Chapter 31 - SO THAT MAN ACTUALLY EXISTS?

Raine blinked a few times, she could feel countless emotions swirling in her head at the same time. It took her exactly ten seconds for his words to register in her head.

"Did... did... did you just say my fa-father? You know my father? What happened to him? Where is he? Is he... is he still alive?"

Her chest heaved up and down slightly as her words came out in an incoherent order.

Her father had died when she was young but she didn't know when he died, what killed him, or even how he looked.

She had no memory of her father, she didn't even know if he was still alive or not but not hearing anything about him from her mother, she concluded that he had probably died when she was younger but that thought alone couldn't hinder the curiosity bubbling inside her, rather she was more determined to know more about her father.

The issue of her father was like a forbidden topic to her mother and that had only heightened her curiosity.

Why was her mother so desperate of keeping every information about her father from her? Why couldn't she find a friend or even a relative of her father? His sudden disappearance and non-existence in her life made her wonder if she even had a father but that thought was impossible, right?

But hearing Jedrek mention her father, she felt overwhelmed with undescribable emotions. So that man actually exists?

Seeing her expression, Jedrek clenched his fists tightly. If he knew that the mention of her father would make her this worried then he wouldn't have brought it up. He sighed deeply to calm himself down and then raised his hand to gently pat her head.

"Calm down Blondie. You'll know more about your father soon but not now, ok?" he assured her as usual with a calm and soothing tone and Raine nodded in understanding but that didn't stop her head from spinning with different thoughts.

Jedrek smiled softly at her. If there was one thing he admired about her then it was her calm and understanding nature. He kept a lot of things from her, leading her to a point with no direction but yet she still understood the fact that she couldn't probe her head further.

What was the reason for her calmness? Was she already informed about all the turn of events or was she that desperate to get her old life back that she was more willing to stay calm and do as she was told?

He gave her a final yet silent glance before he slowly drove the car out of the parking lot.

Moments later, they arrived at a small twenty-four hours supermarket not too far from the dessert shop and he parked the car before accompanying Raine to shop for some daily necessities.

But as Raine continued shopping, Jedrek noticed that she was dazed. Her movements were slower and she kept spacing out every minute.

Jedrek stared at her actions silently and he could only blame himself for putting her in this condition and so he resulted in helping her to shop.

As Jedrek was picking out the stuffs that she might need, Raine almost slipped due to her mind wandering from one thought to the other but Jedrek firmly caught her in his strong grip. Worrying that she might fall again, he didn't release his grip after catching her but instead he held her firmly as he continued shopping.

While firmly holding her waist, he kept picking up the things he thinks she might need in a cart beside them but since he was inexperienced in shopping, he picked more than what was required, and in no time the shopping cart became full to the brim.

His inexperience was clearly evident in the way he kept asking Raine about what she needed. He would pick up an item and softly ask Raine if she needed it, if Raine shook her head then he would drop it back and move to another item but if Raine nodded her head in affirmation he would pick ten of them and place them in a cart. Raine was just too dazed and unfocused to notice the funny act he was displaying.

But this wasn't the case for the few female working staff and shoppers in the supermarket.

It was quite rare for them to see a man accompany a woman for shopping let alone help her to do the shopping instead.

The view of Jedrek carefully pushing the shopping cart with one hand and firmly holding Raine with the other while asking her if she needed anything was a rare sight to behold indeed.

His actions towards her were gentle and carefree as if he didn't mind doing it for eternity. This alone made the ladies around them sigh and cast envious gazes towards Raine.
