Chapter 24
Opal was sitting comfortably looking out of the window. When she was younger her parents took her a few times to other places but it was a long time ago and her recollection of that time seemed blurry. For Opal this was like her first trip ever. She was excited and curious. To be honest she was anxious too. This will be a new place and nobody knows her there.
"Uncle, what's the Alpha of the Silver Pack like?"
Arien glanced at her and smiled.
"Don't worry, he is a really nice guy. You will like him." - He was tying to hush her worries . "You will see that Barwick is a totally different place than Grayshill."
And it was. Grayshill in comparison to Barwick was rather small. They were going along the city's streets for over half an hour and they hadn't reached the center yet. There were many shops here as well as some tall buildings. It will definitely be easier to find a job here. The city looked inviting and green. It was full of trees and nicely arranged flower – beds. It will be nice to go for a stroll among these trees. Opal spent most of her life literally in the woods. It might be hard to adjust to new circumstances. Arien stopped the car in front of a tall building. The modern construction was made of glass and had ten floors.
"Our apartment is at the top of this building. - he pointed in the direction of the block. There is underground parking here and that's where we are heading now."
From the parking lot they took a lift and went straight to the top floor. The lift's door opened and they went out. There was only one door at the end of this corridor and Arien went straight for that door. He placed his finger on a panel and the door opened with a hushed hiss. In her entire life opal has never seen anything like that. The apartment was huge. The right wall was made of glass and gave a splendid view of Barwick, on the left there were three sofas with a coffee table in the middle. Above there was a long crystal chandelier hanging from the high ceiling. On the left there was a black kitchen with an island and stairs leading up. It was an apartment with a mezzanine and upstairs she could see some bookshelves with a desk and three other doors.
Opal was flabbergasted and speechless. Comparing their living conditions was pointless. No wonder he refused to stay at her home. Anyone who was used to living in such conditions would feel suffocated in her former place. Opal looked at Arien who was watching her carefully all the time with a little smile wandering between his eyes and lips.
"You are filthy rich." She stated.
"Well let's say I have financial means to live comfortably." Arien admitted.
"I felt really bad after spending so much of your money on clothes, but now I regret not spending more." She spewed through her clenched teeth.
Arien was laughing out loud. That sounded nice.
"Opal that card is yours, you will always have enough financial means for any of your pleasures." Arien touched her cheek and placed a stray lock of hair behind her ear.
"Hmm, uncle, do you live here alone?" She felt kind of uneasy but she had to be sure.
"Yes." He admitted shortly.
"You are young, rich and handsome. Isn't any Omega going to hate me because I'm in a way?`` She raised her eyes at him and looked into those gray steel like irises.
"No worries, I'm single but since you asked I allow no Alpha to stay overnight here in our apartment. If you want to meet with someone I need to know who and that person needs my blessing to go out with my niece." His voice was strict.
"Yes sir" Opal saluted.
"Your room is upstairs, I'll take your luggage."
They went upstairs and Arien led her to the second room.
"The first door is for a small guest room, this one is yours and the last one is mine." - Arien opened the door and let her in, leaving her suitcase on the floor next to the bed.
"I'm sure you want to rest a bit. I'll see you at six. I'll take you out for dinner."
The first thing Opal did was enter the bathroom with a shower in the corner and a big bath next to the window overlooking a park.
Opal was standing under the shower and enjoying the warm water falling down her body. It was perfect. Showering, drying her hair and putting on makeup everything was so easy in this clean, elegant and modern bathroom. She has chosen a fashionable tight black dress with a pretty deep V neckline. She looked and felt good, actually she felt sexy. Shortly before six she went down stairs smiling at her uncle who looked a little bit taken aback.
"I'm ready." She announced.
"I can see that – he frowned – You look very cheap in that dress, it shows too much and it's way too short. Change it please."
Opal felt very awkward. She wanted to look good on her first dinner out in a new city. She bit her lip and lowered her gaze.
"Well I guess I have to learn how to dress properly in a city like this, I thought I looked well. I didn't want to embarrass you."
Arien sighted and rubbed the bridge of his nose.
"Maybe I overreacted, I'll buy you some elegant dresses tomorrow. As for today, let's go as you are."
Opal's self confidence was down in the gutter. She sheepishly followed her uncle who handed her a jacket.
The restaurant Arien had chosen was really elegant but Opal couldn't feel the former excitement. She was pulling at her dress nervously.
They were greeted by a middle aged waitress.
"Mr. Sullivan, your table is ready."
"A small change, I want a private room." Opal's cheeks were burning her from shame at hearing Arien's request.
"Of course sir. I'll show you and your companion to one."
Arien took Opal's arm and led her after the waitress. They walked past a few tables when someone stopped Arien.
"Good to see you back Alpha, things were getting stressful recently." He was a well built man in his thirties with short brown curly hair. He was smiling widely and then took notice of Opal.
"You are not alone today, I hope you will introduce me to your company." His eyes slid over Opal's body and Arien tightened his grip on her.
"It's my niece Opal. Opal this is my Beta. Simon."
"Nice to meet you sir." Opal answered, smiling a little.
"You too. I must say I'm enchanted." He was looking straight in her eyes.
"Don't try anything funny. Opal is with me." Uncle's voice was resolute leaving no room for any further remarks.
"Wouldn't dare, Alpha." He raised his hands as if he was giving up and backed off still smiling.
Arien moved and Opal went along with him.
"Are you the Silver Pack's Alpha?" She asked.
"Yes." Was her uncle's short answer.
