Chapter 4 - Unwilling Fool

Unkown Tomb, Adventuer Knight POV

While my party and I were going down the staircase of this long-forgotten tomb, the only thing I could hear behind me was loud groaning.

"Oh come on! Were already this deep in this catacomb, what could one more flight of stairs be so bad?" I said in an angered tone.

Then the man with sill green robes with a matching pointed hat stepped forward. He carried a large tree root as a staff, and with that staff, he slammed the end of it to the ground and said in a tired and angered tone.

"PLEASE SIR KNIGHT! We have been walking downstairs and empty rooms for hours now and we found NOTHING! At least let us rest here!"

Then the other member of our party, a skinny woman wearing dark letter amour stepped forward. She had a quiver of arrows and a bow on her back. She concernedly said.

"Gerald, I mean sir knight" while our wizard friend is certainly exaggerating how tired he is. He-"

"EXAGGERATED! EXAGGERATED!" The wizard rudely said. In an, even more, angered tone than last time.

The woman in an annoyed tone loud "ahem" to clear her throat. "He is right in the fact that we should probably take a break."

"Oh please," I said. "The wizard is just mad this is the most real exercise he has ever gotten in years. We will just go down a few more flights of stairs and be done with this place. "

Before we begin moving again, whether the wizard liked it or not, I took off my helmet. Because even though I hate to admit it, I was beginning to sweat from walking so much. And having to deal with this iron bucket over my head any longer down here would cause me to suffocate.

"SEE YOUR TIRED TOO!" The wizard yelled while pointing at me.

"SHUT IT!" I angrily yelled. "Just, just, follow me for a bit longer."

When I finished talking I carried my helmet in my left hand and continued to venture down the staircase. I heard a bit of grumbling from the wizard, then after a bit, I listened to his footsteps following mine.

After a few minutes of walking down the stairs, nothing really happened. It felt a bit colder, but nothing else noteworthy.

We kept on going down for a bit, the wizard thankfully hasn't said anything else since our back and forth from earlier. However, I can swear this place is getting even colder.

After a brief walk down the stairs, we stopped. We stopped because we saw the last remaining steps covered by ice.

I looked at the wizard, I pointed two fingers at my eyes and then one finger at the last of the steps to the new room. This was our signal for the wizard to check for danger. He silently nodded, he then firmly grasped his staff and closed his eyes.

When he opened his eyes again, it was fully covered by a bright green glow. The magic he uses allows us to get a sense of anything hostile or dangerous around us. After a few seconds, his eyes returned to their normal color, "It appears safe." He calmly stated. "Now let's hurry up and check on it so we can leave this dread place!"

The wizard pushed past me and into the room. I gave a quick sigh and followed him, and the lady archer followed as well.

What I saw next was beyond reason! This entire room was covered in ice!

From the walls to the floor and even the ceiling! Every nook and cranny was covered in ice.

The boiling heat and sweat from everyone walking down so many stairs was now replaced with an icy freeze! It was rather welcoming to finally feel another temperature than the same one as the other rooms above us.

However, are brief sense of enjoyment was stopped when we saw the main interest of the room.

A large, jagged blue stone sat at the far middle of the room. It had not one speckle of ice covering it. But that's not what made this stone special.

It was the sword that was plunged within the top of the stone! The sword had a dark metal lower body, with a gem that looked similar to an eye resting in the crossguard. The eye had a dark blue silt that went from the top to the middle of the eye, and it was surrounded by light blue.

"Wizard," I quietly ask, "Do you sense anything from the sword?"

"I sense a fair amount of magical energy coming from the blade. Yet no hostile intent from or even around the blade!"

"Good!" I happily replied, "At least when we leave this tomb with something!"

"Wait a minute sir knight." The lady archer said while the pauldron of my armor. "Perhaps the wizard should check again? We have no idea what would happen if we take that sword."

We then both looked at the wizard for an answer.

He angrily puffed and said, "It is fine, we already checked it remember? Besides I am too tired to use any more high-tier magic. Just take the stupid sword so we may leave."

I raised my shoulders to the archer and then gave her my helmet and went over to the sword. I would most likely need two hands for this and I refuse to put that uncomfortable helmet back on.

I went over to the sword and placed my hands on the grip. I then pulled on the sword as hard as I could!

I did this for several minutes, yet the sword did not move. I looked tiredly at the wizard, hoping he could give me an answer.

He sighed and said in a disappointed tone, "It is an enchanted blade, not some stick with metal attached to it. You probably need to send your willpower through it."

I look confusedly at the wizard, I had no idea how to send will power.

The wizard gave another disappointed sigh, "The same thing I use my magic for. Just will the sword to be yours and it will be fine."

I nodded and strengthen my grip on the sword and pulled again. This time, however, I thought 'This sword shall be mine, I will be its new master, I command you to be mine!'

And like that, the sword easily came out. And what power did I hold! It felt like it was made form me!

I swung it a bit and it felt as natural as moving an arm. I thought 'I am this swords mast-' I then violently interrupted myself with a loud violent scream.

My grip on the sword tightened, and I collapsed to my knees. I felt pain everywhere on my body, it was like thousands of arrows were hitting me from all sides. Yet when I saw my body, it was perfectly fine.

Yet the pain was so unbearable I became to violently cry. The water in my eyes made it so hard to see anything.

I couldn't stand this pain, I had to shut off my mind, be knocked out, or do just anything to stop this pain even for a second.

Then a voice said in my head 'Just close your eyes.' It was in a neutral tone. Since it was my only option I did so.

Then miraculously, limb by limb the pain was suddenly gone! I tried to open my to see what happened, yet they wouldn't open.

I couldn't feel my eyeballs or any part of my body! It was there, yet I had no control over it. I tried to do anything yet nothing happened. The only thing I could feel was, tired.

Maybe just for a bit, I could rest, then figure out how to fix my body. Yes, just a bit of rest.. just turn my mind off for a.... bit.

Rest...

Rest...
