Aaron's worried voice but I couldn't and I pondered on it. I didn't notice Carter entering the elevator due to that and I only did when he talked.
"You look hot when you are trying to figure something out Crystal."
Carter said. He had caged me between his chest and the elevator wall. His face was dangerously close to mine and my gaze instantly dropped to his plump lips that threatened to meet my dry ones.
"I should punish you for the stunt you pulled in the boardroom Crystal."
He leaned in closer.
