Chapter 39 - Trapped

I woke to a slithering sound, like a snake on rock. My head hurt and my stomach was in knots with hunger. I peeled my eyes open to see a black snake right outside my cell, which happened to be mostly rock. I groaned.

Pulling my hands up, I see manacles as I wipe my hair of my face, then see the same around my ankles. They were also black. They were connected to a chain that disappeared into the wall to my left.

The snake turned as I sat up, wincing as my head felt like a train wreck. It's glowing red eyes locked onto mine. "About time, Human. Delacroix has been waiting."

It began to slither away, but I said quickly, "Wait!" It stopped and turned to me. "Can I at least know where I am?"

"Where you were before we knocked you out."
