Chapter 21 - On the war

How far the distance between an Exor from an Exor candidate? Whether it was Kroko, or the pig-man I fought at the start, I didn't feel a significant difference in strength. I don't feel the so-called divine power. The horse man, the winged man and the mysterious man, who led our group, showed something different. They could kill so many people in the blink of an eye.

It made me think back that Exor's level was completely different from ordinary humans. I have to admit that Exor's abilities were on a different level. In the war that this time broke out, there were about 12 Exors including the three who led us, from the invading camp. While the stronghold of the fort seems to have 6 Exors.

"Exor turned out to be very strong."

"Of course they are strong, they are not just ordinary Exors, they have already entered the early stage of devout follower level. Their strength is several times stronger than Holy Servant level Exors," Derold muttered back.

"Wait! You said they were Devout Followers level Exor, then how strong is Holy Servant level Exor, are you a Holy Servant level Exor?"

Derold suddenly laughed, "You are so funny, it seems you are quite layman on this matter. Me, you, Kroko, and fighters in the same league as us are at the lowest level in this barrier, the strongest are only Exor Candidate level 1. There are about five levels of Exor candidate, the higher the level the stronger the physical strength. At the Candidate level, strength is the only thing that growth.

Most of the other half beasts within the barrier were at the Holy Servant rank. That's why you better be careful. Don't get into the fight of half-beasts, Holy Servant level."

Hearing Derold's words, I remember Leon saying that most half beasts were at the Holy Servant level, how could I forget such important information. I was too arrogant to equate the pig man and Kroko with the other half beasts.

While I was chatting with Derold, war finally broke out after one of our side's Devout Follower-level Exor launched an attack on the fortress. By the way, everyone who was at the Holy Servant level or lower like myself immediately leaves ample space for Devout Follower-level Exor to fight.

As promised, I, Kroko and Derold formed a triangular formation before charging towards the enemy. Kroko was in the front to be the first shield of the enemy's attack on this group.

Derold, the rhinoceros man was behind the right, he was in charge of providing a powerful impromptu attack to knock out the enemy. Lastly, I'm behind the left, I'm in charge of quickly injuring the opponent's vital area while the opponent was busy fighting Kroko and Derold.

The number of invaders was greater than the number to defend the fortress, so this situation of being superior in numbers was advantageous for our group formation, because with more numbers the chances of us being attacked while focusing on one target are very small.

"Get ready, our first target is the big bear!" Derold commanded us.

"Kroko understands."

"Let's attack."

The bearman realized that we had targeted him, he valiantly jumped at us and launched a hard punch. Kroko endured the blow with his arms crossed. Derold immediately ran and crashed into the bearman's stomach, at that time Kroko took advantage of the situation to lock the bearman's movement.

I took advantage of the situation to jump onto the bearman's shoulder, and then plunged my hand into his neck. Fortunately, in contrast to Kroko, this bearman's neck is relatively soft, so I could stab him. The bear-man roared in pain, Kroko failed to hold it in anymore. He swung his arms intently to catch me. Good thing I jumped down faster, so the bearman could only catch air.

"He won't be able to survive, let's attack the others."

"You're right, we shouldn't procrastinate too long."

Although he was not dead yet, but it was certain that he was already dying. That's why we decided to immediately look for other targets. I also looked at the surroundings, as expected, the raid group had an absolute numerical advantage, so individual victories gave the raid group the upper hand.

But just as I thought that the war was about to end, a group of birdmen flew out from inside the fort. I widened my eyes when all the birdmen were holding rifles. Damn it! I once again forgot that they were once human. Of course, they know that some types of gun were still effective, especially on Exor candidates like me who were not yet fully gun-resistant.

Without waiting for long, the bird man showered the battlefield with bullets. I could see the difference between Exor candidates and Holy Servant-level Exors clearly this time. The Holy Servant level Exors ignored the shot, every single bullet couldn't penetrate their skin. Meanwhile, Exor candidates or God Children could be killed easily by these bullets.

"Damn it! This is very painful!"

"Give me protection, Kroko!"

"Ahh, don't hide under me, you damn human!"

I used Kroko's massive body to become a protective wall against those shots. Kroko's strong skin actually can't ward off bullets completely. But at least Kroko's skin keeps the bullet from inflicting deep wounds on Kroko. Meanwhile, Derold was injured much more badly, his skin wasn't as thick as Kroko's while his body was too big to be able to hide or dodge safely.

I have to do something. At that moment, I felt I really had to do something, even though this war wasn't really related to me. I took out a large sword from the clutches of the half beast corpse. I approached Kroko who was still complaining about his wound. Meanwhile, Derold was already covered in blood, however, I could still feel his breath.

"Kroko threw me at the bird man."

Kroko who heard it was surprised, he looked at me in surprise and said, "After I throw a human like you will only become an easy target."

"Just do it."

"If you want to die, fine."

Kroko stood up and put his hands together, I waited for the right moment for a few seconds. Then, when one of the birdmen caught his guard, I jumped onto Kroko's hands. Kroko with all his might threw me into the sky.

When the bird man that I was targeting was caught off guard, I immediately swung my sword and cut off its head. But the next second, a bullet flew at high speed towards my heart. Slowly I felt time slow down, I then blocked the bullet with the blade of my sword. The blade of the sword cracked from the impact of the bullet.

I managed to descend safely, I then snatched the long-barreled gun from the corpse of the birdman I killed. After that, I jumped under Kroko one more time because some birdmen were after me. With one shot, I killed another bird man. I felt my strength grow drastically.
