Chapter 34 - DID YOU DRINK HER BLOOD?

Late at night, the moon was high up in the sky casting faint lights which created mystic shadows around the whole area. The whole place was enshrouded in a somewhat suffocating darkness but the person inside didn't mind at all rather, he leisurely leaned his back on the chair, taking faint sips from his coffee.

Skye stared up at the full moon through the slightly opened window and his expression glimmered softly with impatience roughly plastered across his face.

Without saying a word, he dropped the coffee mug on his hand on the table beside him as he heard faint footsteps approaching from the living room and the corner of his lips tugged up in a faint smirk.

"They're finally back," he muttered to himself and then picked up the coffee mug again to take a sip out of it.

After the whole fit during dinner, he patiently waited for Jedrek and Raine to come back. Due to boredom, he had resulted to playing chess by himself, drinking red wine, and when he felt that his eyelids were probably about to betray him, he then resulted to drinking coffee.

Despite all this, he didn't expect that his brother would take too long to get back. Who would have thought that his brother would spend such a long time trying to pacify a little girl?

He let out a short but not too audible chuckle when he imagined Jedrek running around and trying to fulfill Raine's wishes.

As the approaching footsteps became louder, he gently put down the coffee mug and stood up.

"Brother Jed, where..."

His words were immediately swallowed by shock when he was met with the sight of Jedrek carrying a sleeping Raine in his arms bridal style.

His dropped jaw almost touched the floor. When last has he seen his elder brother be this gentle? Well, he had never thought that he would live to see such a day in his lifetime.

As Jedrek came closer to him, he finally forced back his shock and managed to mutter still with a panic-stricken face.

"Bloody hell! Brother Jed, did you get her drunk?"

He stared with widened eyes at his brother who was now standing in front of him with an unreadable expression and then his gaze finally fell on Raine who was snuggled up in his brother's chest as if trying to seek warmth.

When Jedrek had arrived in the afternoon, he had found them in the same position with Raine deep in slumber still snuggled up in his arms. The girl had slept for hours after that and hadn't woken up till evening. In just a span of a few hours and now she was asleep again? His question seemed logical to him as Raine wouldn't be asleep again except she was drugged or maybe Jedrek caused her to sleep...

At Skye's question, Jedrek threw a deadly gaze as his reply and ordered in a cold and threatening tone, "Get the shopping bags from the car."

He then continued carrying Raine towards the stairs leaving Skye with an unanswered question.

Skye had no other option than to nod dazedly at Jedrek's request.

'So they went shopping? Good job, cute sister Raine. What other ways to tire a man than taking him for a long and boring trip to the shopping mall? Serves him right for scolding you...' he thought inwardly and then proceeded to the car to carry the shopping bags in.

It was late at night and almost all the maids around were probably asleep which left only him for the task.

He sighed deeply in exhaustion, if he had known that he would not only be fed with dog food but also had to work for it then he wouldn't have bothered himself to stay up late just to wait for Jedrek but now, he could only silently curse his luck and carry out the task which his brother had instructed him to do.

Jedrek carefully carried Raine to their bedroom and gently placed her on the couch. The sheets were changed and clean and he knew that if he placed her there and then she wakes up to find out that she was on the bed without cleaning up then he definitely be the one to be blamed for it.

He carefully adjusted her sleeping position on the couch and then he continued staring at her. Her breathing was steady and he could notice that she was such a deep sleeper. She totally forgets all her worries and everything around her once she succumbs to dreamland.

He then contemplated for a while if he should wake her to wash up but then when he remembered Skye, he decided to handle him first before waking Raine.

He immediately got up and walked to the door and as soon as he opened it, he found Skye standing in front of the door with an aggrieved look on his face as if he was a child who had just been wronged.

There were multiple shopping bags in one hand and his other hand was outstretched towards the door, obviously about to open it.

Jedrek motioned for Skye to quietly drop the bags in the closet and Skye nodded in understanding.

As soon as he took his steps into the room, he tilted his head to the bed but didn't find Raine there. His brows creased. The room was dark and the only light illuminating the room softly was from the pale moon but he didn't have to search much before he found Raine sleeping comfortably on the couch and his eyes narrowed.

He hesitated for a while and then concluded on dropping the shopping bags first before he walked out to meet Jedrek outside the room, patiently waiting for him.

His back was leaning against the wall with a slanted posture but his expression remained as stoic as ever.

Skye stood in his place, still without saying a word and trying to study his brother's expression and when he looked closely he could detect a faint streak of helplessness and weakness in his eyes.

On seeing his brother's expression, his face turned deathly pale as only one thought surfaced in his mind.

"Brother Jed did you... did you drink her blood?"
